"Pfft! He won't even be able to touch James Rickard! He's a fucking reject!"

Gerald suddenly shouted loudly from the front of the class, and most of the students in the class began to snicker in amusement. Azrael frowned for a moment when this happened, but he didn't allow it to affect him for long and just leaned back in his chair and calmed himself. It was pointless getting angry about something that no longer concerned him.

A few days ago, Azrael would have been angry at Gerald for bringing up his disability, but now, he didn't need to feel anger anymore. Instead, Azrael felt a new emotion burning deep in his stomach.

Determination.

If James Rickard had the same Divine Potential as him and was able to make it to EX Rank by the time he was graduating from school, then what was stopping Azrael from doing the same thing?

In fact, with the blessings that he got from Thanatos, why should Azrael stop there? He had the tools and the means, so why would he limit himself?

Azrael felt a new goal forming within his mind. He was only going to give himself one year. At the end of one year, Azrael would try his hardest to achieve what it took James Rickard three years to achieve!

Smack!

Scar smacked Gerald on the head with his novel for disturbing the class, and Gerald grumbled at the hit and held his head before Scar told the class to focus on him once more.

At lunch that day, Maddison told Azrael that someone from their class was going to be hosting a massive party at their mansion for his birthday, and she had been invited as well. Azrael was surprised by this because he knew that Maddison wasn't popular with her classmates, and he asked her who it was.

"Sunny Gaye."

'Ah, no wonder.'

Sunny Gaye was one of the Kings in the school, along with Jane and the late Francis. He had made waves in the school for his insanely strong body and his God Aspect that promised to make him one of the most powerful demigods. And after gaining an S Rank in the Divine Potential reading, it was obvious that he only got more popular.

But the thing that no one ever seemed to talk about was the fact that Sunny was a massive playboy. It didn't matter what girl he set his eye on, he would always try his hardest to win her over using his athleticism, his looks, or his money. And with how skilled and rich he was, it wasn't difficult to get these girls to agree to be with him.

The relationships never lasted longer than a month, and in the end, Sunny always got tired of them. Of course, there were a few girls who refused to be with Sunny even when he tried to woo them, and no amount of money or showing off would make them agree. But there were two that Sunny had tried to woo many times, even when he was always failing. One of them was Jane Ashton, and the other was, surprisingly, Maddison.

As a child of Hades, everyone thought that Sunny would avoid her like the plague, but he didn't do that. Instead, he asked Maddison out a few times and tried to get her to be with him. Maddison never agreed for her own reasons, and Sunny eventually forgot about her when he found another girl that caught his eye.

But now that the rumor about Azrael and Maddison was starting to gain speed in the school, it was obvious that Sunny was not happy about it.

Azrael released a low chuckle as he bit off a piece of the chocolate bar he was eating. Did Sunny invite her to the party so that he would try and seduce her there? Sunny was jealous that Maddison preferred Azrael over him.

Was that why Sunny didn't invite him as well?

That was just typical.

"Are you going?"

Azrael asked this as he watched Maddison finish off another plate of rice. Azrael didn't know where she was putting all that food. Azrael only ate three plates, but Maddison had polished off close to five in less than an hour!

Azrael wondered if she wasn't being fed properly at her house.

"I don't think so. It's going to be something for the upper class, and they'll probably invite my brother and other rich heirs in the city. It'll be too uncomfortable."

Azrael hummed in understanding. Maddison probably didn't want to be seen as the odd one out in a gathering like that. It was obvious that Sunny was going to try and make her stand out so that he could show off to her, and that would only make things more uncomfortable.

Maddison gained a small grin as she spoke again.

"Besides, I don't think my boyfriend would like that very much."

Azrael blinked before his face squeezed into a small frown, and Maddison just chuckled in amusement at his reaction.

Azrael sighed tiredly when he realized that she was only messing with him and he returned to his food. The entire rumor about them going out together was something that was causing waves in the school. Many students were always watching them, and it was only made worse by the fact that they were both children of darkness, so people were cautious and worried at the same time.

There still hadn't been any issues with the other students since they weren't openly showing affection, but Azrael knew it was only a matter of time before things got out of hand. Azrael decided that sooner rather than later, he would have to fake a breakup.

"Have you gotten things ready for when you go to the hotel?"

Maddison spoke up in a low whisper so that only she and Azrael would hear what he was saying, and Azrael looked at her blankly for a few seconds. Maddison had a hopeful look on her face as she waited for an answer.

Maddison knew that Azrael had intentionally not told her what he was doing and was keeping her out of the loop because he didn't trust her yet, but she really wanted to know what he was doing!

Azrael finished off his food and grabbed a chocolate bar, then he only said one word.

"Yes."

Maddison smiled and asked him what he was planning, but Azrael didn't give her anything more, and she eventually sighed tiredly while poking her food with her spoon.

Maddison hoped that she and Azrael could be something like friends since she didn't have anyone else that she could talk to like this, but there was a wall that Azrael had put up between the both of them that prevented her from getting closer to him. It was impossible to even know what was on Azrael's mind half the time.

Was he thinking about how annoying she was right now?

Or was he thinking about what he would eat later today?

It was impossible to know.

Maddison finally looked up and spoke again.

"Have you thought about what I asked you before? Training together."

Azrael hummed once more as the bell for lunch rang to tell the students to go back to their classes, and Maddison was shocked when Azrael nodded while standing up from his seat.

"I'll see you in the gym at five."

"R-Really!? I mean – yeah, yeah! Okay!"

Azrael gave Maddison a small smile before he left, and Maddison felt a giddy sensation traveling through her body as she realized she was going to have someone training with her!

It seemed like a small thing to dream about, but Maddison was used to watching the other students who would spot each other and give each other pointers while training, and she always wanted something like that as well! She thought she would never get it because of who she was, but it no longer had to be that way!

This was the closest Maddison had ever gotten to having a friend, and she was not going to let it slip!
