Chapter 728: Chapter 708, The Quality Will Improve

After a moment, a hint of amusement glinted at the corner of his lips, "The newly appointed Mrs. of the Huo Family, not one to sit quietly, saw me shouldering the heavy responsibilities of the Huo Family all alone, holding numerous positions, worried that I might be too strained with tasks, wants to share some of the burden."

Jiayi’s eyes widened, recalling the assistant’s words from before, she guessed a possibility, "She wants to return to the Huo Group and help you manage the Huo Family’s business in China?"

This time, returning to the company, Su Yan, now Mrs. Huo, was certainly not just a chief secretary but one of the decision-makers of the company.

No wonder the assistant said he would show the company’s financial statements to Su Yan tomorrow.

Huo Zhenyang maintained an impassive expression, tacitly agreeing.

Jiayi asked, "Did the old master agree?"

He casually adjusted his collar, his tone neither hurried nor slow, "Previously, she was the most capable servant of the Huo Family, familiar with the family business, and now as Mrs. Huo, she has just secured a major client from America for the Huo Family. It’s normal for the old master to give his new wife some rights and sweeteners."

Jiayi knew that despite the Huo Family’s global assets being entirely at Huo Zhenyang’s disposal, from beginning to end, in terms of internal titles within the Huo Group, Huo Tianpei was still the top chairman, holding absolute power of appointment and pardon.

Auntie Li had said that Huo Tianpei had actually wanted to transfer the largest shareholding to Huo Zhenyang and step down completely from the chairman position a few years ago.

This had always been Huo Zhenyang’s fervent wish.

Otherwise, four years ago, he wouldn’t have hastily gotten engaged to her just to reassure Tianpei, since the old master had a favorable opinion of her and liked the idea of her being the future daughter-in-law.

However, things don’t always turn out as one wishes, with Huo Zhenyang’s hereditary family illness flaring up, surgery, four years of convalescence... the plan for the transfer of shares was put on hold.

Now, if Huo Tianpei allowed Su Yan to participate in the decision-making of the China business, Huo Zhenyang couldn’t really complain.

Unless, he wanted to have a falling out with Huo Tianpei.

At that point, the major newspapers and media would have spicy news to write about—

A wealthy father remarries and brings in a stepmother, the eldest son is jealous, disagreeing over the division of assets, turning father and son into enemies... and the like.

By then, it would be yet another upheaval for the Huo Family.

And for his political image, it surely wouldn’t be unaffected.

In this view, at least for now, he can only accept Su Yan’s involvement in the management of the Huo business.

The current Su Yan, for him, had become an existence similar to his former stepmother Yao Zhenru.

Perhaps, even more troublesome to deal with than Yao Zhenru.

Yao Zhenru never involved herself in the group’s matters; no matter how much she stirred up trouble, she only made a fuss within the house, employing some unsophisticated little tactics.

A single stamp of the foot, hardly exerting any effort, could revert her back to her original form.

But Su Yan had made her way into the inner workings of the group.

Although her position was not as significant as his, merely assisting and helping out, with the status of Mrs. Huo, she would still somewhat touch upon his interests.

Jiayi had long anticipated that since Su Yan had the talent to climb onto Huo Tianpei, she would not be content with just being a virtuous partner, but she had not expected that her ambition was so great she would penetrate the group’s inner circle right after getting married.

And such big ambitions didn’t seem like something Su Yan could handle all by herself...

After contemplation, Jiayi said, "Su Yan is competent as a secretary, but it’s not certain whether she can be a good corporate decision-maker. If she doesn’t perform well, no matter who she is, the old master won’t allow her to continue. Moreover, she eventually has to return to America, so she probably won’t stay for too long."

He lifted his beautifully sculpted thin lips, teasingly stroking a lock of her hair, "What’s the matter, comforting me? You don’t really think that I’m afraid of a woman who’s about your age, do you?"

Her almond-shaped eyes flickered slightly, and she gently swatted his hand away.

Having reigned in the business arena for so many years, even ten Su Yans wouldn’t match up to him.

But—what if Su Yan had come prepared?

She couldn’t help voicing her suspicion, "...I always feel that Su Yan alone wouldn’t have the thought and courage."

Su Yan wasn’t foolish and would have self-awareness. Even if she managed to get into the Huo Group by force, she definitely couldn’t outplay Huo Zhenyang. In the end, she would still be kicked out.

But, what if she had someone backing her up from behind?

He narrowed his deep-set eyes, not expecting that this little woman could harbor the same suspicions as himself. He countered, "Are you suggesting that someone is behind the scenes, guiding her step by step, on how to win over my dad and then enter Huo Group?"

She nodded.

A glint of coldness, like that of a hawk’s, flashed through his eyes, swiftly disappearing.

After a long silence, Auntie Li came out with the freshly heated meals, breaking the quiet between them:

"Young Master, the food is ready, please eat first."

Huo Zhenyang regained his composure, said nothing further, and took her hand, leading her toward the dining room.

Seeing that he had been busy all day, she did not say anything.

What did all that matter right now? The most important thing wasn’t Su Yan, but rather—matters relating to having a child.

The two took their seats at the dining table.

Huo Zhenyang picked up his chopsticks.

Today, Su Yan had gone to Haodu, where Huo Zhenyang introduced her to the employees of the building. He had been in meetings from the afternoon until evening.

Before the meetings, as usual, his secretary had ordered some fast food to the conference room.

He had eaten something to stave off hunger, so he wasn’t particularly hungry now and ate at a leisurely pace.

Jiayi guessed that the soup on the stove should be about ready by now, entered the kitchen, put on heat-resistant gloves, and brought the soup out.

When she arrived at the table and before she even put down the soup, she saw that he had already put down his chopsticks and was wiping his mouth with a napkin.

She was surprised, "You’re done eating?"

"I’m full. I’ll eat no more," he stood up.

In haste, she placed the soup on the table and pushed him back down, "No way. Drink the soup before going upstairs."

He looked at her suspiciously, "I’m full."

"Even if you’re full, you can still eat!" she said while quickly ladling the soup and placing it before him.

He remained firm, "I already told you, I’m full."

He had always eaten in moderation, a habit he’d developed over the years; insisting on only eating until seven or eight parts full was beneficial to his health.

Stuffing himself further when he was already full? He wasn’t a trash can.

"One bowl is going to kill you?" she said, seeing he was unmoved and becoming somewhat anxious.

He frowned, glancing at the soup and smelling a distinct scent of Chinese herbal medicine, it seemed he guessed a part of her intentions.

Seeing that he wasn’t resisting, she quickly scooped a spoonful, extended her hand forward, and tried to feed him:

"Just one bowl... come on, try a sip. Actually, it tastes quite good... smell it, it’s fragrant, very nutritious, right?... Come on, have a taste. If it tastes good, you can drink a bowl every day."

Her tone was like that of cajoling a child, and he felt an urge to strangle her. Raising his hand, he caught her slender wrist midair, his face turning stern:

"What else did you add to the soup? Tell me the truth."

She giggled mischievously, "What are you talking about?"

"Tell me." His voice became sharper.

Why so fierce?

She reined in her smile, and finally said, "The traditional medicine practitioner said that if you drink this soup for a few treatment cycles, your... quality will improve, and the baby that’s born will have particularly good health."

If the child was to donate umbilical cord blood to her brother, of course, it needed to be healthy.
