Chapter 884: Chapter 884 : Date Night

*Bianca*

My trip to the school went slower than normal today. Just a few meetings and catch-up work to do since I’d left previously and then come back. But it still required my diligence, especially since I was determined to make a life here in America.

I found myself trudging back to the compound later than normal today though it didn’t matter much, to be honest. I would always arrive hours earlier than Leo anyway. His penchant for getting home later had been getting worse ever since we arrived back from our impromptu vacation.

I pursed my lips in distaste as I entered the quiet house once more. The lights were still, the house empty and silent except for the few servants still walking around to clean. And of course, Leo is nowhere to be seen as usual.

My suspicions had been cementing in my mind for a while and at this point, I’m convinced that Leo must be hiding a whole other secret life from me. It’s the only thing that makes sense.

Might as well get some studying done before he gets back. Then I can try to grill him for answers a little longer. I’m still incredibly upset that we left the surprise vacation he did for me and most likely didn’t tell me the truth about why.

It’s frustrating and baffling. A part of me kept second-guessing myself, thinking that getting involved with Leo had been a bad decision but the other part of me loved him so deeply that it didn’t matter.

If he really loved me, one day he would be completely honest with me.

I sighed and had just taken off my shoes when the front door burst open after me. I jolted in surprise, turning to glance around.

I glimpsed Leo’s gorgeous blue eyes and his massive grin before he swept me up into his embrace, twirling me around as he kissed me deeply.

“Leo,” I tried to say because of the flurry of kisses he left all over my face but he wasn’t listening. I swear he was even humming. His happiness was contagious and I couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled out from my chest, matching his energy just on instinct.

“What is going on with you?” I laughed once he finally set me down on my feet. I cupped his cheek, brushing my thumb over his skin gently. “Why are you back so early? Did something happen?”

“Maybe,” He hummed noncommittally, grinning like a wildcat as he wrapped his arms around my waist. “What do you think about going out for dinner tonight? Somewhere nice.”

“Really?” A grin spread across my lips at the idea, excitement bubbling up like butterflies. I was happy to see him in such a good mood, of course, but also just happy to be able to spend more time with him.

Especially if some good food and wine were involved.

“I’d love to! Let me go get ready,” Overcome with excitement, I rushed out of his arms and up the stairs back to my room. I’d been going back and forth between staying in my room and his but all my clothes were still firmly placed in my own room.

I pulled out the best dresses I had from my closet and laid them out on my bed. It didn’t take long at all to take a shower and come back out with a towel wrapped around me. But at that point, my indecisiveness hit me hard.

Between the short black dress and the long flowy purple one, each was one of my favorites but I just couldn’t decide.

Leo knocked on the door and I grinned as he patiently waited until I called out “Come in!” before he barged in. He sent me a grin, giving a whistle as he saw my undressed form.

“I take it you’re not ready yet?” He smirked, crossing his arms as he leaned on the wall.

I rolled my eyes. “Obviously. Which one do you like better?” I grabbed both dresses, putting them in front of me for him to see.

He raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you want me to pick out your clothes?”

I was a bit nervous, to be honest, but I wasn’t going to back down. I held firm, nodding in confirmation. If it was terrible, I could just blame it on him anyway, I thought reasonably.

He smirked, glancing over each dress with an unimpressed look, and then turned to my closet. I was deflated, bewildered by what he was doing as from the very back of the closet he pulled out a stunningly gorgeous dress.

It appeared simple at first glance, a fiery red satin fabric all the way through, broken only by a silver band around the waist. It was a spaghetti strap with a sweetheart neckline and as the skirt flared out around the waist, a long slit went down across the right side, revealing just a hint of skin.

“It’s beautiful,” I breathed but then glanced at my closet in confusion. “But that’s not my dress. I swear I don’t own that. Where on earth did it come from?”

I stuck my head into the closet, looking where he pulled it out from but it was all just normal. It seemed like he’d just pulled it out from nothing like a magician.

A thought slowly occurred to me and I turned to Leo, my eyes narrowed in suspicion. Sure enough, he had a guilty look on his face as he avoided my eyes, staring at the ceiling while he whistled innocently.

“Leo,” I crossed my arms warningly.

“Fine, fine,” He laughed, coming forward to drape the dress over my front. “I did buy it for me and may have planted it in your closet just for tonight. But look how gorgeous you look in it? A little deception can be worth it.”

He winked and I blushed, my cheeks turning as scarlet as the dress. I took it from him, loving the feel of the fabric in my arms.

“Alright, you did good, this time,” I admitted but then gave him a stern look. “” But no more hiding things in my closet.”

“No deal,” Leo laughed, leaning against the wall with a mischievous grin. He didn’t bother to give me any privacy to change but at this point, I didn’t really care. He’d seen everything.

I stepped into the dress and Leo helped me zip it up in the back. Having it on felt amazing and I ran my hands down my waist, grinning brilliantly.

Dinner out tonight meant heading to a place called 71Above, a quiet restaurant with a gorgeous view and ambiance. The food was delicious and Leo and I had enough privacy to just talk about everything and anything we wanted.

I finally felt like we were starting to get to know each other on a deeper level and I found that I kept liking Leo even more and more. He was kind to everyone - from the way he overtipped the waiters and always thanked them for their time.

He had a certain knack for sneaking past even the toughest of walls, in a way you didn’t even realize. Friendly and welcoming, he managed to talk and relate to anyone all the while maintaining that polite gentleness about him. It was a feat I doubt even a few could copy let alone master like he clearly had.

I was a bit more than just buzzed on the cocktails I ordered by the time we headed back and as usual when I was just the slightest bit drunk, I clung to whoever was nearest to me. Leo didn’t seem to mind, even as he was forced to hold me in his lap the entire ride home.

I’d braided his longer strands of hair, happy with myself as I nibbled on his ear and he lifted me into his arms to carry me inside, ignoring my shrieks of nonsensical laughter. He only set me down once we were inside and I clung to him just as fiercely as I leaned up to pull him into a kiss. After a moment he pulled away with a laugh.

He smiled so gently as he reached out to hold either side of my face. He pulled me close, affection shining in his eyes as he looked at me. My heart stuttered at such a gaze.

“I love you.”

And he captured my lips in his.

It was all a blur to my alcohol-soaked brain but I know that I whispered out my response at least four times as we made out on the staircase. I was breathless and dizzy when he pulled away, both of us breathing hard as we stared into each other’s eyes.

I beamed, grabbing his hand to pull him up to bed with me but Leo stayed firmly on the bottom step as he gave me a gentle look.

“I’ll be right up. I just have to take care of something,” He said softly.

“You better,” I said playfully, and I jumped forward eagerly to peck him on the lips before racing upstairs as fast as I could. I could hear him moving around as I left for his bedroom but I didn’t question what he needed to take care of.

I trusted him not to leave me waiting for too long.

It was a contortionist act to grab the zipper on my back and shed the beautiful dress onto his floor. By that point, I was only in the red lacy bra and panty I had chosen to wear. I jumped onto his bed, giggling to myself as I was still high from the alcohol and I moved around a bit, laying out in different poses to see which one I liked the best.

But Leo was late. It had to have been at least half an hour and my tispiness was wearing off, my smile long having faded as I watched the door anxiously. I was just starting to grow cold, my fingers feeling like ice when the door finally opened.

I perked up, hopeful that he would apologize and make it up to me but my smile faded as I saw the deep frown on his face and the guilty look in his eyes.

I sobered almost instantly, a cold calmness washing over me as I realized exactly what was about to happen.

“Bianca, I’m sorry,” He started his excuses, “I have to go deal with an emergency issue at the office. The computers are acting up and there are important work files that need to be backed up. I’ll be back as quickly as I can.”

“Of course you will.” My voice was like ice and I watched him flinch, his eyes going wide but I had no sympathy for him. I got up from his bed, grabbed my dress from the floor, and slipped it on. I didn’t bother to zip it up but instead sent him an indifferent look.

“I’m going to sleep in my room tonight. You have fun with your work emergency,” I said bitterly and before he could say anything else, I left. As soon as the door shut behind me, I glared at the floor under my bare feet.

I was done with this.

I’m tired of feeling like I’m being lied to.

A wave of determination flooded over me as the inkling of a plan cemented in my mind. If he wouldn’t be honest with me about where he was going and what he was doing, then I would just have to follow him and find out for myself.

And if it turns out he was lying to me like I thought, he’d have hell to pay.
