Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 215: Nightly Entertainment
I had no idea why he felt that it was necessary to force my hand to that extent. What he did reminded me of why I hated royalty so much. Acting arrogant and doing whatever they pleased because they had the luck to be born into the royal family. Although they haven’t done anything to deserve such praise, they were comfortable living off the wealth and goodwill that their ancestors left behind. I stared silently at the very handsome man standing in front of me as I wondered just how spoilt and rotten he was.
An exasperated sigh left my lips when I realized that it didn’t matter whether I liked the royal family or not because it wasn’t going to change the fact that Prince Desmond is the prince of this country. Whatever options I chose would favor him because naturally that was how the options had been designed.
“Before I make my decision. I have a few questions for Your Highness,” I said.
“Ask away,” he replied without pausing to think.
“Why would Your Highness want to be involved in a scandal and even go so far as to pull me into it as well?” I asked without any further explanation.
I could already feel that the prince was a very calculating person and that meant that he should know exactly what I was asking.
“For a royal family member, an increase in publicity isn’t a bad thing at all,” he replied casually.
“Even if that publicity isn’t necessarily a positive one?” I asked in return.
“How can news of us potentially dating be negative?” he asked innocently.
Although I had no idea what the prince truly had planned, I now knew for certain that he wanted some sort of rumors to start that we were in a romantic relationship.
So troublesome...
“If I choose for us not to return to the party, what will we be doing instead?” I asked bluntly.
“You’ll spend time entertaining me as a birthday gift of sorts until I’m satisfied. Then, I’ll make sure that you are escorted home safely,” the prince replied as he seemed to ponder a few things in his mind.
“Are you going to ask me to sleep with you?” I asked with a straight face.
I couldn’t think of anything else that he would want from me as a form of entertainment that would stretch into the night. Given my age and the apparent change in my body and looks, it has become obvious that I have started to attract a great deal of attention from members of the opposite sex. The same applied to my sister, although she had her engagement to Anthony as a shield of sorts.
“Will you sleep with me, if that’s what I want?” he answered my question with one of his own.
I didn’t think that it was a bad question at all. If anything, it was worth thinking about. The fact that we were openly discussing this felt amusing in its own way but it also showed me that the prince seemed to be sincere and open with me.
“I’m not sure...” I replied truthfully.
“I won’t ask you to sleep with me. Just spend some time with me. That’s all I’m asking for...” he said with an affirmative nod of his head.
“I’ll be in your care, Your Highness,” I replied softly while wondering if I had made the right choice.
“Call me by my name. Call me Desmond,” the prince requested.
“That’s a little...” I murmured hesitantly.
“At least when we’re alone, please just call me by my name...” he said with a pleading hint to his tone.
“Prince Desmond...” I said.
“Half correct. Now cut out the prince part and it would be perfect,” he quickly corrected me.
“...Desmond,” I called his name softly.
It felt strange to be addressing the prince so informally like this even if I was purely doing it based on his request.
“Shall we go, Dahlia?” he said invitingly as he extended his arm for me to take it.
“Will you allow me to let my sister know about this?” I inquired.
“Of course. I’ll also have my butler formally inform your parents that I will be borrowing you for a short while,” the prince replied with a warm smile.
...
Shortly after, I found myself in the prince’s private living quarters. More surprisingly, the prince led me without any hesitation to his large and luxurious bedroom. I wondered how all the guests would react when they realized that the main figure of the event wouldn’t be returning. The prince’s wing of the palace was surprisingly quiet and peaceful. If there were any maids around, I didn’t not see one.
“Sit here,” the prince instructed as he gestured with his hand for me to sit down on a chair.
I did as I was told while maintaining my silence. The prince had not told me what exactly he wanted with me. Being along with him made me feel anxious and I felt very jumpy as if the option of getting up and running away from the prince was even an option to begin with. I closed my eyes and let out a soft sigh as the prince sat down on the chair on the opposite side of the table.
“Are you ok now?” he asked out of the blue.
“I’m sorry but I’m not sure what you’re referring to...” I replied blankly.
“Well...the problems that you have with your family, are they getting better?” he asked softly.
I couldn’t stop myself from raising my eyebrows at his unexpected words of concern. Although I should have appreciated the worry and care that he was showing for me, I ended up hating him slightly for it. My dislike wasn’t anything specially dedicated to the prince because I disliked anyone who showed pity for me because of my situation with my family. I also hated the fact that all my problems were publicized and blown out of proportion for everyone to enjoy as a source of gossip for entertainment. It was strange, but I didn’t like admitting that I was the problematic one.
