Starting with a Family System to Become an Immortal Official-Chapter 109: The Four Regions
The Lower Heaven Realm.
It was a vast, majestic world.
So grand it could almost be called endless.
A sacred realm beyond the world.
Unmoving and majestic mountains floated in the empty sky like drifting islands.
Rivers made of starlight flowed through the heavens to shine softly as they twisted and turned.
The spiritual qi in the air was so dense that it gathered into tiny droplets that formed sparkling dew.
It stretched across the infinite reaches of the lower cultivation cosmos, divided and linked to the countless mortal worlds below by the boundless Eastern Sea.
This spiritual sea governed the flow of time between the Lower Heaven Realm and the Mortal Realm. Crossing it wasn’t a matter of mere distance, but of time itself. The Eastern Sea’s temporal expanse was infinite... so any cultivator who dared fly across without approved ascension papers would be doomed to wander the endless void of time until they turned to cosmic dust.
Beyond the Eastern Sea was the first sight.
Four colossal floating landmasses, each millions of times larger than any planet.
They bathed in a resplendent rainbow light.
The spiritual qi was so dense it defied description.
They were called the Four Regions!
Arranged like an archipelago yet vastly separate, these four landmasses formed the major states of the Lower Heaven Realm.
To the north lay the Heaven World State.
To the south, the Demon World State.
To the west, the almost-isolated Ancient World State.
And at the center—sprawling enough to bridge north and south while stretching across the eastern wings—stood the Central World State, often called the Great World State due to its overwhelming size and importance.
It served as the intermediary between Heaven and Demon Worlds. Immortal officials stationed there ensured few wars erupted between the two clashing powers.
Thanks to its authority, the Great World State became the unrivaled hub for events and business.
Powerful families and cultivation clans from all Four Regions flocked here.
Calling it the central hub that welcomed everyone seemed fitting.
The Great World State was ruled by the Holy Court and the four supreme immortal families.
[Xu, Feng, Bai, and Gu]
Each controlled one of the five domains that made up the Central World State.
And their family heads were titled City Lords.
And right now, one of those great City Lords was on the verge of losing his mind.
The highest immortal palace of Immortal Tortoise City.
Family elders huddled in corners while servants hid behind pillars with pale faces.
Xu Wenliang stood before City Lord Xu Wanshan as he explained nervously.
"Young lord, releasing Hai Tung Wan should have been more than enough to crush that Li Qingmu. But... the boy’s grasp of water cultivation surpassed even that elite monster. It made things easier for him. If not for that, he would’ve died. It was just dumb luck, you see."
City Lord Xu took a deep breath.
"I see."
He wiped sweat from his forehead.
"Well... that’s not too bad. At least thanks to Xu Lingxi’s efforts in the first phase, Li Qingmu got no pill bottles so that means failed the exams anyway."
The palace fell deathly quiet.
Xu Wenliang shot a stink-eye at a lesser elder which forced the man to speak.
The old elder gulped.
"Well... Li Qingmu..."
He couldn’t continue.
Another elder jumped in feverishly.
"Li Qingmu... was rewarded with a Holy Court Attendant position! He’s been invited to join the Exalted Sage School by Master Wen Jiuling himself to cultivate the Nine Celestial Transformations! He’s now the fastest person ever to pass the immortal official exams!"
Xu Wanshan went silent.
His body visibly shook.
Everyone took several steps back.
The City Lord took a deep breath and spoke calmly.
"Anyone who isn’t a main branch elder—leave. Now."
They have eyes but cannot see Mount Taishan.
Many elders fled instantly.
Even some main branch members ran with them.
The hall emptied.
Then Xu Wanshan exploded.
"ARE YOU MAD!?"
He screamed at the top of his lungs as he cursed their stupidity in vivid detail.
"This is an ant who killed Lady Blackfang, seduced two of my future dao companions, and you idiots didn’t think to make sure he failed no matter what? You didn’t stop him from ascending—you made his path easier! Now that little scum is going to cultivate under Master Wen Jiuling and learn the Nine Celestial Transformations!"
Furniture shattered as he raged.
This man was smashing everything in sight.
Xu Wenliang kept his head down, saying nothing.
Xu Wanshan roared on.
"If that boy masters that inheritance, he’ll burn our sons’ souls for eternity and turn our daughters into cauldrons or are you not bothered!?"
One elder quickly stammered.
"But Li Qingmu is a nobody with no background—"
Xu Wanshan cut him off.
"A nobody who slept with two women possessing sacred physiques and killed an elite monster with his Core Formation cultivation! Or did you forget?"
The elder apologized hastily.
"This one... forgot."
Xu Wanshan slammed a hand on the table.
"Xu Wenliang just said it—didn’t you all hear? Or are you now a goldfish? Did centuries meditating in a cave shrink your brain? You lot don’t take a junior seriously until he has his hands around our necks!"
He collapsed back onto his throne, sighing heavily.
"I have Ancestor Realm cultivation, yet you fools make me stress over a lower-world ant simply because you’re too incompetent to handle him. If my sweet and gentle Feng Ruoxue hears this, she’ll be furious with me."
He held his head in his hands.
"What do I do..."
He looked utterly hopeless.
"If you’d at least seriously injured the boy—even if it didn’t kill him—it would’ve bought time. Time to think of a way to kill him before he reaches the Four Regions. And also time to wipe out you idiots myself!"
He stared at the carpeted floor and sighed again.
The other elders exchanged confused glances. Why was their City Lord so terrified of Li Qingmu coming here? Sure, the boy had Song family connections—killing him openly would bring repercussions—but why such fear? Even if Li Qingmu knew about the Xu family’s plans for sacred body wielders like Chen Yuxuan and Chen Yuling, or that Lady Blackfang was sent to assassinate him, who would believe a nobody over a City Lord and prospective governor like Xu Wanshan?
No one dared ask. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Xu Wenliang watched calmly.
But he was boiling with utter irritation inside.
『I’m the oldest in this family and greatly respected by the prime ancestors. I should be the next head. Yet they gave it to this useless Xu Wanshan, who cares only about pleasing Feng Ruoxue. That beauty doesn’t even love this fool—she married him for convenience. She’s in love with me. One of the top fairies in the Four Regions and the daughter of a supreme power in the Central World State would never fall in love with a failure like Xu Wanshan!』
If he could kill the young man on the spot he would.
But the gap in their power was too much.
And he didn’t want to upset Feng Ruoxue.
That woman is the only light of his life.
『With my Fire and Wood soul fragments, once I claim Metal and Water, I’ll achieve Heavenly Nascent Soul and take my rightful place as Xu family head!』
It was a matter of patience.
He grinned madly inside.
Xu Wanshan pointed at him.
"You."
Xu Wenliang bowed his head.
"What do you need?"
"Get me some water."
The old man swallowed his pride and smiled warmly.
"Of course, Family Head."
He walked away with venom in his veins.
『Let the boy come. I’ll kill that little daughter of his, snatch the Water soul fragment. Then my plans advance. Useless dog Wanshan and the entire Xu family had better fear what’s coming in the years ahead.』
The Four Regions was ready for "his" arrival.
