Chapter 147: CH 147: Howard’s Big Announcement (Part 2)
"You don’t have to worry. You will be protected and catered for," Howard promised, his tone reassuring. "All you have to do is get to the borders of every main city, and my men will pick you up." The crowd’s minds were racing with the possibilities, and some people were already thinking about making their way to the city borders.
"But there’s something to note before you can be picked," Howard added, his voice firm. "You must have a blackstone mark on your arm. If you don’t, then it means you don’t have the same powers as me, and with that, you’re not a member of my faction."
The crowd’s eyes scanned their own arms, as they searched for the mark, as for those with their entire arms tattooed, they were trying so hard to find the mark. While others who already have powers, and knew they had no mark on their arms, just continued listening to the announcement.
"And lastly, my faction is called the Dauntless faction," Howard declared, his voice filled with pride. "I have just taken a step into helping a certain percent of humans to survive," he said, his tone hinting at the challenges ahead. "I hope everyone becomes responsible," he added, his words carrying a sense of warning.
The crowd’s reactions were mixed, some people nodding in agreement, while others looked on with concern. "Also, since the military and the government are no longer functioning," Howard continued, his voice taking on a more serious tone, "I will be making a big announcement."
"From now on, I’ll become the head of this new nation. I hereby nominate myself as the world leader." The words dropped like a bombshell, and the crowd’s reactions were immediate. Some people looked stunned, while others seemed to be processing the implications.
"Every decision about earth will now be made by me," Howard declared, his voice firm and authoritative. "Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some certain matters to attend to. Peace," he said, displaying the sign of peace with his hand. The screen flickered, and then suddenly went out, plunging the world into darkness once again. The crowd was left in stunned silence, wondering what the future held under the leadership of Howard Gray and the Dauntless faction.
"Is this what Exus is planning to do?" Dave thought, his mind racing with the implications of Howard’s announcement. The more he thought about it, the more it seemed evident that this was the second human in possession of Exus’ powers.
"The whole idea of trying to help people was just a coverup beneath the main goal, which was to divide the humans and cause them to fight each other to death," Dave said to himself, his thoughts darkening.
"Absolutely," Erin’s voice echoed in his mind, her tone firm and resolute. "It’s just as it had happened in the other destroyed worlds," she continued, her words painting a picture of a grim fate. "You have to do whatever you can to stop people from killing each other," she urged, her voice filled with a sense of urgency.
"If a great bloodshed were to happen due to humans fighting each other, then we will have no other choice but to watch your world get destroyed," Erin’s words dropped like a hammer, her tone devoid of emotion. "If not by Exus, by us," she added, her words sending a shiver down Dave’s spine.
"Why?" Dave asked, his mind reeling with the implications. "Why would you have to destroy the world?" he pressed, his curiosity getting the better of him. Erin hesitated, her silence palpable in Dave’s mind. For a moment, it seemed like she was weighing her options, deciding whether to reveal more. But then, she seemed to come to a decision.
"Alright, I’ll tell you then," Erin said, her voice laced with a sigh that echoed in Dave’s mind. The words hung in the air, and Dave could sense Erin’s reluctance, as if she was about to reveal a secret that was meant to remain hidden.
"The universe made a rule where worlds should be destroyed if a great bloodshed was to ever happen amongst the descendants of the world," Erin began, her voice measured and deliberate. "And the universe had placed us gods in charge of this," she added, her words carrying a weight of responsibility.
The air seemed to thicken as Erin’s words hung in the balance, Dave’s mind reeling with the implications. "But Exus took it upon himself to do," Erin continued, her tone turning darker. "And when he saw that the people won’t fight themselves, he would cause a rift between them, leading to a fight and then to a large upscale war, eventually causing a lot of blood to be spilled, and then, he’ll destroy that world."
Dave’s eyes widened as the full extent of Exus’ plan dawned on him. "It took long, but we later learnt of this," Erin said, her voice tinged with regret. "So we stopped him from working and had him placed on trial for using his powers negatively, but despite being kept in the celestial cell, where no being could ever escape, Exus still managed to escape."
Erin’s words were laced with frustration and helplessness. "We don’t know how," she admitted. "And since then, we have been trying to capture him, but have failed severally."
The weight of Erin’s words settled heavily on Dave’s shoulders. "Which is why I’m advising you to stop the people from going at each other’s neck," Erin urged, her voice filled with a sense of urgency. "Or that could lead to the end of your world," she warned, her words painting a picture of devastation.
"The beasts and the apocalypse are just a distraction," Erin continued, her tone dripping with conviction. "A little problem to trigger a much larger problem," she added, her words revealing the true nature of the world. Erin’s voice cracked with emotion as she spoke. "I couldn’t save mine, so please, do everything in your power to save this world," she implored, her words echoing in Dave’s mind like a desperate prayer.
