When night fell, Yang Wanli decided this wasn’t working and dragged Man Datou over to the town.
By now, night had fully set in, and the town gates were closed. There were only two guards on duty atop the wall, chatting inattentively. Man Datou and Yang Wanli rode their Giant Scorpions right up to the gate without being noticed.
"Hey, gatekeepers! Open your eyes and look! The Grand General of Divine Martial Arts has arrived! Open the gates at once!"
The sudden shout startled the guards on the wall. The two men rubbed their eyes, shone their torches down to get a better look, and were so frightened their souls nearly leaped from their bodies.
"Mon-monster!"
"What a huge scorpion!"
"Is that even a person down there?"
The two guards panicked, completely at a loss.
Yang Wanli snorted and shouted again, "Do not panic! This is a tamed Divine Scorpion, which only our Grand General of Divine Might can ride! Open the gate at once and inform your County Magistrate! I, the General, have a fine piece of business to discuss with him!"
"Huh?"
"A Divine Scorpion?"
"The Grand General of Divine Might?"
The guards on the wall were still trembling with fear, uncertain whether they should open the gate.
Yang Wanli looked up at them, feeling quite anxious himself.
