Chapter 163: Divine Dragon [1] — Seraphine VS Mirai

-----

Lady Seraphine stared at her opponent in disbelief. She had never imagined she would be fighting someone everyone dismissed as a poor, fragile thing—someone destined to be exploited as a mere resource, an unfortunate victim of her own powers who would likely surrender without a struggle and accept death.

Yet the Mirai before her was utterly transformed. This was no longer the original girl. She had been forged in the crucible of Louis’s brutal training, hardened further by repeated brushes with death, and now burned with ruthless fury toward the very people responsible. They stood right in front of her.

Mirai was enraged. Louis wasn’t the only one who wanted to tear the soldiers of the Vultarn High Dominion apart. Frostbane was her home—the nation founded by Benladra, whom she regarded as an aunt—and the kingdom where everyone she loved and cherished lived. It was the country Louis adored with all his heart.

So although Mirai had always possessed a gentle nature, necessity had sharpened her into something far more merciless. Perhaps Louis had also passed some of his own edge to her.

That was why Seraphine struggled so desperately. She faced a Mirai who no longer cared who her opponent was, who refused to hold back or show mercy. She fought with everything she had—every lesson learned across several lifetimes.

"You’re such a despicable thing! Who...! Who do you think you are?!"

Seraphine screamed in desperation and frustration as Mirai relentlessly pursued her. The Inner Circle member of the Vultarn High Dominion kept shifting through space to evade her grasp, yet she never truly fled. Instead she tried to strike back. She still believed she could win—if only she could reach Mirai without being pulverized first.

But that alone was an enormous challenge, especially against this new, battle-hardened Mirai who understood her powers intimately and wielded them without hesitation or restraint.

"Where do you think you’re going?! Face me!"

Mirai smashed empty air. Space cracked and shattered as the spatial pathway Seraphine had woven with her Grievance powers collapsed.

"Y-You can shatter space?!"

"No, but I could see your path and simply stomped it."

"That’s literally what I—"

BAAAM!

Mirai slammed her right fist into Seraphine’s face, then her left, right, left, right, pounding her face and chest relentlessly. Demonic flames scorched her flesh while chaotic miasma caused it to rot and decay.

BAAAM! BAAAM! BAAAM! BAAAM!

"Nnngaaaahhh! STOOOP! YOU BRUTEEE!"

Seraphine screamed and exploded into a gigantic mass of vines that burst outward. Red roses bloomed across them, each flower bearing an eye that fired dozens of beams at Mirai.

Mirai endured the barrage by reinforcing her body with Demonic Power. Her Aura of Chaos weakened the beams the moment they struck.

With a casual wave, she summoned hundreds of small Chaos Spirits—dark, shadowy blobs with glowing red eyes. They coalesced into a dense sphere of pure chaos that she hurled at her enemy.

"Chaos Nova."

BOOOMMM!!!

A massive black hole tore open space and began devouring Seraphine’s body, slowly ripping it apart. She channeled Fantasium through her claws, disrupting and then stabilizing the surrounding space—but the spell persisted, detonating into chaos flames that burned her alive.

"I fought the original owner of the Grievance you tamed. He was far stronger than you."

"SHUT UP!"

Seraphine hissed. Suddenly she summoned several other Authorities stored within her Fantasy Heart. Dozens of colorful geometric crystals sprouted and began corrupting and distorting space around them.

Mirai struck her again, but her own arm erupted with the same crystals. At the same moment, hundreds of floating cubes, triangles, pyramids, and circles made of those crystals rained down on her relentlessly.

"Hmph!"

Mirai didn’t flinch. She advanced through the onslaught, pushing her body to its absolute limit and shifting into her half-demon form. Her hair ignited with demonic and chaotic fire. Long horns sprouted from her forehead. With her enhanced physique, she kicked the ground hard enough to shatter it and closed the distance in an instant. Her hands split into six, each growing long, blazing claws that tore through Seraphine’s plant-like body.

"Nngh!"

Seraphine retaliated by transforming her legs into long, spider-like limbs of ink. She spread them wide, instantly summoning a pocket Fantasy Field where black paint flooded the surroundings. Using her new limbs, she painted dozens of gigantic black hands with red eyes that immediately chased after Mirai.

Each hand tried to crush her. The ink constantly drained her Fantasium and weakened her further. Mirai clenched her teeth and swung her fists forward, manifesting dozens of Demonic Spears. The spell she had created in her past life—Gae Bolg, once used to destroy the Abyssal Dragon Tree of Ruin—was now inherited through her very bones, simplified into a devastating technique.

Her spears pierced and impaled the Living Paintings while her Fantasium Aura shielded her from Mind Corrosion. As a Spiralwalker now, her Incarnation—previously fused with her—manifested outside her body and fought at her side, laughing with malicious glee.

"You’re a Spiralwalker too, damn it...!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Seraphine’s half-vine face sprouted sharp golden spikes and red roses with glaring eyes. She stared at Mirai in fury, stunned by the girl’s unbelievable talent and power.

"Verlan is likely dead—my connection to her is gone...! And the rest? Are they all dead too? Veynar? And that other guy whose name I don’t remember...?"

Using Entity Drones she had left scattered across the city; Seraphine surveyed the battlefield and confirmed the nightmare truth. Not only was The Gardener gone from Nameless Streets, but the rest of the Vultarn High Dominion soldiers were either slain or captured. The two other Generals left to handle the capital’s heavy hitters were dead as well.

"This can’t be happening. We planned this for so long—this mission to finally seize Frostbane’s capital was supposed to earn me immense renown in the Dominion...! D-Do I really have to retreat?! Me?! An Inner Circle member?! What will the Order of the Fly think when I return empty-handed, with the Generals and Verlan dead before we accomplished anything?!"

While clenching her teeth and biting her nails in frustration and disbelief, she unleashed dozens of lasers from every part of her body, desperately trying to force Mirai back.
