Steel, Guns, and the Industrial Party in Another World-Chapter 683: The Breakout

“Hehe, too late, you’re all too late!”
“The great General Kalem and his warriors have already annihilated your entire weak army!”
“Hahaha!”
The orc before him was incredibly weak, the light in his eyes gradually fading, but the words that came from his mouth were still intensely sarcastic.
Lester pulled his sword from the orc’s body and kicked him to the ground.
The tall body fell limply to the ground, its life completely extinguished.
Austin Klein frowned.
“Although this fellow was spouting nonsense, he gives me a bad feeling.”
“Mount up quickly and go support Her Highness.”
Klein and Lester were leading a force that had quietly left the camp before dawn.
They had traversed winding mountain roads and crossed thorny forests, making a wide circle to finally get behind the orc army.
The orc scouts had a large patrol range, so the journey was both arduous and dangerous.
They were very lucky not to have attracted attention; the enemy’s main force had gone all out to attack the main Ordo army deployed in the valley.
According to the plan, this force would strike directly at the orcs’ rear.
At the entrance to Sunset Valley, they encountered a detachment of enemy scouts tasked with guarding the rear.
The Ordo forces immediately attacked and eliminated them, with only a few managing to escape.
The dying taunts of the enemy made them quicken their pace.
Klein’s bad premonition soon came true. When they arrived at the battlefield, men and horses panting, they were greeted by a hellish scene.
The cavalry’s left wing and the infantry phalanx, composed of local troops from Blackstone, had collapsed. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
The flat ground in the center of the valley was filled with scattered and fleeing Ordo soldiers, embarrassingly including many knights, while the orc light and heavy cavalry pursued them like wolves chasing sheep.
It was an apt metaphor; the disorganized Ordo soldiers were truly like lambs, unable to put up any decent resistance.
The number of orc cavalrymen chasing them was actually not large, yet they slaughtered their seemingly defenseless prey as if it were a game. From their posture, they indeed seemed very relaxed.
“Father in Heaven!”
Klein was so stunned by the sight before him that his jaw dropped. In his heart, he prayed over and over to the Lord of Light that this was just a dream.
Before this, the worst-case scenario he could have imagined was the Ordo army being suppressed by the orc cavalry, but with their basic formation still intact, ready for a pincer attack upon his arrival.
Now, a pincer attack was nothing but a joke.
“Her Highness is over there!”
Lester, beside him, pointed into the distance!
Yes, there was still Princess Catherine.
Klein remembered the most important thing. If the princess of the great Kingdom of Ordo were to die in the war against the orcs, or… be captured… it was simply unimaginable.
Following the direction Lester pointed, Klein saw a group of Ordo soldiers completely surrounded by orc cavalry.
The great banner of the Royal Knights was still flying high within their ranks.
Her Highness should still be safe!
“All troops, hear my command! Break the siege for our comrades immediately!”
This force of fifteen hundred cavalry spurred their horses, charging at full speed toward the besieged Royal Knights.
Kalem immediately spotted this group of uninvited guests and also waved his command flag to dispatch troops to intercept them.
But with the tide of victory already secured, everyone was busy grabbing spoils of war, either looting valuables or capturing routed enemy soldiers who could be taken as slaves.
Although Kalem’s army had won a great victory, it had not escaped the various habits common to armies of this era.
Or rather, it was precisely because they had won that they dared to do so with such confidence.
This led to only scattered, small groups of scouts coming to block Klein’s detachment, which did not pose much of an obstacle to their advance.
As they approached their besieged comrades, Klein could vaguely make out the situation within.
Besides the Royal Knights, there were also many soldiers from the Blackstone Plains, who must have gathered here after being defeated elsewhere.
Klein roared: “Prepare to charge!”
He used almost all the strength in his body.
This Ordo cavalry force reined in their horses and formed a neat, tight formation in an extremely short amount of time.
There were three ranks, with five hundred cavalrymen in each rank.
The orc cavalry besieging the Royal Knights still maintained a high degree of organization. Seeing a human cavalry force charging from their flank, they immediately split off a portion to intercept them.
Klein forced himself to calm down and issued commands in an orderly manner:
“Trot!”
The cavalrymen urged their horses forward at a slow trot, like three moving stone walls, even the dust they kicked up seemed orderly.
“Canter!”
The warhorses began to pick up speed, the sound of their hooves becoming a thunderous roar.
“Gallop!”
The knights extended their weapons forward and spurred their mounts into a full charge. The three “walls” began to deform and spread out, but one could still roughly see the three ranks.
Just as they began their charge, they immediately met the intercepting orc cavalry.
The two forces quickly engaged in close combat. The scene of warhorses colliding at high speed did not happen often; in fact, just before a collision, one of the two riders charging towards each other would often immediately turn their horse to avoid a head-on impact.
The moments of slaughter mostly occurred as the two sides passed each other. The human and orc cavalry inflicted considerable losses on one another. Many unfortunately fell from their horses and were then trampled into mincemeat by hooves.
The besieged Royal Knights still maintained high morale. These knights, their heads full of honor, were mostly from noble families and had received high-intensity martial arts training from a young age. They were skilled in horsemanship, combat, and archery, and with their good armor and equipment, their individual combat prowess was even superior to the enemy’s.
Since being surrounded, they had already repelled countless waves of attacks.
The orcs were temporarily at a loss, only able to loose waves of arrows. The Royal Knights naturally would not sit and wait for death, and returned fire with their own bows and arrows.
“Klein, Lester!”
Catherine, who had been preparing for a breakout and was about to personally lead the vanguard, spotted the flanking detachment that had finally arrived and understood their intention to relieve her.
A surge of joy rose in her heart. She immediately changed her direction of attack, turning towards the relieving force.
Everyone prepared themselves, gripping their weapons tightly.
“Kill!”
With a single command, the bugles sounded.
A large number of warhorses charged forward together. Although they were not in any formation, their charge was still immensely powerful.
On Klein’s side, they also intensified their assault.
The orcs were attacked from two directions, and the encirclement was breached in a moment of surprise.
After a fierce battle, the two royal armies finally linked up, merging into one.
“It seems the enemy is weakest to the northwest. Let’s go that way!”
Catherine immediately agreed with Klein’s suggestion.
Taking advantage of the fact that most of the enemy troops were busy looting and chasing down routed soldiers, the Royal Knights fought as they retreated, finally escaping that hell.
