People always feel regret only when they have done something irreparable. However, there is no regret medicine in this world, and you are not a god who can turn back time, so you can only slowly perish with regret.

Shuang Shuang thinks he is a pretty good person; he believes he can at least hold out for a while before others arrive, and he thought the person in front of him might hesitate because of his companions. But in fact, there are not so many assumptions, nor so many "at least," and when he is lifted up on the spot, he realizes his calculations mean absolutely nothing to this person.

In terms of coldness, he thinks this person is much colder than he ever was. There's not much time to think about these things. His hands desperately clutch the hand on his neck, leaving him no room to resist; his legs flail wildly, hoping someone will arrive quickly.

"Waiting for reinforcements?" Xiao Lin seemed to have seen through Shuang Shuang's thoughts, he sneered. "You are a man of strategy, but you've used the wrong methods. Where is Yan Juanjuan?"

"Are you not going to save your subordinates?" Shuang Shuang said with difficulty, repeating Xiao Lin's words. He's stalling for time.

"Just like you said, someone who's destined to die—why should I go and save them?"

"Hahaha, you and I are the same kind of people." Shuang Shuang said this, almost gasping for air harder than he was taking it in.

"Where is Yan Juanjuan?"

"There's no such person here." Shuang Shuang shook his head; he has never heard of this name and didn't know there was a woman here.

"Hmm!"

People without any value are like ants crushed underfoot, not worth a backward glance. Feeling the struggle of the person in his hand on the verge of death, Xiao Lin laughed.

With an innocent smile, he tightened his grip bit by bit, watching him slowly die. He never kills people so slowly, even if the person is a wicked villain; he always feels life is valuable, and even in death, it should be swift.

"Boss!" It seemed he heard Wang Xi's faint voice; Xiao Lin's expression changed slightly, ending his game. The sound of bones breaking echoed slowly, piercing the surface.

Such a way to die is painful. Shuang Shuang was no longer able to utter a single word; his bent fingers touched his neck, and the sharpness piercing his bones caused him to scream uncontrollably.

Wang Xi turned his head in shock, paying no attention to the process or the ending, his eyes wide open. The fear before death can awaken a subconscious nature in a person, more piercing than a woman's scream, which abruptly stopped as Xiao Lin tossed Shuang Shuang into the dirt pit.

The dirt pit, which was meticulously constructed to deal with Xiao Lin, was something Shuang Shuang understood more than anyone else. He knew he would die, and it would be soon. Gasping for fresh air, it escaped through the cracks as soon as he inhaled. Like a fish deprived of water, without oxygen, the agony was relentless.

Xiao Lin stuffed Wang Xi's exposed intestines back inside. Hearing the heavy breath from above, he frowned, released Wang Xi's restraints, and placed him on the ground. "Can you still move?"

"Boss, just leave me here, I don't think I'll live long." Wang Xi said in one full breath and began to convulse.

Xiao Lin did not say much, his hand pressing heavily on Wang Xi's abdomen, pulling out a piece of cloth from his backpack. "Didn't you hear them say I'm a doctor? If I let you die from mere tricks, how would I survive in this field?"

"Huh?" Are doctors involved in the underworld now?

Xiao Lin ignored Wang Xi's bewildered expression; having a large hole in his belly while still making nonsensical remarks was a reaction only the people from the North District Police Station would have. They're not normal people! Swiftly, the Silver Needle sewed through both sides of the incision, hesitating in the middle. "This might hurt a bit; if you can't bear it, scream!" Without waiting for Wang Xi to react, Xiao Lin's hands had already pried open his abdomen, moving back and forth inside.

It hurts, immensely! An unbearable pain left Wang Xi without the strength to call out; he seemed to be fished out of water, and the chill of the wind wasn't felt anymore.

Xiao Lin propped Wang Xi up to sit beside him. A beeping sound came from his watch; he adjusted his back position again, glancing at Shuang Shuang, whose body was half-submerged in the dirt pit. His life force was strong; even in suffocation, he continued moving his lips, trying to breathe in the scant air.

"Time's about up." The watch signaled a second time, and Xiao Lin carried Wang Xi, jumping onto the wall.

At the same time, several military vehicles slowly drove in from the road, held back by the gates.

From the intense lights, a guard emerged, puzzled by the sudden appearance of military vehicles, searching around for something as someone already rushed back into the security room to sound the alarm.

The way out wasn't through the back, that would mean passing the dirt pit. Xiao Lin jumped down from the wall, placing Wang Xi in a dark corridor, discreetly hidden.

Two people got off the military vehicle with weapons and ammunition on their backs, expressionlessly demanding the guard open the gate.

"What's going on?" A booming voice shouted from afar, and soon the man was in front of them. Xiao Lin couldn't help but marvel at the man's speed and inner strength; there were quite a few competent people in this small brick factory. "This is private property. What are you doing here?"

The man stood behind the guard, separated by the iron gate, waiting for a response. From the side, one could see a long scar on his bald head, stitches still visible, indicating the wound was less than four years old. Xiao Lin pondered this, crouched back next to Wang Xi, and reached out to feel his forehead. As expected, just as he predicted, Wang Xi had started to develop a fever.

"Open the gate!" After a brief silence, the soldier calmly stepped forward, presenting a search warrant. The bald man signaled the guard to pass him the document stamped with a red seal, his facial expression twitching.

"What evidence do you have to prove there's illegal trade here?" The bald man loudly questioned as he had the gate opened, and the vehicle slowly drove into the yard.

"Whether there is or not, you'll find out soon." The people who got off the vehicle entered the building, and the leader took off his leather gloves in front of the bald man. "Where is your person in charge?"

"In the middle of the night, surely they're resting at home." Watching the swift, light-footed people in action, the bald man discreetly signaled to his companions to not act rashly.

"Report, Sir! We've found an injured person!" Two soldiers carried out a person covered in blood from a dark corner, with sticky substances still clinging to them.

"Ha-ha, this..." The officer glanced at the injured person, mockingly making eye contact with the bald man. "Take him away!"

Without further words, guns were drawn, pointed at the bald man. "Resistance means arrest, and lethal force is authorized."

"I don't know this person!"

The officer had already stepped aside, facilitating movement for his subordinates, requiring no explanations or proof of right or wrong. No matter how the bald man screamed, he couldn't prevent his inevitable fate of being taken away.

The military vehicles appeared suddenly and left swiftly. Xiao Lin watched as Wang Xi was loaded onto the vehicle, then turned back into the shadows.

"What do we do? The bald man has been taken away!" The guards were at a loss for what to do.

"Let's find Shuang, the master!"

"No need to search, Shuang Shuang is already dead!" A smell of blood wafted over as someone jumped down from the wall, holding a person's head in hand, with muscles torn off from the neck.

"You... you killed Shuang?"

"Ha-ha!" The bloody scent flashed past Xiao Lin, the emitting aura unavoidable. The head was tossed to the guards, and a bloody hand wiped across the pants. "Close the gate, we still have a little ant."

At those words, the person headed towards Xiao Lin's direction, but was met with an empty space, with the person long gone. The man didn't seem upset, contrary to that, his bloodthirsty eyes glowed dangerously.

While they conversed, Xiao Lin had already moved towards the distant factory building. Guo Liang was a smart man, and according to the plan, Xiao Lin should not appear before him. The real intention was to communicate the complicated situation here, arrangements had been made, and they could take people away, but they never expected someone else would leap out first, conveniently providing another person to question.

In fact, Xiao Lin suspected there was a problem here not because of Wang Xi, but because the environment was very similar to the abandoned brick kilns. However, it seemed improbable for there to be a large underground space, and judging by the transport volume, it truly appeared to be a legitimate brick factory.

"Little ant! Where are you?" The man who had followed Xiao Lin to the factory pushed open the door. His dust-covered shoes landed heavily on the ground, kicking up dirt.

Dawn peeked through the clouds, and today was different from before at the brick factory. As the sun rose from the east, people were expected to enter in succession, yet there wasn't a sound, and the entire dormitory building was shrouded in silence.

"Little ant, I'm here to find you." The deliberately drawn-out tone carried a slight tremble from the throat, resembling the friction sound of a rusty saw dragged across a steel pipe.

Although the dawn brought the first ray of light in the tranquility, it illuminated this place like a dead city. Xiao Lin frowned, doubting whether anyone had truly worked here; it felt lifeless as if life had disappeared overnight.

The factory exceeded height expectations, with a large chimney standing in the center, topped with a small door. The open ground was stacked with kiln bricks, and Xiao Lin noticed an inconspicuous staircase that led upwards. In the air, it created a space of over a hundred square meters, draped in black curtains on all sides. Below, neatly stacked blue bricks awaited. (To be continued.
