Strongest Demigod System-Chapter 61: Hymn of Ascension
As you become more in tune with yourself, you slowly improve your core until you break the outer layer of the core, revealing a newer, stronger layer that would be one rank higher than the previous layer.
And when Azrael told the system to explain what the [Lithany of Ascension] was, he got a similar explanation.
But over the years, people who have ranked up their cores have made it easier for younger demigods to reach a higher rank using the Lithany. They wrote down instructions and techniques that each demigod could use in practice, and when they followed those instructions, they could reach the required percentage for progressing much faster.
But just like everything else in the world, there were those who decided to monopolize the information and restrict it only to their allies. The most common example of this is the Twelve Hymns of the Lithany. Each of the hymns was developed by one of the twelve great pantheons to teach the demigods under them how to practice the Lithany. Each pantheon has developed its own technique for following the mantra, and they would only give this technique to the children blessed by their Celestial Guardian.
Out of the twelve hymns, the hymn that was seen as the most powerful was the Hymn to Zeus. This hymn was developed by the Zeus pantheon and it not only allowed a demigod to progress through the Lithany quickly, but it was also said to give them a greater boost in their abilities than the other hymns as they developed their God Aspect.
The Twelve Great Pantheons have never revealed their Hymns to the public, but there were hundreds of bastardized versions of the hymns online with people claiming that they got it directly from the Pantheons. Everyone knew that these were fakes because the hymn was never written down or spoken of. If a demigod under one of the twelve pantheons wanted to use the hymn, they would have to go to the pantheon headquarters, and they would be given the hymn right there.
At Divine Academy, the students were taught the general Hymn that was created by the Divine Enforcers. This hymn was not as powerful and it didn't help you progress as quickly as the hymns created by the twelve pantheons. But it was still strong enough to get most demigods through the various ranks in time.
Azrael would have liked it if he managed to get one of the Twelve Hymns. If he could get the Hymn to Zeus to improve his Divine Rank, then he might even be able to rank up to E rank by tomorrow.
But there was no way he would be able to get it, so he decided to just put it out of his mind.
Hymns themselves weren't prayers to your Celestial Guardian, but rather, they were a form of introspection.
If Azrael had to describe it in the way he best understood it, he would say that a hymn was a prayer to the exalted version of your perfect self.
It is a form of deep relationship between you and your perfect self where you constantly seek out that perfection, regardless of how much it eludes you.
In this iteration of prayer, you are the worshiper, and you are God.
A demigod would have to meditate on the Hymn for long periods of time until they are able to rank up, and since the timeframe for each demigod ranking up was so different, the Divine Enforcers put the entire Lithany hymn that they created on their website so that anyone could use it at any time.
The Divine Academy curriculum was still going to teach the hymn later in the year when they believed that most students were either about to rank up or close to it, but by then, most of the students from the Twelve Great Pantheons would have already learned the hymns from their respective pantheons, and the other students would have either gotten another variant from someone close to them or they would have learned it on the website beforehand, so it wasn't taken very seriously at all.
Azrael stood to go to the bathroom, and as he passed the mirror, he thought he saw a flash of blood on his face. Azrael went back and looked again, and he blinked in surprise when he saw that his right eye had turned red.
What the hell?
Azrael looked closer to the mirror and he was even more shocked when he saw that it wasn't some illusion. His right eye had really turned red.
It was just the right eye that had changed, and his left eye was still the regular black. And when he looked closer, Azrael saw that there was some strange design in the middle of the eye, like a pair of bat wings.
Azrael wondered if this was a result of something from yesterday, and he turned to his system again. The tab where his Artificial God Aspects were shown had the [Eye of Nyx] skill lit up, and Azrael realized that it must've been activated all this time. Azrael thought about deactivating it and hoped that it would work, and thankfully, his eyes went back to normal.
Azrael leaned against the sink and sighed while bowing his head. He couldn't keep getting scares like this.
If anyone had seen that eye when he didn't know about it, then they would definitely suspect something was up. Azrael could have lied that it was contact lenses, but that could've still ended badly.
This thought brought up another important topic in Azrael's mind.
Azrael couldn't keep killing indiscriminately.
Azrael knew that he was willing to do almost anything for power. He had proven it to himself many times in the past few weeks.

But that didn't mean that he was going to just start killing indiscriminately in order to get power. Not only was that a bad idea because he had no idea what form of God Aspect he could get from random demigods, but it was also bad because it would only make the police come after him harder than ever.
Azrael was lucky enough to survive yesterday, but on another day, he might not be that lucky.
Azrael needed to find a way to see other people's God Aspects.
It was a long shot, but Azrael knew that there had to be a demigod out there that had such a God Aspect.
With the ability to see other people's God Aspects, Azrael would be able to properly decide who he was going to kill and who he was going to ignore. Killing without knowing what he was going to be getting afterward was stupid.
Azrael was lucky enough to get a God Aspect like [Eye of Nyx] now that didn't have any form of apparent downsides. But if he killed a demigod later that had a God Aspect which had disadvantages, then Azrael wouldn't like that.
The only question now was how he was going to find someone that had that sort of ability. Azrael could search online for them, but if they happened to be somewhere far away or in the Divine Enforcers, then Azrael was going to be out of luck.
Azrael went to use the bathroom and then he went out to get breakfast. There was no one left in the dorm, so Azrael just had some cereal and then went back to his room.
He sat on his bed, opened the Divine Enforcers website, and then navigated towards the page where the Lithany Hymn was written.
