Starting from a Bar to Sign Internet Celebrities-Chapter 89 - 87: The Boss Is Still the Ideas Man
...
Once things quieted down, Chen Jincheng pulled out his phone to check the ad performance leaderboard. Yinyin’s video had already racked up 5 million likes, earning 3 million in ad revenue and securing the top spot.
Sister Feiye’s seven videos came in second with 2.8 million.
The numbers were a bit embarrassing for Sister Feiye; after all, her seven videos couldn’t even beat one. A quick look at her comment section told the same story.
’Sister Feiye must be feeling pretty awkward right now.’
Still, it was a testament to the strength of his company, Second-Life Star.
He checked Yinyin’s video again. The likes were still climbing, but after refreshing a few times, he could tell the hype was mostly spent. It wasn’t going to break 6 million and earn Second-Life Star another 500,000.
Seeing him immediately check on Yinyin’s video right after they had finished, Jiang Xiaobai pouted. "You finish making love to a girl, then you immediately ignore her and start watching videos of other women. What a scumbag!"
Chen Jincheng chuckled and gave her ass a hard smack. "Don’t be so passive-aggressive. Hurry up and get dressed. I’m going to shoot a video for you."
Hearing this, the girl’s mood instantly brightened. She threw her arms around his neck. "You’re the best!"
"Aren’t I a scumbag?" Chen Jincheng retorted.
"Even if you are, you’re the best one." She didn’t care about that, asking excitedly, "What kind of video are we going to shoot?"
"A little video," Chen Jincheng said playfully.
"You’re impossible!" Annoyed by his teasing, Jiang Xiaobai gave his shoulder a sharp bite. She didn’t dare use too much force, though, which only made it more exciting for Chen Jincheng.
After teasing her a little more, Chen Jincheng said, "First, go change into some really frumpy pajamas. I’m going to film a new kind of transformation video for you today!"
"Okay!" Jiang Xiaobai hopped up decisively and went to her closet, pulling out a set of incredibly frumpy pajamas.
She’d never worn them before. It was a classic case of getting ripped off online—the kind where the "Expectation vs. Reality" pictures are worlds apart. She had been planning to throw them out, but now it seemed they had a use after all.
"Are these pajamas frumpy enough for you? What’s next?" Jiang Xiaobai ran up to him and asked.
Chen Jincheng was already filming with his phone. "Next, change into your sexiest outfits. With each one, I want you to make a shooting gesture. Like this—you can use two hands, or just one."
As he spoke, he demonstrated the moves for Jiang Xiaobai. "Feel free to improvise, too. Add some seductive wiggles and twists—as long as the movements look good."
The video he planned to shoot for Jiang Xiaobai was a "gunshot transition" challenge. It was a popular transformation trend from the year 2020 in his previous world. While it never produced a truly massive viral hit, plenty of videos using the format had surpassed one or two million likes.
Influencers with an established fanbase, in particular, could easily get over a million likes with it. It was a solid concept.
Without a trend like this, even an influencer with tens of millions of followers would be lucky to get one or two hundred thousand likes on a regular video.
So, this concept was the perfect "bonus" to reward Jiang Xiaobai with.
The girl was already rummaging through her closet, carefully selecting a few of what she considered her sexiest outfits. Then, she started changing right in front of Chen Jincheng without the slightest hesitation.
She even struck a few deliberate poses for him, as if to say, ’I’m putting on a show just for you.’
The shoot didn’t take long. Once Chen Jincheng had all the footage he needed, he sent the clips over to Xiaoliao with a message: edit it to track 67 from the music library, paying special attention to syncing the transitions to the beat.
「Second-Life Star.」
Xiaoliao and Xiaohai arrived at the office together. They had both joined Chen Jincheng’s team at the same time back when it was still small, and they’d been roommates ever since.
Once at the company, they headed straight for the editing department. Inside, four other editors were already hard at work, either cutting videos for the influencers’ lifestyle channels or analyzing online data.
The staff all greeted their two managers as they walked in.
Xiaoliao had just sat down when he received the footage and editing instructions from the boss. "Wow, the boss was out shooting a video for Xiaobai first thing in the morning," he remarked.
Xiaohai leaned over. Seeing the clips Xiaoliao had opened, he teased, "That’s clearly Xiaobai’s bedroom. You sure the boss went over *this morning*?"
The two of them exchanged a knowing glance.
With a playboy like their boss and a company full of beautiful influencers, they’d find it stranger if he *wasn’t* messing around with a few of them.
"Damn, Xiaobai’s outfits are seriously sexy. Wonder if she changed in front of the boss," Xiaoliao joked. He then opened the company’s music library, found track 67, and after listening to it once, he knew exactly how to cut the video.
’To be honest, he really had to admire the boss. The man had a knack for finding music for their library. No matter how bizarre a track seemed, it always ended up being useful for something.’
’If anyone else, including himself, just listened to these tracks on their own, they wouldn’t think much of them. But somehow, whenever the boss shot a video for one of his concepts and paired it with one of these songs, everything just clicked.’
’While everyone else was wracking their brains for new video ideas, the boss probably had an endless supply of templates ready to go in his head.’
’How else could he have curated a music library with hundreds of tracks, and still be adding more all the time?’
While Xiaoliao was editing the video, Sister Hong came in. Seeing that he was busy, she turned to Xiaohai. "Xiaohai, post an announcement on the official Second-Life Star account celebrating Yinyin’s ad video breaking five million likes."
"Got it, Sister Hong," Xiaohai nodded.
The official Second-Life Star account was the company’s public face, but it didn’t have a huge following yet. Still, it was the right place to post celebratory announcements like this.
Sister Hong then glanced at Xiaoliao’s screen. "Is that the video the boss shot for Xiaobai?"
"Yep!" Xiaoliao nodded. "A new transformation video. The pacing is great, and the quality is solid. When it comes to concepts, you’ve got to hand it to the boss. He’s completely reinvented the transformation genre."
Sister Hong nodded in agreement. Ever since the pajama transformation video came out, Tiao Yin had been flooded with similar series, but most of them just copied the boss’s format. It was the same thing with the stocking transformation trend.
But while everyone else was busy copying him, the boss was already rolling out the next new thing.
’With the quality of this new video, people are going to start copying it all over again.’
Just as Sister Hong was lost in thought, an assistant rushed in. "Sister Hong, that influencer, Sister Feiye... she sent an inquiry to Second-Life Star. It says it requires your personal attention."
"???" Sister Hong was baffled. ’They were just thoroughly trounced by Second-Life Star, so why on earth are they reaching out now?’
