Special Forces Medic-Chapter 839 - 812: Hua the Demon
Overnight, the North District began to slowly change from a chaotic period. This change did not bring much inconvenience to the people living there, but some people were sent away from their original living areas, some fell from their previous status to that of commoners, and some vanished silently from their previous circles of life. Such transformations took less than twenty-four hours to complete.
Even when Xiao Lin was still in a daze, his sweet little woman got him up. She, usually a late riser, was surprisingly early today, and a hot breakfast was already on the table. The most unexpected person was already sitting at the dining table.
Xiao Lin didn't have a terribly bad mood when getting up, but seeing the eyesore, he still felt a bellyful of anger. His loose pants hung at his hips, and as he moved, the muscles on his body rippled. Though his figure was enticing, his face was sullen.
"Go take a shower and come out to eat." Xia Xue affectionately hooked Xiao Lin's arm and pushed him into the bathroom.
"No!" Like a sulky child, Xiao Lin pulled Xia Xue into his embrace and then pointed at the person at the dining table. "Why is he here?"
"I invited him for breakfast. Uncle Hua and Secretary Luo have already gone to the district government. Qing Yi said he was hungry, so I brought him over to eat together. We made a bit too much anyway." It was rare to see Xiao Lin acting cute, and Xia Xue laughed, nestled against him.
"Hey, Hua the Monster, do you know how high your wattage is right now? Take your breakfast back to your room and eat it!"
Hua Qingyi almost spat out the porridge he just drank at the mention of "monster." This term was coined by Xiao Lin not long after they met, and bringing it up now certainly has some historical significance.
"Xiaoxue, why don't you get this guy back in bed to calm him down? He seems still unsatisfied."
"What nonsense are you saying!" Xia Xue's face flushed red immediately, noticing the arms around her tightened a bit.
"Hua the Monster, stop bullying my wife." Xiao Lin glared fiercely at Hua Qingyi, reluctantly kissed Xia Xue's lips before entering the bathroom. He still maintained some decorum, although he really wanted to savor the taste of his woman once more upon waking. It's all the fault of that monster outside, coming over for no reason. Despite the resentment, he quickly dressed and sat down at the breakfast table.
"The old man has already gone to the district mayor's office with Brother Luo. I guess Sword Edge will take action soon. I've instructed Guo Liang to keep a close watch on those few people; if they show any signs of attempting to leave, arrest them. Kill without mercy if necessary." Xia Xue's cooking skills were alright, but compared to Dan Qing, she still had a long way to go. "Sister-in-law, why didn't you bring Dan Qing? It's been a long time since I had her cooking."
"Be content!" Xia Xue placed a piece of beef into Xiao Lin's bowl. "She was still doing rehabilitation exercises before I came. Sister Jing said Dan Qing still needs some time to recuperate. Niu Niu is on vacation and accompanies her every day, they're absolutely thrilled. Do you still want to drag her over here to be your housemaid?"
"Listen, bro, sister-in-law is openly despising me. She cares more for outsiders than for her poor brother-in-law." Hua Qingyi feigned grievance and pity, while Xiao Lin simply opened the newspaper, completely ignoring him. "Really a dull guy, would it kill you to play along? Sister-in-law, is it interesting being with this log? How's his prowess in bed?"
Just as the words fell, a cold fruit knife was already embedded beside Hua Qingyi's plate, effectively silencing his incessant chatter since morning.
"I'm heading back downtown later. There's a fashion show today, and I won't be back until tomorrow. The room here is booked for a week. You two can come back and keep Uncle Hua company, he's quite lonely by himself."
"Why come back? It's so dangerous here, just stay in the capital."
"The redevelopment of the North District must proceed. Returning is, of course, for business. Uncle Hua and I have discussed the reconstruction plan, and once you settle things on your end, we'll immediately prepare to recruit partners."
"It's still early, let's delay the redevelopment for a while!"
"Haven't we already caught the people?" Xia Xue didn't understand why Xiao Lin was still so preoccupied.
"Sister-in-law, listen to brother. He won't harm you. It looks like we can wrap things up now, but any single escapee poses a crisis."
"Okay, if that's the case, then I understand." Xia Xue nodded sensibly. She was no longer as willful as before, and as crises increased, so did her capacity to endure. Xiao Lin was engaging in incredibly dangerous work, and she gradually realized that her reckless stubbornness would only make Xiao Lin's enemies see her as a pawn.
Xiao Lin directly went to Beigong to meet with Wu Mian, while Hua Qingyi headed to the district government. They acted separately but were both awaiting news from Sword Edge.
"Director Wu, I want to ask you to identify something." Following Wu Mian around Beigong, the surrounding shops had become empty rooms, awaiting demolition.
"What item requires my identification? With your keen eyesight, I don't dare pretend to be a diamond expert!" Wu Mian wasn't as stern and constrained as typical directors. Around the younger generation, he carried no pretense of authority, his temperament was very gentle, quite unlike Wu Shuang; one was like a T-Rex, the other like a little lamb.
"I think it looks like an antique." Xiao Lin handed Wu Mian the half lock plate Hua Qingyi had picked up last time. "This seems to be a lock plate from a military cargo box. Are there still any troops using such old-style boxes? The serial number on it has worn beyond recognition."
"Oh?"
Wu Mian didn't find it strange. This was already a highly advanced technological society, with many military pieces of equipment phased out batch by batch. Those cumbersome and unfit for combat weapons and equipment were either destroyed or sold to impoverished countries or displayed in military museums.
The lock plate Xiao Lin mentioned belonged to a military cargo box used in the early days after liberation. He had rarely seen such things, only heard about them from older generations of soldiers. The original version of the box was a large wooden container used for storing items, bulky and heavy, making it inconvenient to carry. It had long since fallen out of use, though it had its merits: its sturdiness made it hard to be completely destroyed by ordinary gunfire, and the lock was a solid line of defense. (To be continued.
