Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 93—Brutality
Cole tried his best to compose himself and keep his mind from running extremely far.
He had expected to not hear something pleasant, but he still tried his utmost best not to go too far in his head before even experiencing it.
He knew that would be extremely deleterious for his emotional state, and he couldn’t afford any accidents now.
He hadn’t even completely grasped the problem with not being able to access the Codex in the future.
Cole kept his mind straight and calm while he tried following the path the others made while they were leaving.
When he was just about to leave the room, Cole’s eyes immediately caught sight of something.
In a slightly hidden corner of the room, something gleamed under the little bit of light.
Cole didn’t waste time and quickly went to check what was there.
"Your smartness seemed to be working against you now," Cole said in a low voice.
In his hands was what looked to be Micheal’s Academy watch. Cole didn’t know how things usually went when a student gets expelled, so he didn’t know if this was normal or not.
"He must have left this behind to avoid getting tracked by the academy, but now that’s how I will find you."
Cole didn’t waste any time, and he left the room totally with the watch in hand.
Retracing his steps and following the path of others, he walked for a short while before he could see the others waiting for him in front of a small building.
This building was extremely small and very dark. Without even getting close, Cole could feel the dark energy present inside him acting up slightly.
His face grew panicked as he stopped to feel any changes in himself. He soon breathed out a sigh of relief as it appeared the energy was just slightly resonating and nothing was really going on.
The others watched him stop in his tracks with a strange face, and just as Linda was about to speak up, he resumed his movements.
A few more steps later, Cole arrived in front of the others. He could observe the expression on his teammates’ faces, giving him a slight idea of what was going on.
"Try your best to remain calm," Bryan whispered.
Cole froze slightly upon hearing that, but he quickly recomposed himself.
"Let’s head in," he said in a low voice.
With that, the three of them are accompanied by the man heading back into the dark building.
No one had to tell Cole for him to activate his Eyes of Scrutiny in such an environment.
He was hit with a bit of dizziness, but since he only slightly activated it, he could stay steady and not show any distress.
Cole looked around the first room in the building; all around him was dark energy radiating from literally everywhere.
It was extremely dense, much more than what he saw in Doctor Thomas’s building.
"This looks even more crazy," he said.
The two noticed the gold in his eyes, so they weren’t lost as to why he was saying that.
To them this was just an empty room with nothing special about it.
"This is where the real problem is," Bryan said while he led Cole to another room.
Upon getting to the room, Cole couldn’t believe what he was seeing in front of him.
Blood littered everywhere in the room, from the floor to the ground.
While some of the blood had dried up, some were still fresh. The blood everywhere shrouded the room in a thick smell of blood that was extremely difficult to ignore.
Despite all the blood, Cole was unable to see any remains or anything that looked to belong to any kid.
This gave him a little bit of relief and also a lot of worry.
"Though it isn’t good news, it gives me a little hope," he muttered.
The others were quite shocked to see Cole keeping his cool so much since they knew how much he cared.
Seeing him keep his cool like that actually made them even more worried.
The first time they were here, they almost threw up everywhere, but they could see Cole being unfazed about it.
"What must he have gone through to be unfazed by this?" Linda thought to herself.
Cole looked at the center of the room, where a small chair stood quietly.
Cole knew there must be something about it, because it looked completely out of place.
"Have you guys tried observing that thing?" Cole asked the others.
"We were too averse to attempt such a thing," Linda said.
"I will go and check it now."
Cole left the entrance, and with a step at a time, he went further into the room.
Cole’s footwear was stained by all the blood, but he didn’t mind at all. He just continued to head deeper into the room.
His Eyes of Scrutiny was still active, so he could see more than the others.
Cole wanted to get a closer look at something he had seen from the entrance.
A spot of extremely condensed Dark energy, looked to be behind the chair.
The closer to the chair Cole got. The more he could see. The condensed dark energy was spinning quietly while creating undulations that looked to be affecting space.
Before Cole could get close enough to see what was actually going on.
He finally stopped in his tracks.
The sudden stop even produced a recoil force that almost knocked Cole to the ground.
He tried his best to remain stable while he looked in front of him.
Even using the Eyes of Scrutiny, Cole couldn’t see anything in front of him, so he was quite shocked when he couldn’t see anything in front of him.
He pushed his hand forward gently to try to pass through, but his hands were met with an invisible barrier too.
"What is this?" he asked while looking behind him.
He looked behind him to check on his teammates, but he was disappointed when all he could see behind him was total darkness.
"Not again," Cole said in fear.
