Chapter 716: No way out

Damon’s instincts were on point as the very next moment, he felt a strong tug in the depths of his soul.

Namina grinned viciously, licking her lips. "Look here, pretty boy. Your looks are only average, but your body is top-notch. You don’t have to beg mommy too much. I will take you in. There is just one small thing you need to do before that. Let go of your soul."

Even as she finished talking, a powerful surge slammed into Damon’s consciousness.

The tug on his soul intensified, no longer subtle. It was invasive, cold, and razor-sharp, like invisible hooks trying to tear something fundamental out of him. Dark sigils flared beneath Namina’s feet, forming a complex soul-binding formation.

A cold glint appeared in her eyes as she licked her lips and gazed at Damon with an insatiable hunger. "You will be a fine addition to my collection." She laughed loudly.

Seeing this, the crown prince and the other members of the hidden orders slightly relaxed. A second ago, the system contract in front of them seemed like the only way out of their misery, but now, that was no longer the case.

Everyone knew that once Namina decided to go full-on crazy, there was nothing and no one who could stop that woman. The only people capable of doing something like that were B-ranked powerhouses, and their Western Desert Empire did not have any monsters like that.

The bloodsucker was truly finished now.

Some even clicked their tongues in pity. Falling into Namina’s hands was in many ways worse than death, and most wouldn’t wish it on their worst enemy.

On the other side, Alzara and the old emperor had horrified looks on their faces. Neither of them had expected the crazy witch to show up here, let alone go all out. But the emperor was quicker to react than anyone else.

The moment the soul-binding formation began to ignite, he moved. He knew this wasn’t a fight Damon could easily handle. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

A roar echoed through the hall as ancient imperial seals flared around his arm. Mana surged violently, condensing into a blazing arc of sunlight that tore through the air toward Namina.

The attack zoomed like a falling sun. Golden light howled, ripping apart the air as the emperor poured everything he had into the strike.

"Get away from him!"

The blazing arc slammed into Namina, but before it could do anything to her, a translucent barrier bloomed in front of her, layered with runes. The sunlight struck and shattered on contact, exploding into fragments of light that scattered harmlessly across the floor like dying embers.

Namina finally turned her head, irritation flashing across her face. "Tsk. Old men really should learn when to stay in their graves." She flicked her finger. The backlash came instantly.

The emperor was hit mid-stance, his seals shattering one after another as an invisible force smashed into him. He was hurled backward like a broken doll, crashing through a marble pillar and skidding across the floor in a spray of stone and blood.

"FATHER!" Alzara screamed.

However, even before she could reach him, a blood-red hand wrapped around the emperor, protecting him.

Seeing the blood-red hand, everyone’s attention shifted back to the only person who could have conjured something like that.

Alzara gasped. The crown prince’s jaw almost dropped to the ground. Many others gulped in disbelief. The person who should have become a soulless husk under Namina’s ultimate soul attack was standing perfectly fine.

Damon winced slightly, but the vigor in his eyes made it clear that the attack was nothing much. Even Namina looked like she hadn’t expected such an outcome as she froze for a moment, staring at Damon with wide eyes.

"Interesting!" She cackled. She was about to say something else when her face changed. Her flawless pale skin, as smooth as a baby’s bottom, and her voluptuous body, which made countless men drool despite her rotten personality, suddenly started changing.

Rot filled her up from the inside out. She was also no longer able to move or even cackle anymore. Fear and dread filled her eyes as her shock quickly turned into terror.

"You had one chance. Now it’s gone." Damon stood still and smiled. He no longer had to do anything. Everything was already over. "Did you really think I would come here without making any preparations for you, you ugly old hag?"

Though Damon hadn’t exactly cracked the code on strengthening his soul and healing an injured soul, it wasn’t like he hadn’t made any progress at all.

There was also Arya working tirelessly on creating a soul poison and soul healing elixir. Along with the many venom sigil alchemists, she had already made a new and improved version of the soul clouding poison, which allowed Damon to hide his soul, only suffering a small setback in his stats.

Naturally, he did not care about this. In fact, this was ideal as stats were something he had saved up quite a bit by now. The poison would either eat his strength or his agility, or his intelligence and affect his damage power.

But as long as he sent in more stats to fill the gap, the drawback was easily solved. This was not ideal, but this was the best the team could come up with in this short time.

And it had already come in clutch to mount a defense against a powerful soul attack.

Anger flashed in Namina’s eyes, but there was nothing she could do. As she silently stood and rotted on the spot, all her beauty wilting into nothingness, the others finally snapped out of it.

The hidden order members who had been so confident moments ago were now scrambling on their knees, hands shaking as they hurriedly signed the glowing system contracts floating in front of them. Pride, loyalty, ambition, none of it mattered anymore. Survival came first.

If Namina couldn’t stand against this person, then none of them had any chance. Namina was one of the peak C rank experts rumored to be on the verge of breaking into B rank. If she couldn’t do anything to the bloodsucker in front of them, then the situation was truly hopeless.
