Chapter 123: Chapter 123: The Turning Point

Arthur then shifted his focus to them. While the first class ogres overwhelmed the front lines with brute force, the second class ones controlled the flow of battle. Their seismic pulses shattered formation, created openings, and threw the explorers into disorder.

If those three were left alone, defeat was only a matter of time.

Arthur observed carefully.

He noticed how mana gathered around Ryn, thicker than before. It wrapped around his limbs like flowing armor. His movements became faster, sharper. Every strike landed on a vital point. Every step placed him where he needed to be before danger arrived.

It was controlled reinforcement, pushed to a higher level.

Still, even that was not enough.

Arthur could tell Ryn wasn’t try to hold anything back, yet the battlefield demanded more than what he was showing.

And as Arthur watched him move, a plan slowly formed in his mind.

His gaze returned to the third second class ogre.

It raised its arms slightly. Its chest expanded. Mana condensed along its spine.

Arthur had seen this pattern several times already.

Before the pulse.

Without hesitation, he raised his hand.

A fireball formed, but he did not release it immediately. He compressed it, shaping the spinning flames until the sphere stretched into a narrow point. The heat intensified, the surface twisting like a drill.

Then he fired.

The flaming spear shot forward with piercing speed and struck the ogre’s side just as the gathered mana reached its peak.

The reaction was immediate.

The mana destabilized. The ogre staggered. The seismic pulse failed to release, dispersing into scattered sparks of corrupted energy.

Arthur blinked once.

Then he smiled.

"That worked."

The interruption had been perfect. The skill required focus and buildup. Disrupting that buildup prevented its activation entirely.

A weakness.

And weaknesses could be exploited.

Arthur moved again, calling out across the battlefield.

"Ryn!"

Ryn was already attacking another second class ogre when he heard the call. Their eyes met briefly. No long explanation was needed. He had seen what Arthur did.

He understood.

If they could keep the second class ogres from using their abilities, the entire flow of battle would change. The problem had always been their numbers. Three of them meant constant pressure.

But now..

Arthur’s experiment had revealed something crucial.

The skill could be stopped.

And more importantly, it could not be used repeatedly in a short time.

A flaw in their advantage.

Arthur’s smile widened slightly as he called out again.

"I’ll handle the second class ogres. Focus on opening a path for the captain!"

Ryn paused mid movement, looking at him properly this time.

There was no hesitation in Arthur’s eyes. Only certainty.

"Are you serious?" Ryn asked, his voice calm despite the chaos.

Arthur gave a small nod. "Trust me."

For a moment, Ryn simply watched him. He had seen Arthur do the impossible before. He had witnessed his control, his awareness, his strange ability to read the battlefield.

If Arthur said he could do it, then he probably could.

Ryn exhaled slowly and nodded.

"Alright."

The mana around Ryn surged once more, thicker than before. With no need to divide his attention, he moved toward the captain’s position, stepping into the heart of the fight.

The captain noticed immediately.

He frowned as Ryn entered the fray and drew the ogre’s attention away from him.

"What are you doing here?" the captain demanded between heavy strikes.

"Arthur will handle the second class ogres," Ryn replied simply.

The captain’s eyes widened slightly. "That new recruit?"

Ryn met his gaze.

"Trust him. Find your opening. I’ll keep it distracted."

There was no doubt in his voice.

The captain felt something strange hearing those words. It felt wrong to place such responsibility on a junior member. Yet the battlefield offered no time for argument.

He pushed the thought aside.

If this was their chance, he would not waste it.

Ryn’s movements changed the moment he focused on a single opponent. His control over the ogre was overwhelming. He guided its movements with precise strikes, attacking joints, redirecting swings, forcing it into unstable positions.

The captain watched closely.

Vital points. Weak angles. Controlled pressure.

Ryn was breaking the monster down piece by piece.

Understanding the opportunity, the captain began preparing his finishing skill. Mana flowed into his axe, making the blade heavier, sharper. He waited patiently for the moment he had been seeking.

Then it came.

Ryn struck the ogre’s leg joint with perfect timing. The monster lost balance and dropped to one knee.

The captain moved instantly.

With a powerful leap, he descended, his axe cutting through the air with overwhelming force. The blade carved deep into the ogre’s neck, tearing through flesh and bone. A massive wound opened, and the creature collapsed.

The first ogre fell.

The captain landed heavily, breathing out in relief.

He looked at Ryn. "Good work."

Ryn shook his head slightly. "Arthur made it possible."

They both turned.

Across the battlefield, Arthur moved with focused intensity, repeatedly interrupting the second class ogres whenever their mana gathered. Each time they tried to release their seismic pulse, his attacks arrived at the perfect moment, disrupting their flow.

His control over fire was frighteningly precise.

The captain watched in silence for a brief moment. Surprise flickered across his face, followed by growing admiration.

But there was no time to dwell on it.

The battle was far from over.

He raised his voice, taking command once more.

"Everyone, listen!" his voice thundered across the field. "Focus on distracting the monsters. Leave the finishing strikes to me!"

The explorers responded immediately. With renewed direction, their scattered attacks began to align. Pressure mounted on the remaining ogres.

And slowly, the tide of battle began to shift.

Arthur continued to disrupt the second class ogres, his mind calm, his eyes sharp. Each successful interruption strengthened his confidence. Each reaction of the enemy confirmed his understanding.

This was his role.

Control the flow. Create opportunities. Change the outcome.

For the first time since this battle began, victory felt possible.
