Chapter 510: Chapter 508 Zaizai is Waiting for Her

The confidant saw Yan Bin’s eyes turn red with anger, but hesitated, "Vice Mayor, killing that kid probably won’t mean anything."

"Ha, meaningless? Then what should we do with the kid? Surely you’re not suggesting we just send the child back! He wants me dead? Fine, even if I die, I still have to take someone with me, to kill his godson!" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

After thinking for a few seconds, the confidant said, "Vice Mayor, if I may speak frankly, you know what kind of person Huo Shao is—cold and heartless. How could he possibly care about a godson who is not his own flesh and blood? Moreover, as you have seen, Huo Shao doesn’t care about this child at all. Even if you kill the child and send him the video, I doubt he would take it seriously. It would be a waste of effort!"

"Then what do you suggest we do!" Yan Bin frowned, knowing there was some truth to what his confidant said.

"If you ask me, Vice Mayor, your ultimate goal is still to leave the country smoothly as soon as possible. Otherwise, if the police and the Longding Society’s people find you, that would be terrible. Right now, it’s best not to completely fall out with Huo Shao and to use the kid to properly negotiate with him."

Yan Bin scoffed, "Tsk, didn’t you see? Huo Shao won’t even answer my calls. He doesn’t care about the little brat at all. Negotiate? How can we negotiate!"

The confidant’s eyes spun swiftly, "Why don’t we bring the kid’s mommy here and have her help us negotiate with Huo Shao! Her son is in our hands; she’ll definitely come and she’ll definitely help the Vice Mayor negotiate! With two hostages in hand, our bargaining power in the negotiations increases. If Huo Shao still refuses, then—"

While speaking, he gestured to his neck, making a throat-cutting motion, "It won’t be too late!"

Yan Bin’s mind stirred, and he stroked his chin, "That’s right, I saw it that day at the Shengjing Hotel’s political banquet—Huo Shao attended with this kid’s mommy. It’s obvious Huo Shao is quite exceptional to that woman, otherwise, why would he bring a common little lady to such an important event?

Although that woman might not necessarily be able to persuade Huo Shao to help me, there’s no other option left now!"

"Fine, you go and handle it." Yan Bin’s face darkened as he gave the order!

With Fang Yao driving, Jiayi and Xia Tingxuan searched all over Yunling for two or three days but still couldn’t find any trace of Zaizai.

There was no news from the police station either.

Jiayi was almost in despair.

Finding someone is most crucial within the first seventy-two hours; after that, the chances of success are slim.

And now, we’re almost at the end of those critical seventy-two hours... yet there is not a single piece of information about Zaizai.

Zaizai, where on earth are you...

In the afternoon, as usual, the three of them returned from visiting several of Yunling City’s busier train stations, just as fruitlessly as in the previous days.

Before they could walk through the gate of the Green Island Garden community, Jiayi felt all the strength drain from her body. Not having had a proper meal for days, she felt dizzy and light-headed and stopped walking.

"Jiayi," Fang Yao hurriedly steadied her.

Xia Tingxuan was also distressed but, not wanting her daughter to suffer more, comforted her, "Jiayi, why don’t you go back and get some sleep, rest up properly, and we’ll continue searching tomorrow, okay?"

But could continuing this search yield any results?

Jiayi’s eyelashes fluttered, her eyes brimming with confusion and fear, and she felt a deep sense of guilt.

If she really couldn’t find Zaizai again, or if something had happened to him, what should she do...

It was her fault, she hadn’t watched her son closely enough. If only she hadn’t gone to pick up Zaizai that day, if only he had taken the school bus home, or if only she could have arrived at the kindergarten earlier, perhaps Zaizai wouldn’t have been taken!

If Heaven granted her another chance, she swore, she would bring Zaizai back no matter what the cost!

Her body stood frozen in place, unable to move a step. Fang Yao felt her body trembling.

Just then, the cell phone in Jiayi’s hand vibrated.

Because she was waiting for results from the police station at any moment, she hadn’t been apart from her phone for the past three days. Instinctively, her eyes lit up, and without looking at the screen, she answered, "Hello—"

Xia Tingxuan and Fang Yao held their breath too, staring at Jiayi full of hope. These past few days, every phone call carried the hopes of all of them; it could be news of Zaizai’s whereabouts.

A strange male voice came from the other end, "Miss Chu, hello. You must be very anxious these days searching for your son, it must be quite tough."

Jiayi’s heart almost leaped out of her chest, sensing that the caller was the person who had taken Zaizai. Just as she was about to speak, the other side detected her agitation and quickly interjected:

"Miss Chu, is there anyone with you right now? If there is, I hope you can talk to me alone. Don’t let anyone notice. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee your son will stay well."

Jiayi suppressed her wildly beating heart and calmed her expression as if nothing was amiss, and spoke softly to her mother and Fang Yao, "I’ve got a call I need to take. Mom, you and Fang Yao must be tired. Go rest inside."

Xia Tingxuan eyed her with suspicion, "Jiayi, who is it?"

"It’s from the police station, there are some details they need to carefully ask me about. I’ll just talk downstairs, and take a walk in the garden of the compound to clear my mind. Fang Yao has been very tired these past days, Mom, please help me take care of her," Jiayi said as casually as she could manage.

Xia Tingxuan and Fang Yao exchanged glances and seeing her insistence, they turned and went inside the compound ahead of her.

As the figures of the two women receded, Jiayi covered the phone, and in the moment she turned around, her face changed and she lowered her voice, "Who the heck are you? Is Zaizai in your hands? What do you want? Don’t you hurt him!"

"Miss Chu, as long as you do us a favor, we naturally won’t harm your son," the strange man’s voice hissed like a venomous snake spitting its poison.

Jiayi could almost hear her teeth clashing together, "What can I possibly do for you?"

"Come and we can talk slowly. Harbor Warehouse District, Warehouse number sixty-nine, please come alone, and don’t let anyone know. If you bring people or tell a third person, you will see your son’s corpse."

With a bang, the call ended.

Jiayi shivered, snapped to her senses, and, without hesitating, dashed to her mini that hadn’t yet been parked in the garage, dove into the car, and sped toward the Harbor Warehouse District!

As she rushed along the road, only one thought occupied her mind, Zaizai was waiting for her.

The Harbor Warehouse District was near the sea, quite far from downtown, in a remote location. As the sun was setting and night descended, Jiayi finally arrived at her destination.

In the darkness, rows of large metal warehouses gleamed with a cold luster, like giant graves, lonely, pitch-dark, without a shred of light, eerily quiet.

Most of them were abandoned warehouses; a small part were unused and hadn’t been tended to for a long time.

Just thinking that Zaizai might have spent the past two or three days here, Jiayi’s heart was in a tangle.

She got out of the car, slammed the door shut, mustered her courage, and walked along the road until she stopped in front of the gate of Warehouse number sixty-nine.
