Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 87—Anomaly
Cole looked around in the darkness trying to find any other thing apart from the shiny point of light in the distance.
He was soon disappointed, though, as the only thing in his immediate surroundings was plain darkness.
The darkness was extremely uncomfortable for Cole since it felt alive, like it could swallow him if he stayed for too long.
"Where is this, and how did I get here?" Cole asked again.
His mind tried thinking of answers to his questions, but he just couldn’t find any.
"What is that point of light?" he asked again.
He tried moving his body as best as he could towards the distant point, but after a long while of weird motions, he barely moved an inch.
"This isn’t working, how do I get there then?"
He thought back to where he last remembered himself to be, and a new point came to his mind.
"Could this space be associated with the Codex?"
The more he thought about it, the more likely it became.
"It must be."
"If it was associated with the Codex, then this must be in my mind."
"I should be able to control it,"
With that line of thought, Cole decided to act in line with that thought.
He willed it in his mind to get as close as possible to the point of light.
He felt a little mental exhaustion, but his goal was soon achieved.
He found himself just below the point of light. Upon closer inspection, Cole observed the light much closer.
Just like he thought, the light was actually the codex. It floated violently above, resulting in Cole frowning slightly.
The floating Codex was much more different than what he usually saw.
"Something is wrong," Cole said worriedly.
The usual golden color of the codex was now tinted with a red color.
Violent red lightning flashed all across the book. The book looked to be in a tiff with something else.
Like it was fighting something or even itself.
The air around the codex felt heavy while it battled.
Cole felt extremely tense by the sight in front of him, but he tried his best to remain calm.
Cole observed the reaction in front of him with extreme caution, and what he observed made things easier a little bit.
The golden light of the codex looked to be winning over the red part, and the red was slowly disappearing and fading away.
"What could have caused such a thing?" Cole asked in fear.
Since he has had the codex, he hasn’t thought such a thing was possible.
In an attempt to find an answer to his questions. Cole thought deeply on all the weird events that had happened to him lately.
After he thought, there was only one thing he could point out to be the cause of such a scenario.
"I can think of just a single thing," Cole said.
"Could it be because of my emotional state?"
"If it weren’t for their intervention, I would have gone deeper into that abyss," Cole said.
"I must thank them then,"
Now he looked back up at the Codex, and he realized most of the red had completely disappeared.
"New rule of the codex,"
"I need to watch my emotional state extremely well."
Despite not knowing what would happen if he completely lost it, he couldn’t afford to find out now.
He didn’t even know how or why his emotional state affected the codex, but he could only accept.
After a while, Cole observed the codex had returned to a completely normal state. It was just quietly floating above his head.
"Finally, it is over."
After breathing a sigh of relief, Cole attempted to interact with the codex, but he found out he couldn’t.
It was as if there was a barrier directly stopping him from doing anything with it.
Cole kept on trying, but he could only eventually give up.
"I hope the effects of this aren’t too severe," Cole thought.
Suddenly, he felt his body growing increasingly heavier, and the distance between him and the Codex widened extremely fast.
"It is over, uhh," he thought.
In the familiar hall where Cole fell asleep, the sun had begun rising from the horizon. Slightly illuminating the hall.
Bryan and Linda still sat there analyzing the data that they were provided.
They hurriedly looked up from the papers as they heard some movement from not too far away.
"I think he is waking up," Bryan said.
They both rose to their feet and approached Cole.
Cole was slowly getting up as his eyes fluttered awake. The moment he opened his eyes.
He saw both Linda and Bryan standing above him.
"Guys," he said softly.
The two of them looked down, and Cole, as a soft smile formed on their faces.
"He doesn’t have the murderous gaze anymore," Bryan thought. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Now, Cole had completely gotten himself up, and he had sat up from the ground.
"Thank you, guys."
"You all really helped me more than you could think," he said with a face filled with gratitude.
"Stop being all soft here, peasant; we have a mission to do," Linda berated with a smile.
"You are right, let’s begin," Cole said while getting up on his feet.
"While you were asleep, we have gone through the information, and we have gotten some vital information."
Cole’s eyes immediately lit up the moment he heard that; he immediately became invigorated and ready for action.
"Thank you again, guys, but before we begin that mission, there’s something I have to do first.
His mind was still very worried about the mission, but he felt even more worried about the Codex.
He needs to take care of important things like that so he can take care of other things.
"I need to check on the codex," Cole thought.
"Excuse me, please," he said to the others while he left.
"Tsk, acting all mysterious," Linda said with a frustrated face.
In the other room, Cole sat somewhere while he tried to regulate his breathing and control his nervousness.
Cole attempted to summon the Codex, but nothing happened. A frown slowly formed on his face while he thought.
"What’s wrong with the Codex?" he thought in fear.
