Chapter 352: Chapter 350 Farewell to Me

Chu Xinyue collapsed onto the bed with a "bang", not having time to say anything before Ya Chen had already donned his coat. He pushed himself up with his upper limbs on the edge of the bed and sat down in the wheelchair beside him.

"Ya Chen, where are you going?" Chu Xinyue, seeing him looking like he was about to go out, hurriedly got up.

Ya Chen had already reached the door, and with a lift of his arm, the door creaked open. The light from outside spilled onto his profile, making the contours of his face appear colder and harder than ever: "What business is it of yours where I go?"

Chu Xinyue, barefooted, jumped out of bed and ran a few steps to catch up with him but then stopped, not daring to come too close, fearing it might provoke an even deeper revulsion: "Today is our wedding night, at the very least, you should stay with me tonight..."

"Being with you for one night makes me want to vomit." Ya Chen pressed the forward button without any more hesitation.

Chu Xinyue stood still for a moment, feeling as if her heart had split into pieces. Her slender, snow-white toes struggled to grip the carpet, and she had to lean against the wall to keep from sliding down.

After a long while, the young woman’s throat let out a wounded animal-like moan, and the tears she had held back all night finally burst forth.

——

The black sedan stopped in front of the highest-rated hotel in the city.

The driver glanced at the quiet man behind him, got out of the car, entered the hotel, explained his purpose at the front desk, and waited in the lobby for someone to come down.

A call from the front desk, and fifteen minutes later, Jiayi emerged from the elevator.

The moment she saw that the person who had come to find her in the middle of the night was the driver from the Ya family, she was slightly taken aback before approaching him.

"Miss Chu. The Crown Prince wishes to see you," the driver glanced at the hotel’s transparent floor-to-ceiling windows and the motorhome parked outside in the night.

Jiayi’s breath hitched: "Today is his big day; shouldn’t he be in..."

Ya Chen left Chu Xinyue in the bridal room and ran out?

"Miss Chu, I am simply following the Crown Prince’s orders," said the driver.

For both emotional and rational reasons, Jiayi knew she no longer had any reason to meet with Ya Chen, but as her gaze dropped to her abdomen, her thoughts stirred, and she walked out of the hotel.

The driver opened the car door, shielding half of Jiayi’s face with his arm to avoid being spotted.

After all, it wasn’t good news for the people of S Country or the media to see their Crown Prince meeting with another woman at a hotel instead of spending the wedding night with his bride in their room.

Jiayi bent down and got into the back seat of the car.

For several minutes, they both sat in silence, unable to find the words to say.

Both of them thought the person sitting beside them was supposed to be their spouse on their wedding day. A swap on the day itself had altered both of their lives.

A flicker crossed Ya Chen’s eyes, his eyelashes drooped, casting a shadow over his eyelids as he let out a silent, self-deprecating laugh. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

He had thought he would marry her today, but now he found himself to be her brother-in-law instead.

Could there be anything more ironic in the world?

Neither of them mentioned the wedding day switch, as if everything was understood without words.

Finally, Ya Chen was the one to break the silence, easing the tension a bit: "I heard your biological mother came to Nanga and is now living with you. Did I also hear correctly that your mother has been... confined by Madam Chu over the years?"

"Yes," Jiayi replied.

Ya Chen took a deep breath: "Jiayi..."

Jiayi knew he wanted to comfort her, but she did not need comfort at the moment. Gathering her courage, she got straight to the point: "Ya Chen, I’m sorry."

Ya Chen knew what she was about to say. Indeed, ever since he learned that Xuan Yu had held Jiayi’s mother captive for years, he realized that Jiayi had approached him and agreed to marry him only because she had been threatened by Xuan Yu.

He didn’t want to hear her apologies; she had nothing to be sorry for.

All it ever was, was his one-sided wishful thinking.

The night wind breezed through the cracks of the car window, dissipating the heat in Ya Chen’s heart.

Ya Chen wore a faint smile, "You have done nothing wrong to me, rather it was I who almost became an accomplice in threatening you alongside Xuan Yu."

Jiayi looked at the young man of noble status, the beautifully contoured half-profile of his hair by his temples, his tall nose, and his thin lips. From the beginning until now, he had shown her nothing but the utmost tolerance and respect.

Perhaps, this is the temperament one with true noble blood should possess.

The identity of this man could fulfill the yearnings and dreams of all the women in the world. Even with a disability, it wouldn’t affect women’s obsession with him, like Chu Xinyue.

Unfortunately, she was not blessed enough to enjoy his tolerance in this lifetime.

Because she knew she did not love him.

Love? Her thoughts stirred, and there in her heart, a tiny movement, as if scratched by a claw, pulled tautly.

It was as if the mention of the word "love" made her think of someone. Then, in a moment, she smiled silently to herself, lost in her own thoughts once again.

She quickly collected her emotions, tentatively saying, "Ya Chen..."

"Hmm?"

After three seconds of silence, she bit her lip and finally asked the question that was her reason for seeing him, "When I stayed at the Ya Family’s residence, did we ever... get ’intimate’?"

Jiayi spoke with discretion, but Ya Chen understood what ’intimate’ meant. His nose, elegant as a Greek statue’s, flushed slightly, "No."

She felt relieved.

She knew Ya Chen would never lie to her; it confirmed what she thought—the child in her womb couldn’t possibly be related to Ya Chen.

Maybe it was just as her father had said, the consequence of a sinful relationship she had indulged in to avoid an arranged marriage?

"What’s wrong?" Ya Chen didn’t understand why she would suddenly ask such a question.

Caught off guard by his question, what could she say, that she was pregnant and didn’t know whose child she was carrying?

She had already hurt Ya Chen; was she supposed to twist the knife now?

After a while, she forced a bright smile, "It’s nothing. It’s getting late; you should go back. I’m leaving too."

In the moment she turned to push the car door open, before even stepping out, the hand she had behind her was caught by Ya Chen, who tugged her back resolutely.

The strength of his grip was firm and decisive.

She turned to face him, looking into his eyes but not breaking free from his strong grasp.

There were no lights on inside the car, and with his back to the moonlight streaming in from the window, his features appeared jade-like under the soft matte glow. His eyes curved, a hint of a smile at the corner of his lips:

"Jiayi, say farewell to me, please."

This was his first love, though it was unrequited, though it was a huge misunderstanding, not discovering until now that the one who had saved him wasn’t her. Yet, she still became the first woman to ever stir his emotions.

Jiayi felt an inexplicable sourness in her throat, she clasped his hand back, embraced him, and whispered in his ear, "I hope you live well, and I will do the same."

After a dozen or so seconds, they let go of each other and created distance.

Jiayi gave him one last look, "Goodbye." Then she opened the car door, got out, but didn’t walk far, just stood at the side of the road.

She wanted to watch Ya Chen leave, even though he couldn’t see her standing there. But she knew, he should understand how she felt.
