Chapter 44: Getting Rid Of Her

"Oh, they are here!" Ezekiel beamed as Rivana and Azrael stepped into the hall.

The entire room fell silent, everyone turning to look at the main stars of the night. Men gulped as they gawked at Rivana, who looked like a wicked queen, coming straight out of the hell in her crimson dress. But they immediately looked away, feeling the intense gaze of the devil himself staring at them. Women couldn’t help but squeal as Azrael passed by, envious of Rivana, who got to be his wife.

Viktor stared at Rivana, his expression darker than before. Not only had she become rebellious, but also bold, considering how daring the dress was. He felt Azrael’s gaze and gritted his teeth, jealousy visible in his eyes. If his annoying brother hadn’t made a scene at their wedding, he would have been the star of the night, of this party.

Amerie couldn’t hide her resentment either. "She has gotten bold ever since he came back into her life," she muttered, glaring at the couple. Sussanah never allowed her to control Rivana the way she wanted in childhood, and she was glad she died and this boy was separated from her daughter. But now, it felt like she was losing Rivana again.

Rubina, who had been awfully silent the whole time, bit her lower lip as she heard her father’s mistress. She was glad when Azrael showed up at the wedding, showing their video. She thought Rivana would be broken into pieces over betrayal, she should have hated Viktor, resented him, slandered her, and be all heartbroken. But her sister didn’t seem to care about them at all as if they never existed, and that bothered her. Rivana seemed genuinely happy with her new husband, and that frustrated Rubina even more.

Azrael walked Rivana to Ezekiel, who was wearing the brightest smile. "You look like a diva, Anna," Ezekiel commented, showing no signs of disappointment at all.

Turning to the guests, he took the mic and welcomed them all. "I appreciate your presence even at such short notice. Please make sure to give my nephew and his wife your blessings."

Everyone raised their glasses from their tables, many cheering and congratulating the couple on their wedding. Ezekiel then walked the couple to a few important guests, his closest friends, and business partners who had come all the way from Draxton for them.

Azrael introduced them, and Rivana politely greeted everyone, her warm smile and friendly personality winning many hearts.

"And not just that, she owns multiple degrees and runs a company at just 21. Can you believe it?" Ezekiel was full of praise for Rivana, making everyone admire her even more.

"That’s commendable," one of the friends commented with a smile. "Your nephew has chosen the right partner," he added. Rivana smiled back in response, her heart fluttering at their comments and the way Azrael kept smiling at her every time they praised her.

"Yeah! That Marisa would have been such a trouble," another joined in. With a worried look, he spoke to Ezekiel, "I was worried you would accept her father’s offer."

"Well, I can’t ruin his life just to salvage some old friendship," Ezekiel replied, his tone serious. "I was fine as long as he got married to someone he liked and had a decent personality." Smiling at Rivana, he added, "But look, this lucky man got such a rare gem."

"You are flattering me, uncle," Rivana commented with a small chuckle.

Everyone enjoyed the party, mainly gossiping about the couple or praising how Rivana made the right choices. Aldona, who was among the group, felt conflicted, not sure if she should be happy for her first grandson or sad for her second, who was having a hard time. She glanced at Viktor drinking glass after glass of wine at the table beside her and sighed softly. If only Rivana had considered giving him another opportunity, her family would have been much more peaceful now.

Viktor’s eyes never left Rivana, who was walking around the hall, greeting and engaging with the guests. It irked him whenever Azrael bent to whisper something in Rivana’s ear and the way she would smile at him. They laughed and were in their own world, even if they were surrounded by many. It all boiled up his anger. Gulping down another glass, he glared at his grandmother, who had dragged him there, and walked out of the hall.

Amerie, who had been observing him, quickly placed down her glass. Her main mission was to make Rubina and Viktor meet so she could secure a spot in the Hugon family quickly. Even with all the slander and online backlash, Hugon Industries still thrived at the top, and Rubina would have the best future if she got married into it.

"Where are you taking me?" Rubina grumbled, trying to free herself from Amerie’s hold.

"Weren’t you trying to meet him?" Amerie replied, her grip tightening. "I am helping you out," she added, guiding the reluctant Rubina out.

Rubina let the woman drag her out. Her heart raced as they followed closely behind Viktor, hoping to finally get what she had been wishing for all these years.

"Viktor!" Amerie called out, rushing behind the man. As they reached a dark corridor, she quickly grabbed onto his hand and stopped him.

Viktor frowned and turned around, his eyes red with anger. When he saw Amerie and then Rubina not far away, he let out a sigh of frustration. Swatting away his hand, he grumbled, "What is it?"

Amerie gritted her teeth at his behavior. Yes, he had always been rude to her since she was the mistress. But he conveniently forgot that he was also born to a mistress and was no saint, just like Rubina.

Holding back her frustration, she smiled and pulled Rubina close to them. "Ruby wants to talk to you." With that, she patted Rubina’s shoulder and left the place.

"Viktor..." Rubina murmured, looking around to find where he was standing. She took a step closer and tried to reach out to hold his hand.

But much to her surprise, Viktor moved back, his intentions quite clear. "Why are you avoiding my calls?" she questioned in a low voice.

Viktor let out a sigh of frustration. Running a hand through his hair, he glared at the disabled woman, the main cause of all this drama. If she hadn’t seduced him that night before the wedding, Rivana would have been his wife by now.

"Answer me, Viktor," Rubina asked again, trying to reach out for him. "Are you still here?"

"Yes," Viktor curtly replied. "And I have been quite clear that night, Rubina. It was just a one-night stand and would never be anything more than that."

Rubina felt her heart shattering into pieces at his words. "But, don’t you like me?" she asked, recalling how he had made the first move that night. "I thought you wanted to marry me instead of my sister," she added in a low voice.

"Like you?" Viktor let out a dark laugh that echoed through the corridor. "Why would I wish to marry a blind person? It would be such a hassle to take care of you," he added, his words making Rubina break into tears.

With a sigh, he clarified again, "Let me be clear, it was nothing more than a one-night stand. And don’t ever delude yourself."

"But if you marry me, you will still have a chance of fighting for Hugon’s succession, Viktor," Rubina said, stubborn and adamant about winning him. She had always had a crush on Viktor since childhood, even before Rivana, and would not give up on him this easily.

"I still have a chance as long as I win back Rivana. I won’t need your help, Rubina," Viktor curtly replied, his words breaking Rubina even more.

"Do you still love her?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.

"Of course!" Viktor replied without any hesitation. Glancing toward the hall, he added, "And she loves me too."

"But she is already married to your brother!" Rubina retorted, breaking into tears.

Viktor gritted his teeth, frustration boiling within him. Rubina was stating facts, but he wasn’t ready to accept them. With a sigh, he replied, "She did that to keep me at bay. As long as I show my sincere feelings to her, I am sure she will return to me."

Rubina shook her head, unable to even imagine it. But Viktor’s next words broke her completely, "We will be marrying again, and I will take over the Hugons soon. So, stay out of my way." With that, he left, leaving her all alone.

Tears formed in the corners of her eyes, her chest tight with pain. She turned around and stared at Viktor’s back, tears streaming down her cheeks. It was all because of Rivana! She still had some hold over Viktor that he wasn’t willing to forget easily. Her life was now a mess because of her. It was all because of her!

Clenching her fists, Rubina muttered, "I will kill you tonight, Rivana. And I will make sure to definitely get rid of you this time."
