Starting from Robinson Crusoe-Chapter 100 - 36: Dog and Cat (Part 3)
But looking at Lai Fu's expectant eyes, he felt a surge of guilt.
After all, it was Lai Fu who discovered the bird's nest. Without it, no one would be eating these boiled bird eggs.
Moreover, trying to negotiate with Lai Fu, this "little mute", with any forceful logic would leave him feeling guilty.
As he was struggling internally, Lai Fu suddenly craned its head forward, resting its chin on Chen Zhou's thigh, eyebrows raised, looking up pitifully into its owner's face.
Chen Zhou couldn't withstand such a trick.
The little bit of guilt in his heart skyrocketed to the peak, and he had no choice but to surrender.
"Alright, alright, stop looking at me with those eyes. We'll split it fifty-fifty, okay,"
Chen Zhou took out three bird eggs and waved them in front of Lai Fu, switching to a stern tone.
"Sit!"
Lai Fu immediately tucked in its head, sat straight on the ground, gently wagging its tail, waiting for its owner's feeding as usual.
From a once bewildered little dog that didn't understand Mandarin to now an obedient and reliable hunting assistant, it had become an indispensable part of Chen Zhou's life.
"Good dog!"
Praising Lai Fu, Chen Zhou peeled off the eggshell and tossed it into the air.
Ka!
Lai Fu fixated on the bird egg, quickly leaping up to swallow it down its stomach.
"You are just like Zhu Bajie eating ginseng fruit, wasting good stuff.
Can't you chew?"
Peeled another bird egg and brought it to Lai Fu's mouth.
Lai Fu pretended to chew it twice, but soon enough swallowed it again.
"This is the last one, the remaining one's mine!"
Reminding Lai Fu, Chen Zhou peeled the final bird egg, placed it in his palm, and offered it to the dog.
Lai Fu licked Chen Zhou's hand full of saliva in a pleasing manner, while also rolling the bird egg into its mouth, wagging its tail happily, staring at the last bird egg in the bowl without blinking, wanting more.
"NO~"
He firmly pushed away Lai Fu's dog head, ignoring its puzzled gaze.
Chen Zhou picked up the bird egg in the bowl, just finished peeling it, and before he could eat it, Xiao Huihui shamelessly ran over.
Meow~
When it comes to being cute, Xiao Huihui's skills are far more skillful and varied than Lai Fu's.
It's enough to make Lai Fu spend half its life learning the way it meows cutely.
If that doesn't work, it'll squint to express love, purring to make people happy.
Or jump onto Chen Zhou's lap, "wiping the face" of its master with its tail, while using its little paws to massage.
Don't be fooled that it's a tomcat; when it really shows these tricks, it's more charming than a female cat.
"Well, giving one is giving, two is giving.
Three bird eggs are all given away; being stingy with the last one would only make them look down on me."
With a sigh, Chen Zhou placed the last bird egg in front of Xiao Huihui.
Being a good person to the end, Chen Zhou even blocked Lai Fu who was trying to stretch its head to snatch, earnestly advising.
"Hui Hui, you can't eat my things for nothing.
When the new house is built, after we move in, you'd better catch more mice to protect our grain storage!
If those mice eat up all the seeds, in the future, we'd only rely on fish, mutton, and bird eggs to survive."
At this point, Chen Zhou scratched his head.
"Damn, how come it feels like without grain, their lives are even happier?"
Meow~
Xiao Huihui held the bird egg, gave Lai Fu a sidelong glance, and carried it happily to a corner of the cave to eat.
Whether its meow was a response to him or a warning to Lai Fu was unclear, patting its belly filled with only two bird eggs, Chen Zhou reluctantly took out a hard flatbread and cold milk tea, continuing his lunch.
