Chapter 53 - The Structure Of The Sect

A smug grin spread across Han Yu's face as he imagined himself lounging in some luxurious peak, basking in the admiration of fellow disciples. Yes, the Twin Leaf Peak Sect was his golden ticket to the high life—or at least, that's what he hoped.

"Stop grinning like an idiot," Xu Qing sighed.

"Can't help it. This place is amazing."

"Just wait until training starts."

Han Yu's grin faltered. "Training?"

"Yes. You'll wish you were back in that outpost by the end of your first session."

Han Yu gulped. Maybe scamming fate came with a price tag after all. He tried to ignore it for the time being and focused on the task at hand.

"Speaking of servants, how many does a place like this need?" Han Yu couldn't help but wonder.

"Quite a lot," Xu Qing said. "I think there are more servants than there are disciples in the sect."

"That many?" Han Yu was surprised. "And how many disciples are there?"

"You already know the ranks of disciples, right?" Xu Qing hoped.

"Yeah, there's Outer Court Disciples, Inner Court Disciples, and then the Core Disciples—the real big wigs." Han Yu remembered.

"Good, at least you know that much." Xu Qing took a breath of relief. "There are around a million Outer Court Disciples, two hundred thousand Inner Court Disciples, and about three hundred Core Disciples."

"WHAT THE—?!" Han Yu was stunned. "That many? That's bigger than the entire kingdom's army!"

'If all of these are cultivators, then even the Kingdom's army can't do anything against them since many of them are just simple warriors in the Body Tempering realm,' Han Yu thought to himself, finally realizing the might of a sect.

"Of course, we are among the top ten sects on the continent," Xu Qing said proudly.

"The Twin Leaf Peak Sect is top ten?!" Han Yu couldn't believe his luck. "I joined a top ten sect... HAHA!" The boy couldn't help but rejoice, nearly falling off the sword due to his antics.

"HEY! I'LL DROP YOU IF YOU DON'T STOP THAT!" Xu Qing, who suddenly felt the spirit sword sway, shouted.

"O-Okay!" Han Yu hurriedly said.

SIGH

Xu Qing let out a breath and continued her explanation.

"The servants rank below the Outer Court Disciples. Most of them are those who chose to become servants after being unable to obtain the qualifications of an official disciple. Their numbers change far too often, so I don't know the exact amount."

"No wonder there are so many. It's all the failures," Han Yu muttered, feeling thankful for his luck.

"Other than the three official disciple ranks, there are more ranks above them," Xu Qing said, wishing to test out the boy's intelligence. "Can you guess what they are?"

"Hmm... That should be the Elders of the sect as well as the Patriarch, right?" Han Yu answered.

"That's right, but there's one more rank," Xu Qing said, making Han Yu's curiosity rise. "It's the Legacy Disciples."

"Who are they?" Han Yu asked.

"They are the true younger generation powerhouses of the sect. They are also the ones who are poised to lead the sect in the future, and the next Patriarch is selected from among them," Xu Qing said with some veneration.

"Whoa... So those are the real young masters," Han Yu muttered. "How many of them are there?"

"Just five," Xu Qing answered, making the boy surprised.

"Only five? That low?" Han Yu had expected there to be more.

"Of course, they are the cream of the crop. They are the strongest disciples within the sect, even stronger than some of the Elders," Xu Qing replied. "In fact, they could already become Elders themselves, but due to their talent, the sect deems it better for them to train in seclusion rather than take on duties that would waste their time."

"Damn." Han Yu took note to never offend them. 'Who knows what'll happen if I piss off one of them accidentally? I might not even have a corpse left,' he thought to himself.

But on the flip side, he now also knew the exact people whose thighs he needed to hug.

Seeing his expression, Xu Qing could easily guess that he was afraid.

"Don't worry, you won't usually come across them. Even I haven't seen any one of them for about a hundred years now," Xu Qing stated.

"For a hundred years?" Han Yu raised his brows. "Hang on... how old are you?" The boy asked before realizing his mistake.

Xu Qing's expression turned dark, and she quickly made the spirit sword fly upside down.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Han Yu dropped like a dead fly and started plummeting to the ground. "I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY!" he apologized as loudly as he could, hoping to be saved.

Xu Qing watched him fall before quickly swooping in and catching him just a few meters above the ground.

Han Yu's heart continued to throb like it would jump out of his chest. "I almost died! And I didn't even come close to becoming rich!" Han Yu wailed to himself.

"Learned your lesson?" Xu Qing scowled.

"YES, MA'AM!" Han Yu quickly replied. He hadn't thought that she would actually drop him. Turns out, she wasn't joking.

The two began flying again and rose to a high altitude once more.

Han Yu was silent for a few minutes, trying to overcome the earlier trauma—and failing at it.

"What... No... Where do these Legacy Disciples live?" Han Yu asked, some ideas of his own forming.

"Each of the five disciples belongs to different peaks depending on their talent. The Sword Peak, Spear Peak, Alchemy Peak, and Formation Peak all have their own Legacy Disciple," Xu Qing answered in a cold tone.

"Wait, that leaves one left." Han Yu counted.

"That would be Eldest Senior Sister Ming," Xu Qing said with a strange expression.

"She doesn't belong to any peak?" Han Yu asked with some surprise.

"She's a bit special... you don't need to worry about it." Xu Qing didn't seem inclined to explain further.

Han Yu, however, had a growing feeling that his peaceful days in this sect were numbered.
