Chapter 21: New Team

Stanley handed the teacher Aaron his assessment, which the older man flipped through and nodded as he read it. bed𝚗o𝚟𝚎𝚕.𝚌𝚘m

"Not bad, you really have awakened quite the powers. They are simple but efficient. You will do great as a Defender surely," the man said. "Go and rest now. You guys will have to start your patrolling tomorrow and will have to help Defenders with Census."

"Yes, sir," Stanley said and walked away happily.

Aaron walked away, flipping through the sheets, and arrived at the training ground. He looked for the trainer that had their name on the sheets and found him a few minutes later.

"Did you test Stanley?" he asked the man.

"That's the kid with physical enhancement, right? Yeah, I tested him during the afternoon, why?" the trainer asked.

"This, is this real?" the teacher pointed at one of the results.

"Reaction speed? Yeah, I had to get as close as 5 meters before he was hit by my arrow. Actually, he reacted to my arrow at that time too, but he simply wasn't fast enough," the trainer said.

"5 meters, that's close," the teacher Aaron said.

"That's very close," the trainer agreed. "I swear, the only other person that can do what he did is Yasu, and that's only because of his powers."

"I know," the teacher said. "He might actually be an amazing addition to the Defenders."

'That is if he can get a handle on his trauma and not let it affect him physically,' the teacher thought. He talked with the trainer about a few more things in the sheet and walked away.

Stanley walked into the training area the next morning where they were told to gather. He saw people that were not only Defenders and third-year trainees but also second-year and first-year trainees as well.

'Everyone is gathering once more huh?' he thought.

"What are you doing here?" Desmond asked from one side with disbelief clear on his face. "Why haven't you left already?"

"Why would I leave?" Stanley asked the man.

"You are a Dull, you should leave," Nale who was beside him spoke up.

Stanley shook his head and ignored them. The few people tried to make a ruckus, telling the teacher that he was still there, but were instead made to shut up by the teachers.

"We've already tested Stanley. He has awakened his powers and is no longer a Dull," one of the teachers said. "Focus on yourself instead of others from now on."

"What?" Desmond couldn't believe it. "But he…"

He didn't know what to say anymore. He still refused to believe it until he saw Stanley's new powers, but he could no longer create any problems for him. At least, not directly.

"Since you are all here, come and find out who you are shadowing today," one of the teachers spoke, calling out to trainees that were gathered in the field.

One by one, everyone walked forward and were handed some information on a piece of paper. Stanley got one of those papers too and saw what it wrote.

There were 3 pieces of information exactly.

The first information held the Defenders they were going to be shadowing to learn from them. In Stanley's case, it was someone named Garry Walker and George Shawn.

Stanley recognized this fellow named Garry, even if by just name. It was a tall, bearded young man with short black hair. He wasn't aware of what his powers were, but he didn't need to know that.

As for George, he thought he knew the guy, but wasn't sure if he did. He would have to meet the person to recognize him.

The second information held the date and time at which he had to work. As a third-year trainee, he would have 5 days of work in a week. Of the remaining two days, only one of them would be a rest day while he would still have to train in the other one.

The third and final piece of information was the amount of time he would have to shadow the two people.

2 months. That was it.

For the next two months, 5 days a week, Stanley was supposed to go along with either Garry or George, depending on who didn't have to patrol the veil and learn from them.

After two months, they would all have to start working on their own.

Stanley looked at the 2nd information that told the time. From 11 am to 5 pm, he had to work with Garry today.

He looked around the field for the short-haired man and found him standing next to a couple of trainees already.

He walked up to the guy and greeted him. "Hello, brother. Are you Garry?" he asked as he held out the piece of paper.

"Yeah, that's me," the man said and looked at the note. "Oh, you have George too huh? You'll learn a lot soon enough."

"Yes," Stanley said softly. He looked at the others that were next to him and saw 3 younger people whom he didn't recognize.

"I'm still missing 2, where are they?" Garry said while looking out for the ones that would be under him.

Stanley made some small talk with the 2 that were there and learned that two of them were from the 2nd year while the youngest one was from the first year.

Another first-year joined, and finally, the last 3rd year joined as well.

A young man named Freddy arrived by their group and greeted everyone. "Oh, you're still here?" he asked with genuine surprise when he saw Stanley.

"I awakened my powers so I don't have to leave," Stanley mentioned.

"Oh, congrats," the young man said.

Stanley felt weird hearing something that was so clearly genuine from someone in his batch. But then again, he never tried to talk with anyone before due to being Dull and thus didn't know everyone's personality.

He knew Freddy was one of the weaker people in the third year, but aside from that, he was unaware of what his last name even was.

Garry clapped to get everyone's attention.

"Okay, since we're all here, let's go start our work."
