Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees-Chapter 39 - 38: What Hair Oil Do You Use?
At eleven o’clock sharp, Song Yuncheng hurriedly excused herself.
It wasn’t until Chen Yansen saw her change into a work uniform, grab a ladle, and take her place at a service window that he understood why she had been rushing him to eat faster.
’You can apply for student loans in college, not to mention grants and scholarships. Just how broke is she? She’s working even harder to make money than I am.’
Chen Yansen wondered to himself.
Afterwards, he strolled back toward his dorm, letting his food settle.
Meanwhile, on the campus forum and Qian Du message boards, discussion threads about ’Chen Yansen’ had already blown up with hundreds of replies.
"Pics for proof! A super-rich freshman was in the cafeteria giving away hundreds of thousands in cash!"
"Is being a campus card agent that profitable? Can someone get me in on it? I want to do it too."
"He’s a rich kid to begin with. He showed up for registration on the first day in a Mercedes E300!"
"Who took this picture? Looks like it was taken on a potato. It’s so blurry you can’t even make out his face."
"I’ve seen Senior Brother Chen. He’s way better looking in person than in the photo. Even Jing Bairen isn’t as handsome as him."
"To the fangirl above, get it straight. Chen Yansen is a freshman this year. How is he a ’senior brother’?"
"None of your damn business! I’ll call him Senior Brother if I want to!"
The next two hundred replies were a flame war between the fangirl and the heckler. They only quieted down after an admin stepped in and banned them.
Combined with the hype from all the sub-agents, the name Chen Yansen became famous not only among the freshmen, but even the sophomores and juniors knew who he was.
As for the seniors, they were busy writing their theses and looking for jobs, so naturally, they had no time for such gossip.
In a girls’ dorm room.
Su Meiling sat in front of her computer, endlessly scrolling through the posts about ’Chen Yansen’. She unconsciously murmured, "Such an outstanding guy should be my boyfriend."
With this in mind, she sent a text message to Tang Zhenzhe.
One was the class president and the other was the Youth League secretary; they had exchanged contact information long ago.
When Chen Yansen pushed open the door to his dorm room, he saw Tang Zhenzhe, his hair gleaming, applying lotion to his face in front of the mirror. He laughed and teased, "What kind of pomade are you using? It looks like shoe polish."
"Aiya, Brother Sen, you’re finally back! The RA did a room check last night. I told him you were in the shower."
Tang Zhenzhe grinned, eager to take credit.
"Not bad, Ah Zhe, you know how to get things done. Huh, are you guys going out?"
Chen Yansen patted the other’s shoulder with a look of approval, but when he saw the rest of his roommates also getting dressed up, he immediately realized what was happening.
"The Youth League secretary invited our dorm to a mixer," Song Yang explained, setting down the sneaker he was holding. "We decided on karaoke in the afternoon and dinner tonight."
"Oh. Have fun, you guys."
Chen Yansen set down his bag, kicked the door shut with his foot, and spoke as he started taking off his shirt.
"Ah! Brother Sen, you’re not coming?"
Tang Zhenzhe was stunned and hurriedly pressed him. Su Meiling had specifically instructed him to bring everyone from dorm 8302.
"Holy shit! Brother Sen, you work out? Your physique is insane!"
Before Chen Yansen could reply, Wang Zhengqiang lunged forward, his hands reaching out to feel the muscles.
SLAP!
"Ah Qiang, I didn’t know you swing that way. Stay away from me from now on."
Chen Yansen swatted his hand away with a look of mock disgust, teasing with a mischievous grin.
"No, no, no! I just mean, Brother Sen, your physique is incredible! You’re even more jacked than those of us who play soccer every day," Wang Zhengqiang quickly denied, a sheepish grin on his face.
The other roommates glanced over, their expressions showing their agreement.
They hadn’t expected that underneath his clothes, Chen Yansen was hiding a set of chiseled, well-defined pecs and abs. They weren’t overly bulky, but they radiated power.
Chen Yansen just smiled and said nothing. ’This lean muscle is all thanks to me adding points, little by little.’
"Brother Sen, just come with us this afternoon. It’s supposed to be a dorm mixer, wouldn’t it be weird if someone was missing? Besides, you haven’t joined a single group activity this whole time," Tang Zhenzhe persuaded earnestly.
"I have something to do this afternoon, I can’t go."
Chen Yansen ignored him and continued to change. He stuffed two Apple phones into his locker, then placed another one on his desk, preparing to switch to his new phone. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Whoa, an Apple iPhone 4! I thought it doesn’t come out for another ten-plus days! Brother Sen, how did you get one?" Song Yang’s eyes lit up as he asked curiously.
"Sold a lot of campus cards. The telecom company gave it to me as a gift."
Chen Yansen said nonchalantly.
"Is that phone expensive?"
Zhu Xiaopeng squeezed in between Song Yang and Tang Zhenzhe and asked casually.
"You could buy ten of your phone for the price of this one."
Song Yang recognized it at a glance. The Apple iPhone 4 in Chen Yansen’s hand was the 32GB model, which sold for 5,999 yuan unlocked.
"More expensive than tuition?"
Zhu Xiaopeng clutched the knock-off phone in his hand, realizing for the first time that a phone could be so ridiculously expensive.
"Brother Sen, do your bro a favor. It’s our first mixer, and I really don’t feel confident without you there."
Tang Zhenzhe begged pitifully, his tone a complete mismatch with his dapper appearance.
Chen Yansen sighed helplessly. He hadn’t lied to Tang Zhenzhe; he really did have to go see an apartment that afternoon. Meng Yaqin, the campus telecom regional manager, had helped him contact a teacher who happened to have a vacant faculty apartment.
He pondered for a moment before saying to Tang Zhenzhe, "I’ll go later. No later than five o’clock at the latest."
"Okay."
Seeing him agree, Tang Zhenzhe finally breathed a sigh of relief. ’Showing up late is better than not showing up at all. Then again, it would be even better if he didn’t go, so he wouldn’t steal all the girls’ attention.’
"Have you guys sold all your campus cards?"
Chen Yansen asked. The commissions for the other agents had already been paid, leaving only Tang Zhenzhe and his roommates.
Tang Zhenzhe and the others chuckled, saying proudly that they had sold out yesterday.
The idea had come from Meng Xibo. They used the excuse of visiting other freshmen dorms, specifically targeting the new students. They would make small talk first, then get straight to the point and sell the phone cards.
Since they were all freshmen, it actually created an extra layer of trust between them.
"500 each."
Chen Yansen opened his wallet, revealing a thick wad of cash inside, and promptly paid out their commissions.
As soon as they had the money in hand, the guys started discussing whether they should find a more high-end KTV.
Chen Yansen shook his head, grabbed his phone, and turned to leave.
"Brother Sen, try to get here as early as you can!" Tang Zhenzhe shouted after him.
The faculty apartments for Xucheng Academy were located right behind Dormitory No. 8.
They were generally subsidized housing provided to young teachers. They had a one-bedroom, one-living-room layout. After some teachers got married, they would move into bigger houses in the city, and their on-campus apartments would be rented out to students preparing for postgraduate entrance exams.
He arrived downstairs and made a call. "Teacher Liu? I was referred by Sister Meng. Is it a good time to see the apartment now?"
"Oh, oh, then come on up. The room is 0418."
Teacher Liu’s voice sounded very young—soft, gentle, and with a hint of a charming pout.
’The fourth floor, huh?’
Chen Yansen wasn’t too pleased. The faculty apartments were in a walk-up building, and the lower floors were more comfortable. Besides, he was too lazy to climb stairs.
’Whatever, I’m here already.’
Chen Yansen started up the stairs. Perhaps because of the points he’d added, he made it to the fourth floor in one go without his legs even getting sore.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—
Hearing the sound, Liu Muyan shot to her feet and opened the door.
Standing at the door was a young man of about eighteen or nineteen. He wore a white shirt and black-striped casual pants, looking clean and fresh. He was tall and well-built; his appearance alone made him seem reliable, not like a bad student.
"Teacher Liu, I’m Chen Yansen from the Journalism Class of ’10. Here’s my student ID."
Chen Yansen’s gaze swept over her as he proactively handed over his ID.
She looked to be about twenty-five or twenty-six, with gold-rimmed glasses that gave her a scholarly air. She had a full figure and a baby face.
Liu Muyan took the student ID, glanced at it, and quickly handed it back. She then turned and began to introduce the apartment. "It’s one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom. You can cook, but only with an induction cooker. It has an air conditioner, refrigerator, TV, and washing machine. Oh, and the broadband is a free gift from the telecom company, so you can use it for free."
Her voice was the same as on the phone, with that charming pout, which seemed to be her natural way of speaking.
Chen Yansen nodded slightly and walked around the apartment. The appliances were all from major brands, and the place was tidy with no strange odors. It seemed she didn’t have any pets.
He was quite satisfied with the apartment; it was just the fourth-floor location that made him hesitate.
"Since you were introduced by Sister Meng, I can knock another 50 off for you."
Liu Muyan noticed his hesitation and quickly added.
’Her original asking price was 450. Dropping it by 50 would make it 400. That price wasn’t exactly low, but she had asked for more because she’d put a lot of effort into the renovations.’
"4,800 a year? Can you go any lower?"
Chen Yansen asked.
"Then... then how about another 200 off?"
Liu Muyan asked cautiously. She didn’t have much experience with haggling; the moment Chen Yansen opened his mouth, she had instinctively backed down.
"Deal. Teacher Liu, one moment."
Chen Yansen saw how sincere she was and didn’t have the heart to haggle further. Besides, the apartment was well-renovated and would definitely be comfortable to live in.
With that, he took out his wallet, casually pulled out a stack of cash, and began to count it at a leisurely pace.
Liu Muyan was slightly taken aback and thought to herself, ’This student is quite well-off. He must come from a good family.’
"2,300 in total. I’ll rent it for half a year to start. Teacher Liu, have you prepared a contract?"
Chen Yansen handed her the money and asked.
"A contract? I’ll download a template online later. Once I’ve drafted it, we can sign it then?"
Liu Muyan hadn’t expected him to be more thorough than she was. After a moment’s thought, she replied softly.
"That’s fine."
Chen Yansen didn’t give it much thought. She was a teacher at the academy, so there shouldn’t be any problems.
After getting the keys, he returned to his dorm.
The room was empty; they had obviously all gone to the KTV. So, he grabbed his suitcase and moved some of his things to apartment 0418.
After going downstairs, Chen Yansen followed Xuehai Road to a two-story, red-brick building next to the Music Academy.
He went up to the second floor and knocked on an office door. "Hello, excuse me. I’d like to ask how I can rent an office space in the Innovation Park?"
