Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 167: All Night Long
I could tell that he would rather come along with me and the rest of the men but I felt like he would have a much more important role to play here.
“Watch over her and make sure that she stays out of trouble. Make sure she doesn’t do anything reckless,” I instructed sternly.
“Will this help make you focus on your work?” Zain asked as he stared directly at me.
“Of course. I’ll feel much better knowing that I can trust you to handle things here,” I replied honestly.
“What should I tell her?” Zain asked for further instructions.
“Tell her that I have some things to deal with and that she shouldn’t wait up for me,” I instructed.
I didn’t think that Dahlia would wait up for me and it would come as no surprise if she preferred to have me gone. Zain nodded his head once to show me that he understood.
...
**Dahlia’s point of view**
What time is it now?
Is it possible to tell how much time has passed from the movement of the stars in the sky?
I must have heard that from somewhere but I could no longer remember. Even if you could tell the passage of time from the stars’ movements, I couldn’t do it. The stars twinkled and shone so brightly in the dark night sky and I had already lost track of how long I had been staring up at them from the balcony. I heaved another long sigh and realized that I had already lost count of the number of times that I’ve sighed that night.
Where is the Great Bear and the Little Bear again?
All the stars just look the same to me and how they were arranged in the sky just looked random without any clear patterns that caught my attention at all. I let out another sigh when I realized that I should have paid closer attention to what Bradon was saying when he showed me the constellations. Although I told myself that it was better that he had left me alone, I couldn’t stop wondering where he had gone. Zain said he had matters to attend to but what were those matters and how could they be more important than our honeymoon?
After Zain left, I spent a few hours just tossing and turning in bed as sleep swiftly evaded me. I sat up in bed when I decided to give up entirely on the idea of going to sleep because it just seemed impossible. The two chairs placed on the balcony came in handy as I flopped down onto one of them. My legs had gotten tired and I felt so bored. It crossed my mind that instead of counting sheeps in my head, I could count the stars in the sky until I felt sleepy.
Where is Bradon? When is he going to come back?
The questions that repeated themselves inside my head distracted me from counting and made me have to start all over again after losing count. After this happened a couple of times, I decided to give up completely.
“Why am I waiting up for him?” I muttered to myself.
The soft sound of the howling night wind was the only response that I ever got.
...
When I woke up the next morning to the sound of someone banging on my door and yelling out my name. I felt so disoriented and my back ached quite badly. When I opened my eyes, I immediately found the reason why my body was in the state that it was in. After crawling back into bed, I must have slept in an awkward position which resulted in my aching joints and back.
“Lady Diana!” Zain’s voice called out to me again.
After looking around, a sinking feeling crept into my chest when I discovered that I was alone in the room. Morning had already arrived but Bradon had not returned. The bitter disappointment that I felt told me that I must have expected to see him when I woke up. He did tell me not to wait up for him but he didn’t say that he wouldn’t be back by morning.
“I’m going out,” I declared the moment that I opened the door.
As expected, Zain was standing right in front of my door. His face took on a look of unpleasant surprise at my sudden announcement.
“Where do you plan to go, My Lady?” He asked with a concerned look on his face.
“Wherever I want to. Bradon isn’t back so that means that we’re not going to be able to do anything as planned today, right? That means that I’m free to do as I please, right?” I demanded to know as I glowered at him.
For a moment, Zain didn’t seem to know how to react. I knew that it wasn’t his fault and that I was taking my anger out on him. There was so much injustice in my actions but the moment that I realized that I was angry with the fact that Bradon wasn’t back, I got even angrier. If he didn’t care about our honeymoon or the shared responsibilities that we had to fulfill together, then I couldn’t see why I had to care either.
“There’s got to be a bunch of fun activities to do on an island like this...” I said as I stared up into Zain’s face.
I wondered when he would move out of the way so that I could get out of the room. Zain had a conflicted look on his face but after a moment of struggling with his own thoughts, he stepped to the side to let me through.
“Do you want to come along?” I asked sarcastically.
“I will accompany you, My Lady,” he replied dutifully.
It was obvious enough since last night that Bradon had left Zain here to keep an eye on me. I was sure that everything that I did would be reported to Bradon. My mood only darkened when I thought of how he was openly keeping tabs on me.
