Chapter 47: Sacrificial Sheep

Amerie’s mouth widened in disbelief, her eyes fixed on Azrael who was smiling at her daughter. Even Rubina, who needed to keep up with the act, couldn’t help but stare at the couple, her face barely hiding her disappointment.

Whenever she picked on Rivana, using her blindness as the ultimate weapon, everyone usually took her side. No matter who was wrong or initiated the fight, people always pitied her and scorned her sister, including Rivana’s mother Amerie. But this man was taking Rivana’s side, and even worse, he was praising her for humiliating her. She clenched her fist, her wet face red with embarrassment.

"You should be scolding her, Mr. Dynar!" Amerie retorted, equally flabbergasted. When Azrael glanced in her direction, she continued, "She was disrespecting your guest."

Azrael didn’t pay attention to her, his eyes fixed on Rivana and her drenched dress. The wine had stained her chest, making him grit his teeth. Taking off his coat, he quickly covered her with it.

Rivana wore it, the coat was bigger and covered her completely. He then looked at her, and she nodded, assuring him she was fine.

Azrael turned around, standing like a shield in front of Amerie and Rubina.

Amerie repeated, "Everyone here saw what happened, Mr. Dynar. She bullied her sister!"

Azrael placed his hands in his pockets, scanning Rubina before looking at Amerie. "So what?"

The guests gasped again in surprise, his arrogance making many flinch in their spots. There was a malicious hint in his tone, his expression making it even worse.

"I don’t think my wife did anything wrong, Mrs. Faye," Azrael continued in a cold voice. "She simply responded to your daughter’s reckless actions, which were clearly intended to create unnecessary drama."

Amerie’s eyes widened in shock, not at his accusations but at the way he so confidently called Rubina her daughter. Feeling everyone’s gaze, she babbled, "Rubina is not my daughter! She is Gianna’s daughter!"

"Oh," Azrael mused, raising his brow innocently. "But the way you always take her side, I thought she was your real daughter and not my wife," he added, his words creating enough speculation.

"That is because Rivana is always wrong!" Amerie countered, her voice shaking lightly. Glaring at Rivana, she continued, "And I can’t ignore her mistakes just because she is my daughter." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"Oh," Azrael murmured again, nodding in understanding. Many started gossiping among themselves, and now all eyes were on Rubina and Amerie. Azrael had smartly turned the tables, shifting all attention onto the duo, making them feel uncomfortable.

Ezekiel, who was watching everything in silence, smiled at his nephew’s wicked play. He was always good, and he proved it again. Stepping forward, he decided to add more fuel to the fire.

"And I clearly remember mentioning in the invitation that only Emmerich Faye is allowed to attend the party from the Faye family," Ezekiel announced, his words causing another uproar.

When Amerie looked at him, her face burning with frustration, he glanced at Rubina and added, "I don’t want people who slandered my daughter-in-law to show up here. Don’t you have any shame, Miss Faye?"

Rubina trembled in her spot, her nails digging into her palm. "I just wanted to make up with my sister, Mr. Dynar," she murmured, trying to maintain her angelic reputation.

Ezekiel let out a laugh, the malicious voice silencing everyone in the room. Looking at Rubina, he scoffed, "How? By seducing her new husband and sleeping with him?"

"Mr. Dynar!" Amerie rebuked, her voice booming high.

Ezekiel ignored her and continued, "Too bad, my nephew won’t fall for your innocence, Ms. Faye. Unfortunately, he hasn’t taken up Santino’s scandalous genes like Viktor and is devoted to just one woman."

Everyone laughed out loud, unable to muffle themselves anymore. The uncle and nephew duo were slandering everyone who had hurt Rivana one way or another. Too bad, Rubina hadn’t done this when Viktor and his family were here. It would have been great to see more faces getting slapped with dirt.

"Now, leave before I call security," Ezekiel declared, pointing at the entrance.

Amerie’s face was bright red, her anger visible quite evidently. Holding Rubina’s shoulder, she murmured, "My husband won’t let this slide, Mr. Dynar. He won’t sit quietly after knowing you humiliated his precious daughter."

"I am very eager to see what he will do, Mrs. Faye," Ezekiel mocked with a smile. "Oh, it is Mistress Faye, I believe."

Many laughed out loud at his words, barely holding themselves back. Amerie gritted her teeth and escorted Rubina out of the scene.

Amerie tried to maintain a poker face, but it was hard as people stared and laughed at them. "You will pay for this, Rivana!" she muttered under her breath, walking toward the door.

"Let’s get you cleaned," Leonora murmured to Rivana and quickly escorted her out of the hall. Frankie and his team followed her out.

As they walked out, Rubina got out of Amerie’s arms. "Don’t touch me!" she rebuked, taking a step back. The way Azrael had addressed her as her daughter, prickled her skin, a knot forming in her stomach. No, she could never be a mistress’s child, the thought was utterly disgusting to her.

"Rubina!" Amerie muttered, trying to get hold of Rubina. But the immature kid walked toward the exit, almost forgetting the fact that she was blind.

Amerie sighed in frustration and ran behind Rubina. Luckily, there weren’t many people in the lounge, and she hoped not to encounter any paparazzi at the front gate.

Taking out her phone, she called the chauffeur. "Get the car immediately!" she ordered, then rushed behind Rubina.

A man sipping wine in the seating area at the lounge looked at the two women.

"Sir, your room is ready." The hotel staff addressed the guest, a VIP on a trip to their city as per their manager. The man nodded with a smile. Pacing down his glass, he got and took took out his phone and texted someone named Red Fox.

[I think we found the sheep to butcher as your sacrifice. They seem to hate Rivana just as much as you want your pawns to]

He sent the text and then, after a few minutes, received a reply:

[Alright. Follow them and lay out the trap]
