Chapter 49: [50] Taking The Geneticist Test!

The Geneticist Guild building was one of the trademark architectural structures in Galaxy Reign Academy. The entire complex had two sphere-shaped buildings at the side, with a tall round building in the middle and a glass elevator in the center.

Theon looked at the Geneticist Guild, then asked, "Are all the architecture designs in Blue Swirl so massive?"

Theon walked to the round building in the middle of the complex, figuring that the buildings at the sides were probably the Geneticists’ experimental labs. The building in the middle would naturally be the place where the Geneticists held transactions, handled all dealings, or accepted missions. This would be where the Geneticist Guild’s highest ruling people would come to.

"Stop right there! Unauthorized personnel are not allowed to enter," a security guard barked.

More than 10 security guards level 9 Genetic Soldiers were standing in attention at both sides of the main door making Theon stunned at the power the Geneticist Guild possess.

One of the security guard’s expression turned into one of disdain after seeing Theon’s clothing.

This was because Geneticists were of noble statuses, so even an apprentice required a huge amount of wealth to be able to cultivate. Hence, their clothes and dressing styles always looked noble and luxurious. Looking at Theon’s ordinary clothes, he looked like any other normal student.

"I am here to participate in the Geneticist certification. This is my letter of recommendation," Theon said.

The Geneticist Guild’s unique coding was on the letter of recommendation. It was impossible to fake. When the security guard saw the letter of recommendation, his expression changed immediately.

He then smiled flatteringly and said, "It’s Geneticist Lorraine letter of recommendation. The Geneticists certification process is about to start, so please enter."

The security guard let him in, figuring that anyone who could get a letter of recommendation would definitely have the support of a Geneticist behind them. Also, since there was a recommendation list for every Geneticist who wanted to get certified.

Theon had already become accustomed to the way the humans on this planet changed their faces.

The people’s way of expressing their wants here was much more straightforward than on Earth.

As such, their greediness, fawning upon the rich and powerful in their pursuit of profits was more obvious here. Moreover, as this culture lacked morals and values, it was normal for the majority of people to work solely for profit and their own gain.

Guided by the security guard, Theon walked into a big hall on the first floor, where hundreds of people were already gathered.

In that moment, Theon surveyed the entire place, realizing that the hundreds of Geneticist apprentices had mostly been split into two sections. Even though they could talk to each other, nobody crossed over to the other section.

"This is..." Upon seeing this situation, Theon was perplexed.

"Mr. Theon is from the civilian camp, so please follow me." The security guard guided Theon to the section on the left.

"Civilian camp? What is this all about?" Theon asked curiously.

"Mr. Theon doesn’t know about the two main camps?" The security guard, who was named Rickey, asked. He then explained with a smile, "The two main camps are related to the Geneticist Guild..."

According to Rickey, Blue Swirl continent’s Geneticists were split into two main camps. The first camp was comprised of the Geneticists born as civilians, while the other was for Geneticists born as nobles.

As the name suggests, the privileged tier could obtain benefits that normal people could not obtain. Hence, it was easier for the privileged nobles to cultivate, as they had ample resources.

As for the civilians tier, it was harder for them to cultivate. But, the Geneticists from the civilians tier were often more talented than those from the nobles tier. This was due to the fact that, unless they had outstanding talents, they would not be able to rise above the others.

The noble Geneticists were known to look down upon the civilian Geneticists, as they felt that their existence sullied the noble Geneticist occupation.

However, the fact that the civilian Geneticists were more talented than them caused the noble Geneticists to feel at a slight disadvantage.

Thus, they kept targeting the civilian Geneticists in every way that they could. The civilian Geneticists were naturally not happy about this, not understanding why they acted so superior. Therefore, the competition between the two sides became increasingly aggressive.

"It is too difficult for civilians to become Geneticists, as most of them learn about the fundamental knowledge during high school and would only have the resources to practice during university. But, the civilian Geneticists do also accept some talented apprentices or hold free classes and free experiments..." Ricky sighed.

"However, these resources are far from being enough for all of them, so only the most talented among them can rise above the others and become a real Geneticist."

Throughout the years, Ricky had seen far too many of these similar situations. Theon could not help but sigh. If not for the help of the system, he would not have been able to become a Geneticist either. However, this group of civilian apprentices’ financial situation improved a lot after they became apprentices, so at least life wasn’t as hard as it used to be for them.

"Hey friend, why have I not seen you before? Which master do you hail from?" Right at this moment, a tall and thin man smiled and greeted Theon. "I’m Gordon a third year student of this academy, and these three are Klein, John, and Mayor."

Gordon introduced the others to Theon in a friendly manner 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Klein was a delicate and pretty youth, who looked to be about 15 or 16 years old. John was a middle-aged, bearded man, and Mayor was a handsome man with blue hair. Theon instantly realized that the apprentices at the civilians’ side were much friendlier.

"I’m Theon, a self-schooled Geneticist. I just got a letter of recommendation, so I’m here to try my luck," Theon said, smiling.

"You actually got a letter of recommendation!" Gordon’s expression was one of surprise. The others could not help but look over.

"Hahaha, to think that, other than our Klein, there was another apprentice who got a letter of recommendation!" John laughed and said.

Theon was stunned for a moment, then asked, "Is it very hard to get a letter of recommendation?"

...

"Brother, do you have any idea how hard it is to get a letter of recommendation?" Gordon ranted. "In our civilian camp, there are no more than ten apprentices, who are eligible for letters of recommendation, and they are all true geniuses!"

Theon now realized how valuable a letter of recommendation really was. Although a certified Geneticist would be qualified to write a letter of recommendation for others, not every Geneticist would want to do so.

To get a letter of recommendation, a certified Geneticist had to attest that a student truly excelled in the areas of strength and talent. As such, getting a letter of recommendation was akin to being under the tutelage of that Geneticist, thus sharing a relationship similar to that of a mentor and a disciple.

If that mentor had his own laboratory, the disciple would have to work and learn in the laboratory for a period of time after he assumed the role as a certified Geneticist. A Geneticist must be impressed with the person’s talent before he would issue him a letter of recommendation. Otherwise, bringing in someone inexperienced would only damage his laboratory.

At the same time, whether a student accepted a letter of recommendation was also a choice.

Accepting a letter of recommendation was tantamount to working in the mentor’s laboratory. But, the positives that brought included the convenience of following a famous Geneticist, learning from his knowledge and resources.

Of course, this whole process was aimed at civilian apprentices. As for the apprentices with the privileges of a noble, they had their own family Geneticists and research laboratories.

However, for a civilian apprentice, a letter of recommendation was a necessary stepping stone, allowing him to directly participate in the Geneticist certification examination. Once he became a Geneticist, he could also learn from the renowned Geneticist, access the required resources, and be nurtured.

Even though this would mean being an employee for a period of time, it was all worthwhile. After all, there was a huge difference between being taught by a renowned mentor and having to learn on your own.

"Brother, which certified Geneticist did you get your letter of recommendation from? Let me tell you, it’s important to choose a renowned mentor," Gordon said with a serious look.

Theon smiled and said, "It’s a secret."

They were not surprised and did not continue to probe further. Usually, before an apprentice becomes a Geneticist, a mentor does not wish their apprentice to reveal to others that their letter of recommendation came from them.

The reasoning for this was, if the apprentice received a letter of recommendation but failed to become certified, the mentor himself would also be disgraced and ridiculed by his peers.

A group of people were chatting warmly with Theon. As the civilian camp in the Geneticist Guild was relatively weak in power, it made them feel more united. Through listening to their conversations, Theon found that a total of eight people had received letters of recommendation in this certification examination, including Klein and himself.

"Klein and Jasmine have the best chances of passing this certification examination, as they are the most gifted among the civilian population," Clay said with a sigh.

Clay was more than 40 years old. He had failed to pass the certification examination, even after countless attempts.
