Strange Grief Wants to Retire ~ The Weakest Hunter Dreams of a Hero ~-Chapter 440.2: Strange Grief Wants to Retire ⑨
How did this happen?
I, Olivia Delcia, former Chamberlain of Alisha Code, sigh deeply as I look at the cityscape that is completely different from the one I have seen in Code from the window of my assigned room.
Code crashed. If I had heard something like that a month ago, before I met Cry――No, even if I had heard it three days ago, I would have simply laughed it off as a silly joke.
But fact is, Code crashed. The city system stopped working, the buildings that had been created by the system collapsed, and most of the tools that had been created lost their connection to the system and became useless.
It is a moment I will never forget, the moment when Code suddenly began to descend.
Fortunately, no one seemed to have died in the city’s crash. It is likely the result of Code’s attempt to protect the citizens to the very end.
However, in the end, we lost the strongest city system.
There is nothing in the outside world. No terminals that could be called up with just a thought, no abundant supplies, no safety, and no glorious future that I hadn’t even doubted a month ago.
The citizens of the crashed Code are placed under the protection of the Explorer Association. As expected, the city does not have the capacity to accommodate all the citizens, so most of them are still living in the remains of Code, but for the time being, they seem to be managing to get by. For now, they seem to be living comfortably, but it is completely unclear what will happen in the future.
Now that we are at this point, it doesn’t matter how high your Class is (Although my Class fell and still remains as a Class 1).
I know the cause of Code’s crash. It is Cry Andrich. That god of pestilence man had shown his incompetence more than ever and caused Code to shut down its function. There is no doubt about it, as Jin had been screaming about it after being captured by Alisha-ojou.
However, I do not have the freedom to denounce Cry Andrich.
It is because everything is my fault.
Even though it was to fulfill my own job, it was undoubtedly me who found Cry and made him a Royal Guard.
In other words, that means that I am the origin of Code’s crash. For now, few people seem to know the truth, but if it were to become public, there is no telling what the other citizens would do to me. When the city system was still in operation, it would have protected me, but now there is no one to protect me.
A companion who shares the same secret and perhaps is as guilty as me, Alisha-ojou’s caretaker. Jean, the head butler, checks with me.
“Olivia. Have you decided what you are going to do now?” (Jean)
“…… I don’t know. What can we even do?” (Olivia)
We don’t know much about the outside world.
We have lived in Code since our great great great parents’ generations. In Code, survival is guaranteed by the city system, and we can do whatever we want, or it will be fine even if we don’t have to do anything. What on earth can we do when we are suddenly thrown out into the outside world?
There are probably many citizens who are panicking.
The Explorer Association also seems unsure of how to deal with the sudden large number of refugees. It seems that almost all of the mercenaries who originally came from outside have been arrested, but the fate of Code’s native residents remains up in the air.
“…… There is also the option of going back to Code’s ruins. Our supplies should last for a while.” (Jean)
I *garigari* scratch my head at what Jean suddenly said. Indeed, we have food. There are no advanced weapons or tools, but there are some supplies. This is the result of the city system being designed to ensure that citizens can survive to some extent after the crash.
However, that is only enough to allow us to keep living at a minimum for a while――It is only meant to buy time for the citizens to find a new path, but you cannot say that there is plenty, moreover, it is not replenished. There is no future in returning to that place, and I have no confidence in finding another path. In the first place, it all depends on how the Explorer Association decides to treat the citizens――.
The outside world is the worst. The food is not that different, but it is too inconvenient. I haven’t even been able to sleep peacefully for the past few days.
Just as my thoughts are about to reach a dead end again, the door slams open with energy.
The person who entered is Alisha Code.
Alisha’s behavior hasn’t changed at all even after the city crashed. Of course, she was a bit flustered immediately after the crash, but she wasn’t dragging herself around like I have been.
Come to think of it, that is probably natural.
In just one month, she went from waiting to be disposed of by me to being the leading candidate to become the next King of Code. Although this power is not just Alisha’s own, there is no doubt that she possesses the potential of Code’s Royalty.
When Alisha sees me, who is so exhausted, she smiles a smile I have never seen before.
“Olivia, I’ve made a decision. We’re going to be Hunters. So get ready now.” (Alisha)
“Y…… Yes?” (Olivia)
“What?” (Jean)
What a strange thing to say all of a sudden…… Jean, who is next to me, is also stunned.
Hunter? Did Ohii-sama just say Hunter?
There are no Treasure Hunters in Code. There is no Explorer Association, and citizens are basically not allowed to leave the city, so it is only natural. It may be because Treasure Hunters were once Code’s enemies. I have never thought about becoming a Hunter, and it never even occurred to me, even after being taken in by the Explorer Association.
Why on earth did Ohii-sama suddenly say something like that?
As if she is explaining something to a slow-witted child, Alisha speaks to me, who doesn’t understand the situation at all.
“Cry disappeared without a word! That’s why I’m going to become a Hunter and look for him! I’m sure he is telling me to go see and explore the world and find him myself――” (Alisha)
“…… No, there’s no way that’s how it is. That guy isn’t thinking about anything at all……” (Olivia)
He is absolutely not telling you that. That man is incompetent. I already know the story about him being a first-class Hunter, but I cannot believe it at all, even after hearing it.
I have been keeping an eye on that man’s movements ever since I have been demoted to Class 1, and with Jean’s help, I have been investigating his past in more detail.
Well, there is no point in saying that now though――.
“…… And besides, Code’s class system has already fallen. Why should I――” (Olivia)
“Is there something you’re unhappy about, Olivia?” (Nora)
“Hh!? No…… Nora-sama!?” (Nora)
In a panic, I prostrated myself on the spot. The person who comes in after Alisha is none other than Nora Code herself. She moves with dignity and has a sharp gaze. Just like me, she should have lost the blessings of the city system, but her appearance is exactly the same as when she was in Code.
Next comes Tony-ouji, looking just as he was when he was in Code.
“Don’t bully them too much, Nora. They’re citizens of Code too.” (Tony)
“Hmph… I know. They just bowed down on their own accord.” (Nora)
My heart begins to beat at a tremendous pace at the sight of these two royals, who I would normally be too afraid to even be in front of.
Even with the loss of the city system, they remain the reigning rulers that Code’s citizens can never go against. We have received this kind of education since birth, so even if my brain knows that the city system no longer exists, there is no way I can rebel against them.
Next, Zachary-ouji enters the room. As soon as he enters, he narrows his eyes at us and looks at us with a menacing look.
“Oi, you guys. If you do anything cruel to Alisha I’ll kill you. Do you get it?” (Zachary)
“Hiih……” (Olivia)
“Za-Zachary, that’s not good. You have to be nice to the citizens. If you act like that, there might be a fight between the lower class people who are with you and the citizens. If that happens, Alisha will be sad.” (Morris)
“………… Tsk.” (Zachary)
Zachary-ouji clicks his tongue in response to what Morris-ouji, who is following behind him, said.
What on earth is going on? All of Code’s Royalty, except for one person, are gathered in such a cramped room――.
And then, the last person enters while Jean and I, who don’t understand the situation and can only bow down.
Angus Code. Formerly the most likely candidate to become the next King of Code. The one who was the closest to the throne and the one whom the majority of the citizens did not doubt would sit on the throne.
Angus-ouji looks at Jean and I and says clearly.
“Olivia, Jean. Get ready for us to be Hunters. This is an order. Do you understand?” (Angus)
“Hh…… Yes, sir. but………… Ho-However…… What are you doing after, becoming a Hunter――” (Olivia)
Now that Angus-ouji is also telling us that, there is nothing else we can do. However, it is a strange story. The Explorer Association and Treasure Hunters are enemies of the former Code. Becoming a Hunter should be out of question for Angus-ouji, who was said to be the closest to becoming the King of Code. Furthermore, Angus-ouji has been overthrown by the Treasure Hunter, Cry.
However, Angus-ouji is not the type of person to give such orders without a reason.
In response to my question, which came out in a trembling voice, Angus snorts in a disinterested manner.
“That is a stupid question. I am not like Alisha. I will search for the seeds of a new city. Then I will activate a new Code. If the first king could do it, then so can I.” (Angus)
“!!” (Olivia)
This content is taken from fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm.
I unintentionally raise my head, look up, and open my eyes wide at his unexpected answer. Jean is also staring at Angus-ouji in the same way.
A new Code. I have been spending sleepless nights worrying about the future for the past few days, but it has never occurred to me.
Angus-ouji strokes his beard and says.
“The reason I am giving such great responsibility to people like you is because I have already entrusted the management of the citizens of the ruined Code to my excellent subordinates. Even if Code is gone, Code’s Royal Family has a duty to lead the citizens. Of course, if you are successful, I will prepare an appropriate position for you. Do you understand?” (Angus)
“………… How can you be so unabashedly arrogant after showing your pathetic side so shamelessly, Aniue. I don’t think it will go so well――But even if you do find the Royal Staff and a city, it won’t be you who will be the one to become king.” (Nora)
“Don’t be so picky on every single thing! I already know that!” (Angus)
Angus-ouji and Nora-ojou begin a new argument. Tony-ouji watches them while laughing. Zachary-ouji and Morris-ouji maintain a nonchalant attitude, while I don’t know what Alisha is thinking but she has a bright, innocent *niconico* smile on her face.
Seeing this sight, I feel the anxiety that has been thriving within me melt away.
Code’s Royalty is a symbol and a source of hope for its citizens.
As long as they do not lose their heart, Code will not disappear.
I once again prostrate myself along with Jean and reply.
“At your will……” (Olivia)
Thank you for your continued support. This is Tsukikage. This is the end of Code’s Arc that has been going on for a long while. Thank you very much to everyone who has stuck with us this far!
Due to various anime-related matters, I was unable to keep up with the updates. It took a year and four months of updates, but I would be honored if you enjoyed it even a little!
For a detailed review, please check out the StoGri News. But I’m a little relieved that this arc has progressed largely according to the plot.
Whenever I start a new arc, I am always worried about whether I can write something that people will enjoy. So if you can read and laugh without thinking too hard about it, I couldn’t be happier as an author ( ´ー`).
By the way, I will also keep working on the next arc. I am thinking of going with a Lucia-focus one, so please look forward to it!
Also, the 12th volume of the light novel was released today, and the first episode of the anime will begin tomorrow (Although it was streamed on Abema yesterday). The new manga will also be released on the 27th.
I have been able to get this far thanks to everyone’s support. Thank you so much!
The big goal? of having it made into an anime (Although I didn’t have that goal in mind!) was also achieved.
The popularity of 『Strange Grief Wants to Retire (Nageki no Borei was Intai Shitai)』 is finally on the rise.
I hope you will continue to support the web novel, light novel, manga, and anime!
Finally, as it will be a source of motivation, If you enjoyed it or are interested in the next part, Please rate, bookmark, and leave your comments!

Update announcement: @ktsuki_novel (Twitter)
Thanks for reading!
Mission: Code Assault Clear condition: Protect Code’s Royal Family Secondary objective: Destroy Code, Capture Fox Bosses – Kuubi and Kenbi – Quest Complete (With Monster Hunter BGM playing)
And this mark the end of Arc 9, I quite like this arc although I wish we would have seen more of Kaiser and Saya. But it seems like we will see Saya again in the next arc. It is nice to see how Cry can complete a request by himself without Strange Grief and I like how Alisha transformed from a sheltered/locked lady to candidate to become the next King of Code. What did you guys think about this arc?
Arc 10 currently has only 7 chapters. So only 7 chapters before I catch up to the raw! I am happy that I am catching up but at the same time sad because when I do the update will not be regular anymore. The reason that there isn’t that much update is because Tsukikage-sensei is also working on Strange Grief season 2.
As I have said last time I’ll take a 2 week break before translating the last chapters.
If you are in a generous mood and want to support me, I will be very grateful! : Click here for Ko-fi donation or the button bellow
