Standing Next To You-Chapter 59: A memory of the past: The Dance
Chapter 59: A memory of the past: The Dance
The teacher was discussing at the front while Bei Sangyun sneakily opened the bread and smelled it.
The smell of milk and cheese reached her nose. Her stomach grumbled, and Bei Sangyun could not help but have a little bit of expectation.
She took a bite; however, it was still the same muddy-like flavor. When she chewed it in her mouth, even the fragrant smell disappeared.
Bei Sangyun totally lost her appetite.
She put down the bread and drank the juice so she could swallow the rest from her mouth. After pushing the bread down her throat, she felt much better.
Bei Sangyun forced herself to finish the rest of the bread in a few bites. She could not eat it in pleasure, but it could at least put something in her stomach. At least her hunger would alleviate. After eating the bread quickly, Bei Sangyun laid down and took a nap at her desk under the helpless gaze of the teacher.
Fei Chuan, who was taking notes, glanced at her. He thought he was hearing things when he heard the sound of her grumbling stomach. But after hearing it multiple times, he was sure of it. Was the great tyrant not having a proper breakfast?
To think the great tyrant would starve herself and be satisfied with one piece of bread.
He had one box of cookies in his bag that Grandma Pei baked for him. Grandma Pei had baked a lot yesterday with the purpose of sharing them with his classmates.
’Make sure to share some with your friend as well. I hope that little girl still likes them.’
Fei Chuan could only smile at that time, but he inwardly apologized to Grandma Pei. There was no way he could share, nor did he have the willingness to share them with other people, specifically with Bei Sangyun.
Fei Chuan’s gaze went to the plastic containing the milk and chocolate bread on Bei Sangyun’s desk.
His gaze darkened.
Especially since they weren’t friends.
Fei Chuan scoffed and went back to writing.

"Don’t tell me you’re not good at dancing, that’s why you keep rejecting everyone? To think the great Bei Sangyun would have such poor dancing skills—Ah, it makes sense since you might not have learned the etiquette for dancing yet. After all, it is taught at a young age."
"Mr. Fei, you don’t have to compare your experience to mine since we don’t have the same past. But if you really want to compare, between the two of us, you should be the one who is the most lacking. Didn’t you grow up in the countryside before? They might not have taught you any dancing etiquette for this kind of event."
"Wow, how did you take the words out of my mouth, Ms. Bei? You are the one who said not to compare experiences, but it seems you are unknowingly doing that." The man smiled, causing the ladies who were gossiping around them to gawk at him. freewebnoveℓ.com
Bei Sangyun narrowed her eyes irritably. This man clearly knows what words to say to make her annoyed.
"Shut your mouth if you don’t know what you are saying. Between the two of us, you are the one who doesn’t know how to rhythm your steps." Bei Sangyun replied with her patience thinning.
"You speak as if you have seen me dancing."
"Of course, you danced so terribly back in high school that no one was interested in partnering with you."
The smile on Fei Chuan’s face disappeared. "You seem to have forgotten some details back then. How could you forget...?" Fei Chuan paused then shook his head. "Well, what should I expect from you?"
Bei Sangyun twirled the wine glass in her hand as she sneered at the handsome man in front of her. She had no idea what he was talking about and she did not care about it one bit.
"There’s no need for me to remember unimportant events. But watching your petty dance back then with no partner was truly a sight to see."
Fei Chuan narrowed his eyes, there was anger in his gaze. "Unimportant events...?" His words trailed off. Then he suddenly laughed like a madman. But despite the coldness in his laughter, his laugh carried an alluring charm.
"Right. You should be like this." His annoying smirk returned. "But don’t worry, my leg is all fine now."
He offered his hand once again. "There’s actually one way to prove this. Unless you are not confident in your skills, you can reject me."
The surrounding people murmured. Their whispered voices were actually loud and unrestrained.
"I haven’t seen Ms. Bei dance before. Could it be that she really hasn’t learned the etiquette for dancing?"
"They seem to know each other’s past. I have heard that Ms. Bei is originally an illegitimate daughter. There was a ruckus in the Lin family back then..."
"Shh. Don’t mention the Lin family anymore. It’s the Bei family now."
"Mr. Fei actually grew up in the countryside? I have never heard this."
"Mr. Fei is so mysterious. He is handsome and charming. Why he is so caught up with the likes of that witch?"
"I am more interested in their high school life. They were in the same class. Too bad though, I can’t get enough information since all their batchmates did not want to speak of the past."
"What kind of grudge do these two have to always gnaw at each other like this whenever they see each other?"
Bei Sangyun really wanted to slap that hand of his and reject him arrogantly. She did not see any benefits or reason for dancing with him. It was just a waste of time.
However, his provoking stare and challenging words made her irk.
It seemed like she was back to her young self who wanted to prove that she was better than him.
Bei Sangyun put down the wine and gracefully accepted his hand.
"Fine. Let’s see who is speaking the truth, then."
Everyone stopped dancing on the platform and gave the center of the ballroom to them. The orchestra played another classical song.
At the center, Fei Chuan held Bei Sangyun’s back without warning, causing the latter to jump inwardly in surprise. Bei Sangyun was wearing a black backless gown. Fei Chuan’s hot palm met her cold skin.
"What’s the matter? Are you losing your confidence?" The man leaned down to her ear and whispered using his magnetic voice. There seemed to be no distance between them, with the posture as if Fei Chuan was hugging Bei Sangyun intimately.
The onlookers gasped in surprise, their eyes twinkling with the desire for gossip.
Bei Sangyun narrowed her eyes. She stepped closer and hugged his shoulder. This movement made her chest meet his.
Fei Chuan had never been this close with other women. He was startled and was about to step back from this intimate position, but Bei Sangyun held his shoulder tightly. "Who’s losing confidence now? The orchestra started playing."
Fei Chuan stopped his movement and looked back at Bei Sangyun. Their gazes met at such a close distance.
Bei Sangyun could practically see and count Fei Chuan’s long lashes. For a man with broad shoulders and a tall stature, his eyes, which were a bit slanted at the end, were too pretty for his figure.
If he stopped sneering irritatingly, he might have really passed as a beautiful, gentle prince charming.
An irritating smile blossomed on Fei Chuan’s face, making those pair of eyes appear flirtatious. Fei Chuan glided on the floor, and Bei Sangyun followed his movements.
"Catch up with me, then." His movements weren’t gentle but rough and bold. Still, the elegance and sophistication mirrored in his movements caused the ladies around them to look at him dreamily.
Bei Sangyun scoffed and she matched his steps. They glided across the floor, their movements a symphony of grace and harmony. His strong arm cradled her back while their other hands intertwined in a tight clasp. The couple was bathed in the soft glow of crystal chandeliers above their heads.
Their seamless hypnotic cadence enchanted the audience. They were evenly matched. As if this couple were birthed by the heavens to be destined for each other. They twirled, spun, and dipped, with matching elegance.
Only the two people dancing across the dance floor knew what kind of battle they were having as they stared provocatively into each other’s eyes.
It was the dance of a heartless woman and her own grim reaper....
