Substitute Wife for the Mafia King R18-Chapter 142: Guilty First Kiss
“Hmm...is that so?” Anthony replied while sounding extremely unconvinced.
I wished that I could come right out and tell him honestly that I wanted to see him in action but because I couldn’t quite tell him that, I decided to ask him something instead to change the direction of my conversation.
“How did you find me?” I asked curiously.
“I asked around for you and someone told me that you’d gone into the back garden...” he replied before grinning at me.
I could tell that he had also learnt from that moment on why I had gone to the back garden, and I couldn’t blame him for not being impressed.
“Does it happen very often?” he asked, and I knew that he was referring to those confessions.
“Yeah...too often...” I replied honestly before pressing my lips into a regrettable thin line.
“Diana...” Anthony said after a moment of pause.
It looked like he had something that he wanted to tell me but before he could say anything, the loud sound of thunder roaring in the distance disturbed us. The wind picked up as it howled all around us. Suddenly, the sky above us darkened as rain clouds quickly gathered up above.
“It’s going to rain...” I said as I looked up at the sky above.
When I opened the palm of my hand, I felt a raindrop falling right onto my hand. It had started drizzling but with the way that the wind was blowing so strongly, I knew that a storm was quickly approaching.
“Let’s go,” Anthony said as he pulled me up to my feet.
The rain drizzled and then it just outright poured down on us. I couldn’t believe how bad my luck could be to have it rain so suddenly like it did when it wasn’t even supposed to be rainy season. I was depressed for less than three seconds before I started laughing so carefreely as we started running for cover. The storm was upon us as the rain beat down from above until it was difficult to see very far ahead.
“It’s raining like crazy...” I mumbled.
We ended up taking shelter under a small bridge that was built to cross a small man-made stream that ran through a part of the park before connecting to the lake at the center of the park. I didn’t think that it was very late in the evening, but the storm did make it darker than usual. The stone under my feet felt slightly slippery but the bridge was wide enough to give us decent cover from the rain.
We sat on the rocks next to each other in silence as we listened to the sound of the rain beating down all around us. I cursed the rain silently in my head but when I realized that Anthony was still holding my hand, I thought that it wasn’t so bad that it was raining.
“Are you scared?” Anthony asked softly.
“I’m...fine...” I replied as my heart skipped a dangerous beat in my chest.
Our eyes met and I couldn’t look away. Although I couldn’t see it, I could feel Anthony interlacing his fingers with mine. It brought our hands so close to one another and it made my heart stir strangely in my chest. Just like our hands, I wanted to get even closer to him.
“I guess we’re stuck here for now...” I muttered softly as I looked away to hide my embarrassment.
I wondered if I was blushing and then I figured that I must have been. There were some lights in the park, so it wasn’t completely dark. Hopefully, it was dark enough to shield my face from his sights.
“I guess. This is turning out to be a very interesting date,” he said before letting out an amused chuckle.
“We’ve been gone for so long now. I bet they’re looking for us. Well, I guess no one will find us here...” I said softly while feeling a little relieved.
Although it was uncomfortable, I didn’t mind using the rain as a selfish and convenient excuse to spend more time alone with Anthony.
“I’ll find you...” Anthony said so softly that I wasn’t sure if I heard him correctly.
“...huh?” I made a soft questioning sound.
“If you get lost and scared, I’ll find you...” he said it like a promise.
Was he referring to how he found me earlier in the day?
It didn’t help that the rain was so loud. The way his blue intense eyes stared directly at me made my heart beat so fast and loud that the sound of my own heartbeat seemed to drown out the sound of the rain. I had no idea what he just said or what he was really saying but it didn’t seem to matter anymore. I saw his hand slowly approach my face, but I couldn’t shift my gaze away from his mesmerizing blue gaze. The warmth of his fingertips against my cheek made me realize just how cold my skin was.
Anthony cupped my cheek and suddenly my entire body felt so hot. I had never kissed anyone before, but I could instinctively tell that he was about to kiss me. My heart raced even faster, and my mind felt like it ceased to function. I just couldn’t think straight. Diana never told me about them sharing a kiss before, so I wasn’t sure if this was normal. It didn’t feel normal at all.
What if this is supposed to be their first kiss?
Anthony thinks that the girl he’s about to kiss is Diana, right?
My entire body stiffened at the thought. Suddenly, what we were about to do felt so wrong. I felt scared just thinking that I would be betraying my sister if I let him kiss me. I started to panic but my body wouldn’t move the way that I wanted it to. Time seemed to tick by so slowly as Anthony’s face approached mine.
I’m just an imposter. How can I possibly let him kiss me?
“You don’t want to?” he asked in a whisper.
