Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 243: Ominous Show
To her side was her younger twin sister with wide round eyes filled with anticipation and excitement. Looking at her felt like a breath of fresh air and suddenly the warm weather didn’t seem to bother me as much. Although the two sisters looked extremely identical and were dressed very similarly, I could tell right away which one of them was Dahlia.
“Thank you for gathering here today. It is an honor for our family to host this party for all of you. To thank your precious time, I figured that my son could put on a little show to provide some entertainment to all of you. Your time is undoubtedly precious and I would like to make sure that this party is well worth your time. Of course, I am eternally thankful for your continuous support of our various family businesses,” my father announced to the crowd in his booming loud voice.
I tried to remain calm as I looked straight ahead into the crowd. I had no idea what my father had in mind but it was clear that he didn’t care what I thought because he never told me about this beforehand. Clearly, it had not slipped his mind because it seemed like just another test of both my patience and my abilities.
“Anthony will show you a little show in a horse riding competition!” my father declared proudly before placing a hand on my shoulder
I tried my best to smile naturally and not show any signs of my nervousness. I knew how to ride a horse because I was made to study horse riding right alongside Anthony. However, that didn’t mean that I had the confidence to put on a show in front of such a large crowd when I was never told about it beforehand.
“I’ll give you some time to get changed. In the meantime, I will entertain the guests,” my father whispered to me before turning to smile at the people standing in the crowd again.
My father’s announcement regarding the upcoming entertainment must have pleased everyone because everyone started applauding. I glared at my father before turning away and quickly making my way back into the mansion where I was sure that my riding clothes and gears were already prepared.
I wasn’t given much time to prepare for anything except for changing into the appropriate riding gear. One of my father’s guards led me to the stables where the horses were kept. By the time that I arrived my father was already there waiting for me along with my riding instructor. I should have realized when I found out about the venue that something like this might come up. After all, this place was the estate where the Vulkan family members would come to enjoy horseriding.
“You should have told me this beforehand...” I complained outright to my father.
“I don’t want to hear any complaints from you. Just go out there and do your job right,” he replied coldly without looking my way.
A sudden thought flashed into my head that perhaps my father had chosen me to take Anthony’s place because he wasn’t quite sure if Anthony could put on the show that he wanted. The fact that it had rained pretty much all day also meant that the grassy ground had gotten slippery and muddy, which made it tricky and dangerous for horse riding. Although Anthony is smart and has a way with dealing and pleasing people, when it comes to athletic abilities, I clearly outshone him. Horse riding was one of them. I smirked while thinking to myself that this was all too convenient for our father. He could simply pick the son that was better suited for each occasion to display to society. I could feel anger boiling up inside of me just at the thought of Anhony and I being used as mere tools.
“Use this horse,” my father instructed as he came to stand in front of one of the horses.
I felt my entire face turned cold when my eyes landed on the horse that my father had chosen for me to ride.
“This is not my horse. This is Anthony’s horse,” I pointed out as if my father didn’t already know that all too well.
“You’re Anthony right now, so of course, you’ll be riding his horse,” my father replied as if it was supposed to be obvious.
I could already sense the horse’s nervousness although I hadn’t yet approached it. Although I did not have my own horse, Anthony had a horse dedicated to him. Whether it was for better or for worse, that horse was extremely loyal and would only let Anthony ride him. I quickly realized that although I could fool everyone else that I was Anthony, I wasn’t able to fool the horse into thinking that I was its master.
“I can’t ride this horse. This horse will only allowed Anthony to ride it,”. I stated factually.
“You will ride this horse. Come out quickly, everyone is waiting for you,” my father replied coldly before turning on his heels and quickly walking away out of the stables.
I could sense the discomfort of the riding instructor and knew that he understood the problem that I had just described to my father. That didn’t mean that the poor man could step in and overturn my father’s decision.
“Let’s just give it a try. You’re a strong rider, I’m sure that it’s going to be okay. If you feel that it’s too much just stop the horse and get off. The ground is probably slippery and muddy in places, but if you try to avoid the puddles and muddy areas, you should be fine...” the instructor tried to offer me words of encouragement but I could tell from the look on his face that he also thought that this was a poor idea.
“I’ll be fine,” I told him emotionlessly.
The horse wasn’t going to be pleased and it wasn’t going to be easy. However, I have no intentions of dying on that day.
