SSS-Rank 10x Reward System: Accepting Disciples to Live Forever-Chapter 216: Dragon Bloodline?
"What, another...?!"
Wang Chen stared with wide eyes at the object now resting in his hands.
Just a moment earlier, Eternal Dream had calmly handed it to him.
An egg.
A pure white egg.
"Arrogant and prideful, my fellow dragons refused to believe that the dragon race would ever go extinct," Eternal Dream said quietly. "But I always prepared for the worst outcome."
Her voice was calm, yet there was a faint heaviness hidden beneath it.
"Long ago, I began gathering dragon essence to give birth to an heir."
Her gaze drifted toward the egg Wang Chen was holding.
"What you hold in your hands... is my daughter."
Wang Chen unconsciously lowered his head and looked at the pristine white egg resting in his palms.
The surface felt incredibly smooth.
Cold.
Almost unnaturally so.
To be honest, it did not resemble the egg of some legendary dragon at all. If anything, it looked more like an oversized chicken egg someone had accidentally painted white.
His mind wandered despite himself.
If this was Eternal Dream’s daughter...
Then what exactly did that make him?
Stepfather?
The thought appeared so suddenly that Wang Chen nearly choked on his own breath.
He hurriedly shook his head.
What nonsense was he thinking?
Meanwhile, Eternal Dream quietly observed him.
Something in her gaze shifted ever so slightly.
It was an incredibly subtle change. Anyone not paying close attention would have easily missed it.
But for some reason, she said nothing.
After a short moment, Wang Chen finally recovered from his wandering thoughts.
He lifted his head and looked at Eternal Dream again.
"Why me?"
His tone had turned serious.
"Why wait for so long just for someone like me?"
He tightened his grip slightly on the egg.
"And more importantly... why should I even help you?"
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"What exactly would I gain from this?"
Hearing those questions, Eternal Dream’s posture visibly relaxed.
It was almost as if she had been waiting for him to finally ask them.
"As I said earlier," she replied calmly, "why you?"
She folded her hands lightly before her.
"You already know how the dragon race fell."
Her expression grew faintly solemn.
"I cannot allow such a situation to happen again."
Her gaze moved toward the egg.
"For my daughter to grow up safely in the real world... I can only entrust her to someone."
Her eyes returned to Wang Chen.
"And as for why you would agree to this..."
A faint smile slowly appeared on her lips.
"As I have already told you, this entire inheritance ground was created with you in mind."
Her voice carried a hint of quiet amusement.
"So how could I not know what you want?"
The smile on her face deepened slightly.
"Is that even a question?"
"I may not know the exact path yet," she continued, "but there is absolutely no way you will not benefit from taking her under your wing."
Silence fell.
Wang Chen lowered his gaze toward the egg again.
Eternal Dream’s daughter.
A true dragon.
Even without thinking too deeply, he already knew what that meant.
A being born from the essence of one of the most powerful races in existence would undoubtedly possess terrifying talent.
If he were to accept her as a disciple...
She might one day grow powerful enough to help him break through the limits of his own cultivation.
Perhaps even push his golden core to a level that had never been seen before.
In that sense, Eternal Dream was absolutely correct.
There were certainly benefits.
Yet...
Wang Chen remained silent.
Because deep down, he knew something.
This reason alone was still not enough.
A lone dragon following him around was bound to drag him straight into the center of attention.
That kind of spotlight was far beyond Wang Chen’s risk tolerance.
He had always preferred staying quietly in the background, cultivating in peace and avoiding unnecessary trouble. Carrying around the last heir of the dragon race was the exact opposite of that.
It was practically an invitation for the entire world to hunt him down.
Perhaps Eternal Dream had sensed the hesitation in his heart.
Or perhaps she had simply read his thoughts.
Whatever the reason, the gentle smile on her face slowly disappeared.
In its place appeared a cold, indifferent smile.
"Hmm," she said calmly.
"Quite bold of you to assume you have a choice in this matter."
A bone-chilling cold ran down Wang Chen’s spine.
The meaning behind her words was perfectly clear.
Indeed... it was quite bold of him to assume he had any choice at all.
"Well," Wang Chen muttered inwardly, his face turning slightly bitter, "just my luck."
"I really shouldn’t have come to this palace."
He felt like slapping his past self.
"Damn it... no more secret exploration for me in the future."
Despite the storm of complaints raging inside his head, Wang Chen forced a polite smile onto his face.
Then he nodded.
"Of course," he said, his voice carrying a faint stiffness, "it would be an honor to raise the pride of dragons."
The moment those words left his mouth, the coldness in Eternal Dream’s expression vanished.
Her calm, dignified smile returned as if nothing had happened.
"Of course," she said lightly.
"We dragons may be arrogant and prideful, but we are not ungrateful."
Her gaze rested on him.
"I will give you a reward that will satisfy you."
As she spoke, Eternal Dream casually flicked her wrist.
The space directly in front of Wang Chen suddenly split apart like fragile glass.
A small crack opened in midair.
From within that crack, a single crimson droplet slowly floated out.
The moment it appeared—
A terrifying draconic roar echoed through the frozen space.
The sound was ancient and overwhelming.
Wang Chen felt his soul tremble violently.
For a brief moment, his vision blurred.
It was as if he had been pulled across endless time, witnessing a distant era when dragons still ruled the universe.
Gigantic dragon bodies coiled around blazing suns.
Some devoured entire planets as if they were nothing more than snacks.
Their roars shook the heavens themselves.
"This," Eternal Dream said calmly, "is the final essence of the true dragon race."
Her voice carried a quiet pride.
"The most precious treasure of dragon essence."
Her gaze sharpened slightly.
"Accept it."
Dragon essence.
Wang Chen’s expression immediately turned vigilant.
He had always disliked accepting anything related to other races’ bloodlines.
Power gained that way always came with hidden risks.
There was absolutely no way he intended to absorb something like this into his body.
Maybe, once again, he had forgotten a certain important detail.
He did not have a choice.
Before he could even react—
The crimson droplet suddenly moved.
It shot forward like a streak of light and merged directly into Wang Chen’s chest.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
Wang Chen’s eyes widened in horror.
He immediately looked at Eternal Dream, his expression clearly displeased.
A deep frown appeared on his face.
"What is the meaning of this, Eternal Dream?"
His tone was no longer polite.
Wang Chen’s concern was genuine.
For a brief moment, he even suspected that Eternal Dream had secretly planted some kind of control mechanism inside his body.
After all, beings at her level were more than capable of leaving hidden traps.
And even if it wasn’t intentional...
Could his body truly withstand something as terrifying as the essence of a true dragon?
