Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic-Chapter 666 - Doctor and Flame Demon
Chapter 666: Chapter 666 Doctor and Flame Demon
Chapter 666: Chapter 666 Doctor and Flame Demon
“Ever since the incident with Priest Augustus, every time you show up here so early, it gives me a start,”
That was the first thing Dr. Schneider said, holding his forehead, when Shard came to the psychological clinic with Mia in his arms on Friday morning.
“Doctor, that’s a psychological issue, you should treat yourself,”
Shard teased, following the doctor into the study.
“Detective, what is it this time? You couldn’t be here this early just for a walk, could you?”
“Of course not, I’ve come to inquire about demons.”
As Shard spoke, he shut the door of the study, and the doctor frowned, leaning on the desk:
“Just the other day you asked me what would happen if someone drank demon blood, and now you want information on demons. Detective, don’t get involved with demons as much as I have, it’s very dangerous.”
“It’s just an accident this time, Doctor; listen to me.”
Shard, holding Mia who had just been fed and was lively, sat down on the sofa and then gave the doctor a brief account of how he had obtained the Demon Hunting Seal. He only went into detail about what he’d seen inside Sicarl Mountain the night before, which left the doctor surprised, even exceedingly so:
“How do you always come across such strange things?”
“Doctor, what I saw yesterday, was it an exotic species demon, or was it an Evil Spirit Demon from the Third Era?”
“Demon” itself is only a type of powerful exotic creature, while so-called “Evil Spirit Demons” are terrible and twisted beings born in the Third Era. The latter originally had no physical form, but from a certain period in the Third Era, they began to appear in physical form by mimicking the appearance of exotic species demons. Therefore, the word “demon” usually refers to both entities, and the methods of fighting demons can affect both types of “demons.”
Even the Circle Sorcerer’s academic community agrees that in today’s Sixth Era, one could consider exotic species demons and the Evil Spirits from the Third Era to be the same kind of being.

“Listening to your description, I think it’s both. It’s an Evil Spirit Demon that mimicked an exotic species demon, and it’s quite notorious, yes, the Arsonist Sophix.”
The doctor said, covering his face:
“Shard, you’ve really brought a big surprise this time.”
Rubbing his face, the doctor continued:
“Its appearance is that of a very famous exotic species demon, you’ll probably learn about this dangerous species in the registry when you reach third grade. Naming this kind of demon is complicated, but it has a well-known nickname, which is mentioned in the heroic epics of ordinary people.”
“What’s the nickname?”
“Flame Demon.”
Seeing Shard holding the cat with a look of great fear, the doctor quickly added:
“Don’t worry, the ‘Ancient Flame Demon’ mentioned in legends and bards’ epics is not the same. According to your description, the one you encountered is just a regular one in the appearance of a Flame Demon, and this Evil Spirit itself, though ancient, is far less than Human Pus. It was even severely wounded and still sealed.”
“Flame Demon… So what level of Circle Sorcerer is needed to deal with a normal Flame Demon?”
Shard asked cautiously, and the doctor thought for a moment:
“At least a High Ring, and also a weapon with special traits. The Evil Spirit Demon you encountered is almost unkillable, and the most effective way to deal with them is sealing. I’ve heard that Zaras Literary Academy has sealed away many demons.”
Shard pondered for a moment:
“So you mean, it’s best not to touch that sword and not to disturb the seal set by a High Ring Sorcerer eight hundred years ago?”
“No, that’s a Relic-level weapon; isn’t it too much of a pity to give up on it?”
The doctor asked in confusion:
“Detective, are you not interested in such Relics?”
“But I’m not sure if I could successfully deal with it. Although I have friends who are High Ring Sorcerers at Midshire Fort, without that sword, they might not be able to seal the demon again. Rather than risk the Flame Demon escaping, it’s better to let it rest quietly in the mountains. Midshire Fort is chaotic enough right now… Maybe I’ll consider it once I become a High Ring Sorcerer.”
“Oh, so that’s how you see it.”
The doctor waved his hand and said with a smile:
“For others, sealing it would be the best choice, but for me, wouldn’t it be better to ‘devour’ it while it’s sealed? Based on your description, it can’t even move too far away from that bonfire, otherwise, you wouldn’t have been able to retreat unharmed last night.”
“Doctor, although it’s sealed, it’s not powerless like Human Pus.”
Shard reminded him.
“No worries, if it were a complete Evil Spirit Demon, I would advise you to never approach the area. But dealing with a demon in such a condition is my specialty.”
Dr. Schneider nodded confidently; Shard chose to trust the doctor:
“Fine, I’ll go buy you a train ticket to Midshire Fort. Do you prefer a window seat, doctor, or… never mind, let’s just go with first-class, otherwise the journey will be very exhausting.”
Just as he was about to get up and leave, he was immediately stopped by the doctor:
“Hold on, traveling back and forth would take at least half a month. As the head of the group, I can’t leave for that long without applying. It wouldn’t be a big deal if it went unnoticed, but it would be trouble if discovered.”
But the doctor couldn’t apply to the Academy to go to Midshire Fort either, as the fort now involved the third Chosen One, and without a legitimate reason, the Academy would not approve his request.
“What should we do then?”
“If long-distance travel isn’t an option, then short-distance will be. Shard, haven’t you used Academy-provided Relics to instantly travel from my place to Saint Byrons before?”
“Are you talking about the ‘Damaged Old World Map’?”
That Relic was quite dangerous and had always been kept in Saint Byrons.
“Exactly, while we don’t have that Relic on hand, we could lower our standards a bit. I don’t need to stay in Midshire Fort for long, just a few minutes would suffice. And lucky for us, Tobesk happens to have a Relic capable of facilitating short-time long-distance space transfer.”
The doctor’s face was full of smiles, and it seemed to him that encountering a demon was a good thing:
“At Zaras Literary Academy’s Correspondence Group, at least as of last spring, it was still with them. I think if I go to borrow it, they should be willing to lend it to me. Today is Thursday, let me think… I’ll borrow it tomorrow, and when we meet here on Saturday afternoon, I’ll tell you the result. If I can’t get it, then we’ll come up with another plan. There’s such a good opportunity for me to devour another demon; Shard, I actually care about this more than you do.”
“Alright, let’s agree on this for now.”
Shard prepared to take his leave, but then remembered something:
“I plan to visit Priest Augustus in Midshire Fort on Sunday; we haven’t seen each other since he gave me the Arcane Technique materials last time. Doctor, is there anything you need me to pass on to the priest?”
“Just tell Priest Augustus to stay safe.”
The doctor gestured, twisting his neck:
“I originally thought Tobesk would be dangerous enough this summer. I didn’t expect Midshire Fort to also have so much going on. Tell Priest Augustus to be careful, and you too, don’t wander into the mountains unnecessarily; I’m afraid you might encounter even stranger things.”
