Chapter 83: Chapter 81: Delivering Documents to the President

Despite Auntie Li’s reassurances, Jiayi was still very nervous on her first day working at the headquarters; she nibbled on a pork loin patty, chewing absentmindedly.

Auntie Li was a superb cook and always varied the dishes for her, which usually left Jiayi savoring each meal; however, today she had no appetite.

Breakfast, which ordinarily took twenty minutes to finish, took her half an hour to eat today.

After breakfast, Jiayi went downstairs and got into George’s car.

The car sped off and arrived at Huo Group headquarters half an hour before starting time.

A fifty-two-story building entirely purchased by the Huo Group was styled in understated luxury, with its employee parking lot, high-end restaurant, and recreational areas.

Jiayi had thought that JJ’s office in the prime downtown area was impressive enough, but standing in front of the headquarters, she truly realized what a high-end office space was.

After composing herself, she walked in.

Taking the elevator, she pressed the button for the thirtieth floor to report to the HR department.

Arriving at the HR manager’s office, after announcing herself, a young, suit-clad, and refined-looking HR manager led Jiayi up to the fiftieth floor.

Reaching their destination, the office was beautiful and modern, surpassing JJ by a good measure; Jiayi was left almost breathless.

A few meticulously made-up professional beauties were bustling through the office with documents in hand.

"This is the President’s secretarial department; your seat is over there."

The HR manager pointed, then gestured for the other secretaries in the same position as Jiayi to come over, "Come here, Yue Lan, Xue Xiaoying, Miaomiao, come and meet your new colleague, just transferred from the JJ branch to headquarters."

"Oh, so this is the Marketing Assistant transferred from the branch office?" A young woman in a purple dress, referred to by the HR manager as Yue Lan, raised an eyebrow, sizing up Jiayi with a look that carried skepticism and disdain; after all, she was from a lower branch office and rumored to be just a minor marketing assistant.

The other two secretaries, one with long flowing hair and a baby-face, looking somewhat like a Korean drama female lead, were named Miaomiao.

The other, with short, neat hair and a pointed chin, wore glasses and was called Xue Xiaoying.

Their gazes, too, grew complex.

"Hello everyone," Jiayi knew that even though she was at the same level as these three women, since they were her seniors, she bowed politely.

Seeing that the newcomer was reasonably sensible, the three of them nodded coolly and went back to their desks to resume their work.

Arriving at her seat, Jiayi spent some time getting familiar with the department.

Besides herself, there were those three secretaries, all exclusively serving the President’s office.

In effect, Huo Zhenyang was served by four secretaries.

After flipping through some files and getting accustomed to some of the business, it was almost noon, and the office wasn’t as busy as before.

Yue Lan and the others stopped their tasks and occasionally chatted and laughed, but none of them spoke to Jiayi.

The three of them clustered together, talking and laughing comfortably, casting Jiayi, not far away, as an isolated island.

Jiayi knew that as the newcomer, they definitely excluded her from their circle.

Nevertheless, the feeling was akin to that of a transfer student who had just moved to a new class and received cold treatment from classmates; it still felt quite unpleasant.

Suddenly, she heard a hushing sound.

Following the sound, Jiayi looked towards the hallway and saw a familiar face.

It was Tang En’en.

Tang En’en was dressed in a sky-blue professional suit, smiling and winking at her merrily.

Jiayi couldn’t believe her eyes, dropped the documents she was holding, and walked over with excitement, whispering, "How did you get here?"

Tang En’en, holding her hand, also looked surprised, "I’ve been transferred to the headquarters too. Now at the General Affairs Department, same position as before, just organizing some data and materials."

"Really?" Jiayi’s apricot eyes widened. How could Tang En’en be suddenly transferred here as well?

"Yeah, I found it strange too. Last night Samuel called me out of the blue and said to come in for work today." Tang En’en was carefree by nature and didn’t bother with too many details, brimming with excitement, "Anyway, now we can be together again, we can leave work and have lunch together every day!"

Jiayi nodded and smiled, but inside she was somewhat suspicious. How could Tang En’en have been transferred to headquarters right after her? Could it be...

The two chatted for a while.

Since it wasn’t lunch break yet, Tang En’en whispered, "I actually sneaked up here while delivering the reports, I should head back now. I’ll find you at lunchtime, and we’ll eat together."

Jiayi watched Tang En’en leave and returned to her seat. Her previously gloomy mood seemed to clear up with the arrival of her friend, becoming much more cheerful.

Just then, a manager came over: "Is the tender report the President needs ready?"

"It’s ready. The President was in a meeting just now, and I didn’t want to disturb him, I’ll deliver it right away!" Yue Lan hastily stood up and responded.

The manager’s gaze fell on Jiayi: "You take the tender report up."

"Me?" Jiayi was caught off guard by the request to deliver the report.

Yue Lan was also taken aback.

"Yes."

Jiayi had no choice but to go over to Yue Lan’s place to pick up the report and head upstairs.

Yue Lan’s face was stiff, and she remained in place long after, not recovering from her shock.

"She’s only just arrived and she already gets to deliver documents to the President. I’ve been in the Secretary Department for two whole months before I even got to step into the President’s office!" Miaomiao was full of envy, jealousy, and resentment.

"Didn’t she go with the President on a business trip to Southeast Asia? It must mean she’s no ordinary person. Anyone who can get into the Huo Group’s headquarters must have some background, right? We’ll all have to be on our guard now." Xue Xiaoying adjusted her glasses on the bridge of her nose, very certain of her assertion, and deliberately thumped Yue Lan on the side, "Especially you, Lan Lan."

Although Yue Lan didn’t speak, her delicate face darkened.

Within the President’s Secretary Department, she had the highest education, had been with the group the longest, and was known for her strong work capability. Hence she had become the most favored secretary by the President out of the pool of secretaries.

Now, a parachuted newcomer who had somehow endeared herself to the President was receiving such favoritism, naturally, Yue Lan was not pleased.

——

The President’s office was close to the Secretary Department, just up on the fifty-first floor.

Jiayi took the tender report and rode the elevator up.

As soon as the elevator door "dinged" open, it was as if she had entered another world.

Prestigious, elegant, austere, and minimalist.

This wasn’t so much an office space as a palace, Jiayi couldn’t help but click her tongue in astonishment.

The air was filled with a faint scent of fragrance, majestic marble columns graced the space, and a red carpet laid on the floor stretched out to a door at the far end.

At the elevator entrance, two male assistants in suits and leather shoes were already waiting.

Although they were just assistants, they were clad in Armani suits and handcrafted Italian shoes, exuding an air of scholarly elegance.

They looked more like high-ranking imperial guards than the President’s aides.
