Chapter 107: Chapter 82: Surgical Maniac (3)

The surgery was, of course, a difficult one. However, for Chen Yu, who possessed the Eye of All-Seeing, the so-called difficulties were hardly a problem.

With the Eye of All-Seeing, the locations of every blood vessel and nerve were perfectly clear. He had already planned out exactly how to drill the bone tunnel and where to make each incision.

"So smooth."

In the observation gallery above, Joseph couldn’t help but marvel once again. Watching Chen Yu operate gave him only one impression: it was as fluid as flowing water.

When he performed surgery himself, he had to stop and think carefully whenever he encountered a problem. After all, cutting a body open often revealed many hidden issues.

But Chen Yu seemed to have already studied the patient from the inside out; he didn’t make a single wasted motion.

More than three hours later, Chen Yu finished suturing, looked up at the team, and asked if they were tired.

"Not tired? Good. Take a thirty-minute break, then we’ll start the next one." Chen Yu nodded and walked out of the operating room.

The rest of the staff exchanged stunned glances.

"He’s a beast. I heard he scheduled four surgeries for today," a nurse remarked.

The anesthesiologist stood up, stretching his backside, which was sore from sitting for so long. "That’s nothing," he said. "I heard from Joseph that he has over thirty more surgeries scheduled over the next few days. The department must be ecstatic."

Doctors are people, not machines. Performing several surgeries in one day is utterly exhausting. Normally, a surgeon only schedules two or three operations a week.

But Chen Yu? He was going to perform a full forty surgeries in a single week.

And then there were the fees.

Orthopedics was already a profitable department. With this many surgeries all at once, they were going to make an absolute killing.

At 5:00 p.m., Chen Yu finished his third surgery.

After a quick meal, Chen Yu headed over to the ER.

The head of the ER, Jack, had already heard that Chen Yu had performed three surgeries and was about to do a fourth. He couldn’t help but ask, "Chen, why aren’t you taking a break? What are you doing down here in the ER?"

"My wrist is sore from drilling all that bone. Just came to loosen up a bit." Chen Yu smiled, his eyes already locked on a patient clutching their forehead.

Jack was dumbfounded.

’Tired? So he stitches people up to relax? The man is insane!’

After stitching up three patients and grinding his experience points to 99, Chen Yu returned to the operating room for the final surgery.

It was a standard clavicle fracture: incise the flesh, drill holes, and secure with screws. Chen Yu could do this type of surgery with his eyes closed.

As he tied off the final suture, Chen Yu’s eyes suddenly lit up.

’It’s here.’

[Congratulations, Host. You have obtained a Gold Level therapeutic effect.]

’Looks like my thinking was correct,’ he thought. ’Max out my experience with simple suturing, then use a complex surgery to increase the chances of getting a therapeutic effect.’

’A shame it was only Gold Level, though.’

Chen Yu glanced at the surgical nurse beside him and was reminded of Julian.

’If that Emperor of Europe had been here, maybe I could have gotten a Diamond Level one.’

’But this is useful all the same.’

For Ronaldo’s surgery, Chen Yu planned to do the same thing he did for Hardaway: stack several therapeutic effects to give him the healthiest leg possible.

「Washington.」

A knock sounded at the door.

Inside the room, Lexi jolted and patted Chen Yu on the back. "Someone’s knocking."

"I hear it," Chen Yu said hastily, without breaking his rhythm.

Lexi suppressed the urge to cry out, saying through gritted teeth, "It might be important."

Just as she said that, Nelson’s voice came from outside the door. "Chen, are you in there? We have to leave."

Lexi quickly pushed against Chen Yu, giving him a look that urged him to hurry up and go.

Chen Yu returned an exasperated look. ’Who stops halfway?’

"Ignore him," Chen Yu whispered, then shouted toward the door, "I’m not here! You go on ahead. I’ll get there on my own in a bit."

Today was the official team practice before the All-Star Game itself.

As the team doctor, Chen Yu had to be there, as did Nelson, the trainer.

Outside the door, Nelson paused for a moment after hearing Chen Yu’s reply, then turned and left with an exasperated shake of his head.

Lexi shot Chen Yu an embarrassed, annoyed glare, but in the heat of the moment, she couldn’t dwell on it.

At 2:00 p.m., the MCI Center was already star-studded.

Stars from the East and West conferences arrived at the arena one after another for a one-hour team practice in preparation for tomorrow’s All-Star Game. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Though it was called a team practice, it was more like a media frenzy.

After all, were people there at the All-Star Game to watch the rookies play? Of course not. They were there to see the stars.

Especially when it meant seeing the entire league’s top superstars gathered on the same court at the same time.

O’Neal and Kobe arrived at the same time and were immediately swarmed by a horde of reporters.

"You know, my injury was pretty serious," O’Neal said, true to his goofy nature, speaking animatedly to the reporters. "But it’s all because of Chen that I was able to make a comeback before the All-Star Game. And Kobe, he had it much worse than me, following Chen to Phoenix to get treatment. He even told me that Chen has a special treatment method, using needles *this* long and sticking them right into you."

He grimaced, wincing at the mere thought of it.

Just then, a voice came from behind him. "What’s that, Shaq? You want to give it a try, too?"

O’Neal’s expression changed. He whipped his head around and saw Chen Yu walking in, dressed in a West coaching staff uniform.

"No, I never said that," O’Neal denied, shaking his head quickly. He then immediately urged the reporters to go interview Chen Yu.

He didn’t even need to. A large number of reporters had already swarmed over on their own.

"Chen, when do you plan to operate on Ronaldo?" a reporter asked, firing off the first question.

With a large number of European reporters flocking to Phoenix these past few days, journalists in the United States had also learned about Ronaldo’s situation.

Although Americans don’t typically care much about soccer, Ronaldo, a two-time World Player of the Year, was clearly no ordinary soccer star.

As a result, some American media outlets had run reports on him as well.

"I don’t know."

Chen Yu was already well-versed in how to handle these reporters. His strategy was simple: just say he didn’t know. No matter what they asked, the answer was the same.

The reporters, already used to this, moved on to ask about Hardaway.

It had been a month since Hardaway’s surgery.

"He’s recovering." Chen Yu’s reply was just as brief.

However, before coming to Washington, Hardaway had already had his brace removed. Life was about to get much easier for him.

Just as he was speaking, he saw Hill and Tracy McGrady excitedly walking over from a distance.

"Chen, I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Where have you been?" Hill greeted Chen Yu with a big hug, then complained.

Chen Yu hadn’t shown up for yesterday’s fan festival or the Rookie Challenge. When Hill had called him, Chen had just said he was busy, without explaining what he was doing.

"Let’s not talk about that." Chen Yu changed the subject and asked how Hill’s ankle was.

"It’s great. Not a single problem."

Hill stomped his foot.

Chen Yu could see it, too; his cartilage was as healthy as ever, with no new damage.

It was the same for Tracy McGrady—no problems there either.

Just then, not far off, Su Qun and Zhang Weiping, special correspondents from China’s CCTV, were gathered around West head coach Adelman for an interview.

Zhang Weiping was in the middle of asking a question, while Su Qun scanned the area, searching for their next interview subject.

Then he saw Chen Yu.

A young man with East Asian features.

"Coach Zhang, look at that guy," Su Qun said, patting Zhang Weiping on the shoulder and pointing toward Chen Yu.
