Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 224: Winning Him Back
**A few weeks later**
It seemed like my luck had not completely run out because Desmond and I somehow managed to survive the day despite Desmond’s bold move to thwart Bradon. Surprisingly, Bradon didn’t say a word as he let Desmond leave and before I could say anything to him in a desperate attempt to heal the situation, Bradon had already stalked off.
For a few days after that, it became impossible for me to catch Bradon. I knew that he was mad but does he have to be this angry?
“He’s still angry, isn’t he...” I murmured to myself but it wasn’t really a question.
“Maybe the master is just busy...” Bella said as she tried her best to smile.
“I should apologize...” I muttered to myself.
“That’s not a bad idea,” Bella quickly agreed.
Despite her words of encouragement, I was not at all optimistic because I highly doubted that my simple words of apology would cut it. Bradon had been clearly ignoring and avoiding me and I had already started to lose count of how many times he seemed to tune out and disconnected himself from me whenever we got into an argument. I had no idea why he had to be so mad even when he already negotiated so much from the prince just so that we could have a conversation in private.
“This is so unfair...” I complained darkly.
Although I thought that it was unfair how I had to be the one to put in all the hard work for us to make up every single time, I also acknowledged that sitting around and waiting and praying for him to come around wasn’t going to work. On top of that, I didn’t know how much time I truly had on my hands before I had to get back to Desmond regarding my decision.
How am I supposed to know when the king is going to die?
“Where are you going, Diana?” Bella asked after I suddenly stood up from my seat.
“I’m going to find Jenna...” I replied without looking back.
I could hear her footsteps as she quickly followed after me. It didn’t take me long to find Jenna actively going about her job of supervising a few maids with their cleaning duties in the large living room. She smiled and greeted me the moment that she spotted me.
“I need to talk to you for a bit. I can see that you’re busy right now, though...” I said.
“We can talk now. I’m just about done here,” she replied with a smile.
I didn’t think that she was anywhere near done and that made me feel thankful that she was willing to talk to me. Jenna must have realized already that I needed some advice from her. After waving the maids off, Jenna turned her full attention to me.
“Why don’t we sit down first?” I suggested.
“Sure...” Jenna replied after a moment of hesitation.
“It’s Bradon...” I started by diving right to the route of my concern.
“Right...” Jenna whispered as if she had expected this all along.
“He’s probably out of this world angry about...you know...the prince and everything that happened that day,” I said.
“I can only imagine,” she replied before trying to offer me a smile.
I hoped that Bradon’s cold attitude and burning anger had not caused trouble for Jenna and everyone else in the mansion but I doubt that anyone could escape the impact of his mood swings. That made me feel slightly guilty and gave me even more motivation to improve Bradon’s mood.
“Right. That’s why I’m here to ask for your advice. You know, is there anything that you think I should do to help improve his mood?” I asked enthusiastically.
Jenna suddenly had an astonished expression on her face as her eyes widened and she raised her eyebrows so high that her forehead creased into deep lines.
“Well, I’m not so sure...” she murmured.
“That can’t be true. You’re like his second mother or something. Surely, you know something that could help improve his mood, right?” I asked without willing to back down.
“Well, perhaps...” she murmured as her eyes darted around nervously.
“Don’t worry, Jenna. You don’t have to worry whether or not it’ll work. Just tell me everything that you can think of and I’ll try my best to do everything right,” I said as I placed a hand flat on my chest.
I had to say that I sounded more confident than I actually felt. Jenna still looked troubled as if I had asked for the impossible. Since I had run out of ideas of my own, I felt that relying on someone who knew Bradon much better than myself just might do the trick.
“Well, I’m not sure if it will work but I can tell you a few things that might be worth trying,” Jenna said softly.
“Great. Let me hear it!” I cried out excitedly.
“Umm...first of all, why don’t you try apologizing to him? I’m sure that if you apologize to him directly and earnestly, Master Bradon will forgive you. As long as you understand what you’ve done wrong, he should be reasonable enough and forgive you,” Jenna advised.
What if I didn’t think that what I did was necessarily wrong?
“I’ll apologize to him eventually, I guess. We definitely need to talk properly but I think he’s been avoiding me. What about we park this idea for now and move on to your other suggestions?” I suggested.
“Right...then what about...” Jenna continued telling me about another idea.
...
Since the first thing that Jenna suggested seemed too difficult to do without laying the right groundwork first, I decided to work on her other suggestions before moving on to the final move of directly talking things out with Bradon. To be honest, I thought that most of Jenna’s suggestions sounded like things that young children would like and I found it hard to believe that Bradon would appreciate things like that.
However, Jenna seemed so confident about her suggestions and it wasn’t like I had any better ideas. Bradon’s habit of returning back home late from work had returned and there were days when I had no idea whether he even came back home.
