Chapter 77: Expectations vs Reality

"Motherfucker, why did you do that?!"

Everyone fell silent as Kyle shouted at the top of his lungs. Their gazes shifted between the one who yelled and the one at whom the curse was aimed.

Ethan blinked in surprise before getting up. "What happened? What did I do?" he asked, acting innocent, his face painted with the kindness of a saint.

Kyle stomped toward him. "You fucking locked me in the cubicle! How are you going to explain that?!"

"Wait a second. What is happening here?" a professor interrupted from behind, having heard the commotion from outside.

Kyle turned sharply toward him. "He locked me in the bathroom, Professor. I hope you won’t overlook this as just a prank."

Ethan’s eyes widened. "What are you saying, classmate Kyle? Why would I do something like that?"

"Yeah. Are you sure you didn’t lock yourself in or something?" another student added, only fueling Kyle’s anger.

With a growl, Kyle spat, "Don’t fuck with me. I saw it clearly. It was this asshole!" He advanced toward Ethan, only for the professor to stop him with a hand on his shoulder before speaking.

"Kyle... I’ve seen the cubicles. There was no way to lock the door from the outside. What are you even talking about?"

Kyle was taken aback. He hadn’t expected the teacher to side with Ethan.

Someone from the students spoke up, "You sure you didn’t get caught peeping into the girls’ washroom and now venting your frustration here?"

Kyle glowered. "Shut up. This bastard deformed the knob with heat, leaving me no way to escape."

Ethan tilted his head. "Kyle... do you see me walking around with a welding machine?"

That earned a few chuckles and snorts, pushing Kyle further into frustration.

Ethan cast a subtle glance to the side and spotted Amanda standing there with a conflicted expression. She wanted to help Kyle, but he had dug himself into such a deep hole that pulling him out now seemed impossible.

A grin crept onto Ethan’s face as he watched Kyle get cornered, helpless, surrounded by laughter and mockery.

....

’Can’t wait to see that,’ Ethan muttered inwardly as he anticipated how things would unfold once Kyle returned.

Most of the students had already taken their seats. He arrived just in time to find the seat beside Layena empty and quickly slipped into it.

Now, when the drama unfolded, she would see exactly what kind of bastard Kyle was and keep her distance from him in the future.

Ethan might come off as immature and impatient at times, but when it came to setting traps, he never lost his composure.

That was why he made sure a teacher personally checked the bathroom, giving him a reliable witness. And back there, he had used just enough magic to weakly jam the door.

A few hard slams from the other side would be enough to break it, so there was no doubt Kyle would escape and react exactly as planned.

And when that happened... Ethan knew how fast words spread and how quickly Kyle would become the new joke of the third year.

On the other side, Amanda had been growing increasingly nervous when she couldn’t find Kyle anywhere.

She had gone to the convenience store to grab something for him since he looked low on energy that morning. But when she returned, he was gone.

She searched through the shops and even asked a few people, but no one had any idea where he could be.

Finally, she decided to approach the one person she had been hating the most since morning.

Stopping beside Ethan’s seat, she called, "Layena."

The girl turned, her mouth moving as she chewed on a piece of candy, humming in response.

Ethan glanced at Amanda as well. Her expression already told him what she was about to ask.

Right on cue, Amanda said, "Have you seen Kyle?"

Layena tilted her head, thinking for a moment before replying, "Last I saw, he was heading toward the restroom."

Amanda frowned. She had already considered that. But when she asked a guy who had just come out of the restroom, he said there was no one inside.

Was he lying... or was Kyle in danger?

Just then, "Ah, here he is," Ethan said, barely containing his excitement as he spotted the familiar green-haired boy stepping onto the bus.

A slow grin crept across his face. Come on... dance for me. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Amanda turned instantly and rushed toward him. "Kyle, where were you? Are you okay?" she asked in a hurry.

Kyle didn’t answer. He walked straight past her and headed toward Ethan’s seat.

The blond boy quickly put on his most innocent expression, ready to defend himself.

By now, Kyle’s presence had already drawn half the students’ attention. Their chatter faded as an uneasy silence settled in, everyone sensing what was about to happen.

Kyle stopped in front of Ethan and stared at him without a word.

Ethan frowned slightly. "Is there... wha—"

He didn’t get to finish.

Kyle’s hand shot forward, grabbing a fistful of his golden hair. In the same motion, he drove his knee upward, smashing it straight into Ethan’s face.

TRNG

The impact rang through his skull. His vision blurred as his head snapped back. Warm liquid streamed from his nose while his body swayed weakly in the seat.

Many students gasped or let out low "ooohs" at the sudden shift in atmosphere.

While Ethan was still recovering, one of his friends shot up from his seat and charged. "You fucker—"

Before the punch could land, Kyle tilted his body. The fist grazed past him. In the same instant, Kyle’s hand snapped around the attacker’s throat. Despite the cramped space of the bus, he lifted the guy clean off the ground and slammed him down with a heavy thud.

"Agh!" the boy groaned, his head ringing.

The students began backing away, unsettled by a side of Kyle they had never seen before.

Ethan had recovered enough to strike from behind.

"You dare hit me?!" he shouted, wrapping his arms around Kyle’s torso, trying to drag him down and crush him underfoot.

But Kyle didn’t fall.

He didn’t even move.

Taller, broader, and recently bulked up, Kyle stood firm. His strength was on an entirely different level compared to Ethan without magic.

Kyle glanced over his shoulder, locking eyes with Ethan’s widened gaze. Then, slowly, he slipped his fingers into Ethan’s grip and pried his hands off, forcing them apart despite the resistance.

Without letting go, Kyle turned to face him fully and began twisting Ethan’s arms with brutal strength.

Ethan groaned in pain. How is he this strong?!

Just as he was about to call upon Genesis and retaliate, a voice cut through the tension. "Stop, you two."

Kyle paused and turned his head. Layena stood there, a faint plea in her eyes.

His gaze shifted to Amanda, who looked both worried and tense, as if ready to take down Ethan the moment he tried anything.

Kyle looked back down at Ethan before muttering, "Stop meddling with me... or I won’t stop next time."

He released him. Ethan nearly collapsed to the ground.

Turning away, Kyle stepped over the fallen student and walked to the back, taking a seat on the last row.

His day was ruined.
