Chapter 149: Threat Elimination

I could tell that Diana thought that what she did was correct.

“She really got way ahead of herself. Asking me over and over about Anthony without even bothering to hide her interest in him. It grosses me out. He’s still my fiancé whether I like it or not so how can she say those things to me so blatantly?” Diana said before pulling her face into a look of disgust.

“I guess she did mention it a couple of times...” I murmured as I seemed to recall the many instances that that had happened.

I couldn’t side with Daphne, but I also knew that she was one of many girls who wished that they could end up marrying Anthony instead of Diana. Even though everyone knew that he was engaged, they all didn’t hesitate to give it their best shot in dating him with the hope that they might be able to change his mind. Little did they know that this matter was beyond just changing Anthony’s mind or making him fall in love. Even if Anthony wanted to marry a woman of his own choice, I doubted that it would be possible.

“I’ll never let her get close to him. If there’s someone that I’ll gladly give up Anthony to, it would be you and no one else,” Diana announced before beaming a smile at me.

“Don’t say something like that...” I replied after her words snapped me out of my own thoughts.

“Hmm? Are you sure that you don’t want him?” she asked teasingly.

“Stop joking about this,” I warned sternly.

“Alright...alright...” she replied with a smile that told me that she wasn’t taking me seriously.

As always, my sister could see right through me, and I didn’t know why I felt so surprised about it. Diana just laughed before pulling me into a tight hug. For the countless time, she told me softly that she loves me while stroking my hair.

...

Being alone with Bradon felt like I had escaped a tsunami to be greeted with an earthquake. It felt like I could hold my ground so much better against Daphne and her men compared to Bradon. He had not said a word to me since we exited the room, but I could tell that he was boiling with anger. I admitted to myself that I owed him an apology for breaking the agreement that we made and thanks for the fact that he came just in time to save me.

Now that we were alone, the arm that he had around my back moved to clutch tightly at my wrist. He was probably scared that I would leave his side again and I wasn’t in a position to complain since that was what I had just done. The air between us felt so filled with tension that it became suffocating. Just when I decided to get my apology off of my chest, Bradon pressed his phone to the side of his face.

“Bring my car,” he ordered before abruptly ending the call.

The party was already over as far as Bradon was concerned and I wasn’t at all against the idea of leaving the event early. Bradon was clearly not in the mood to converse with me but that only made me feel desperate to talk things out with him. I hated admitting to it, but I knew that I owed him a very good explanation of why I decided to part with him and what was really going on before he arrived to intervene.

Just thinking about how I would tell him the truth already felt so difficult and that was probably why people told sweet white lies all the time. It did occur to me that Bradon may not believe the real story behind what happened and that made me hesitate to correct any misunderstanding that he may have about what really happened.

Bradon literally yanked on my wrist before dragging me along after him. Although his strides were firm, I could tell that he wasn’t walking as fast as he usually did. A small smile came to my lips before I could fully understand why I was smiling in such a situation. I decided to keep quiet for the moment so that he wouldn’t suddenly turn back around and heave me up into his arms.

...

Bradon drove us back to his mansion. I should have realized sooner when he made that phone call that he wasn’t referring to the limousine that dropped us off at the venue. The car that was brought around was magically one of his cars and it was a sports car with only two seats and not much space inside. That meant that we spent the entire drive back to the mansion with no one besides each other as company while the atmosphere in the car was so stifling that I almost choked every time I tried to take a deep breath. The fact that Bradon did not say a word or spare a glance my way did not help at all.

He’s mad...but does he have to be this mad?

I got out of the car myself when we finally made it back to the mansion without waiting for him to help me out of the car. The night air never felt so oxygenated and refreshing like that before. I had used the time in the car to put the words that I wanted to say to Bradon together in what I thought was a neat and comprehensive package. I would properly apologize to him and then explain in summary what happened.

At least that was the plan that I had in mind...

Bradon was by my side and had his hold on my wrist again in no time at all. Just like before, he did not bother saying anything to me. I was more than aware of the various pairs of eyes looking at us as Bradon dragged me into the mansion after him. Instead of heading to my bedroom, Bradon dragged me into a room that resembled a small office located on the first floor of the mansion. The door closed firmly behind us before I heard the sound of the lock clicking.
