Chapter 51: Useless Sheep

Rivana shook her head in denial. "No, this must be fake," she murmured, looking up at Callum. Yes, Emmerich never treated her like he did Rubina, but he was still her father. And though she hated it, tears formed in the corner of her eyes.

"Reporters that followed Rubina and Amerie caught an ambulance rushing a few hours later," Callum slowly detailed the information. Everything happened so suddenly, but his team was able to collect all the necessary clues. With a sigh, he added, "But he lost his life before they could reach the hospital."

Passing back the phone, Azrael declared, "Arrange the team."

Callum understood the mission and quickly went to arrange their visit to the hospital. Though the Fayes never treated Rivana well, she was still a member of the family. If she didn’t attend his funeral, it would give food to the witches ready to take her down, and they needed to steer clear of the drama. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

As Callum left, Azrael turned to Rivana. He sighed softly, feeling her sitting numb and cold, lost in shock. Pulling her closer, he murmured, "We will get through this together."

"But he was fine!" Rivana muttered, tears spilling out of her eyes. It came as a huge blow since he seemed all good, and he had been alive in her past life. So, why now?

"Let’s go there and find out what exactly happened to him," Azrael suggested. Even he couldn’t digest it and felt something was off.

Rivana nodded and quickly went to change her clothes. Azrael took out his phone and dialed Ezekiel.

"Where are you guys? Leonora and I are already on our way. Come to the hospital quickly," Ezekiel ordered. His voice strained and had hints of doubt that made Azrael realize it was indeed true.

Humming in response, Azrael ended the call. A few minutes later, Rivana hurried down, and they quickly left for the hospital.

[Carlyn Hospital]

Rivana’s heart thudded more loudly as they entered the hospital premises. Callum and his team surrounded them, forming a human barrier.

"This way," he led them into the lift and pressed the VVIP floor button.

Rivana felt her body trembling as they stood inside the lift. No, he is alive! She kept thinking in her head, hoping it was fake news. That man still had the strength to rule for a few decades and wouldn’t leave this early.

The lift dinged as it reached the destination, the doors opening slowly. Azrael held onto Rivana’s hand, and she gripped it harder, trying to gather the strength for the worst.

"Let’s go," he murmured softly. Rivana slowly nodded, and they stepped out.

The corridor was empty and eerie, and as they reached closer and closer, she could hear wailings and cries of no one but her mother.

Leonora, who was waiting outside the room, saw her. "Anna!" she murmured, quickly rushing to her. She hugged her tightly. Emmerich was still Rivana’s father, and despite everything, he was a significant part of her life.

Rivana closed her eyes and hugged Leonora back. She didn’t let go of Azrael’s hand; instead, she tightened her grip, trying to stop her hands from trembling and showing her weakness.

Ezekiel walked to them and told Azrael, "They want to move him, but his family isn’t accepting it yet." Though the doctors had declared him dead, Amerie made a scene and asked them to continue treatment. Seeing her breakdown, the doctors moved the body here for the family to process their loss.

Azrael nodded in response. Leonora broke the hug and asked softly, "Do you want to go inside?" Everyone in the Faye family was present, and she was very sure they would take it out on her.

Rivana took a deep breath and nodded. She needed to see it with her own eyes to accept it and also perhaps say her last goodbye.

"Be careful," Ezekiel warned Azrael since they couldn’t send armed men inside. It was better for just him to accompany her.

Azrael nodded and escorted Rivana into the room.

As they stepped in, they saw Amerie wailing as she hugged Emmerich, who lay on the bed. Rubina was not far away, sitting right beside him, crying uncontrollably. Gianna stood on the other side; though she wasn’t crying as much as Amerie, there was sadness on her face. Rafaelo sat on the couch, numb and lost in his thoughts.

There was also a team of doctors standing a little distance from the family. Noticing her, the main doctor quickly walked over and greeted her.

"Ms. Faye," he began, addressing her formally as he always did. Turning to the bed, he briefed her, "He had a rare heart condition, and his health kept deteriorating over the last few months. We tried our best, but his heart gave up." With a sigh, he continued, "He wanted to keep it very secret until his last breath, and we were bound by it."

Rivana nodded, a soft sigh leaving her lips. Yes, he would have kept it secret, worried it might be used as a weakness against him. Emmerich may not have been a good father, but he was a great businessman. She had learned many lessons by watching his every move while growing up. The fact that she wouldn’t be able to watch him closely anymore ached her heart, tightening her chest.

The nurse in the room made sure the pen in his pocket was correctly positioned, ensuring to captured the scene in front of him.

On the other end of the live telecast, a man sipped his wine, watching everyone in the room mourn over dead Emmerich.

He placed the glass down and licked his tongue. "He picked a useless sheep," he murmured, his eyes fixed on Rubina.

When he saw her profile, he believed her to be wicked and genius, but she turned out to be a dumb, spoiled woman. With her, her reckless mistakes might ruin all his plans, just like how it had ended up taking the poor Chairman Faye’s life.

Passing back the tablet, he ordered, "Tell him to abort his mission and return. We will be shifting to plan B." With that, he climbed upstairs and walked to his room.
