Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 529: Disconnected
Jace packed up his equipment in a spare bag he found laying around. Along with as many larger pieces of his sword as he could find. All of the equipment that was magnetically locked onto his armor went into the bag as well. As for his armor, he dematerialized it to hide it. The clothes he had on underneath consisted of a black shirt, a pair of black cargo pants, combat boots, and a hat he found in one of his pockets. All of his gear was unmarked with only his hat having the half skeleton Cerberus symbol on it.
He should try and get a move on as quickly as possible. He needed to get off his island and find the rest of his group as well as a way off the island. Although he could do some research while he was here. It sounded like he might be stuck here for a while.
After he finished his shower he walked down the stairs with the bag in hand. The female lighthouse keeper whose name he still did not know was setting the door in place. "Took you long enough you can leave your-" She stopped mid-sentence as her eyes widened when she saw him. "Oh... you are hot."
Jace frowned as he finished walking down the stairs and raised the bag he packed with his gear. "I hope you do not mind. I grabbed one of your bags that looked older. I might keep it permanently if you permit it or I could get a new one once I turn that hooligan’s body in for cash."
"Oh... you can keep it." She answered with a nod of her head as she looked him up and down with a blush blossoming on her face before she shook her head and turned attention back to the door. "I am just setting up the lock for our- I mean my door and then we can go. I am surprised, you look almost human. But the ears are a giveaway. Are you a branch of Elf or mix?"
"Neither, although I think that question would have been rude if I was." Jace pointed out with a chuckle as he set his bag down and leaned against a cabinet. "I was something called a nanohuman which is a form of modified human. But I eventually evolved into a new form of human called a Spectre."
"Why is your new species named after an apparition?" She asked, clearly genuinely curious as she opened and tested the locking mechanism on her door.
"Because in order to start the evolution process you first have to die. As for why specifically a Spectre. It is because we are a species born specifically for war and fighting." Jace answered as he picked up his bag. It looked like the woman was done with the door so as she opened it again he slipped past her and over to the horse which neighed as he walked up.
"That is certainly something. Most evolutions are discovered either through natural born mutations or experimentations. How do you undergo a mutation without one of those methods?" The woman asked as she stepped into her house.
"Nano machines that are so small a microscope barely even sees it, modifies your body molecule by molecule until you are a completely new race." Jace answered as a thought hit him and he brought up his status with a thought but frowned at the different fainter appearance of the screen as well as a message above it.
[Disconnected from the main system. Running on autopilot.]
That was worrying. I guess that means he could not depend on the nanobots assisting much when he was attacked by something similar. But it was starting to sound like there might not be any on this planet let alone this galaxy that he would have to worry about.

"Nano machines? Should they be called nano machines if they are that small?" She asked as she walked out with a leather jacket that barely hid a side arm and large knife, probably used for hunting. Along with a bag that was clearly full of metal.
"It is just the common name we use. It’s kind of hard to change it when several planets are already calling it that." Jace shrugged as he pulled himself up onto the horse with a grunt. He watched as she walked past him and he raised an eyebrow. "What are you going to ride?"
"I have a stead as well." She answered as she walked over to the woods and whistled loudly towards them before walking over to a small shed that he dismissed as just being a tool shed. She opened it up to reveal a saddle and a few other pieces of riding gear.
He guided his horse over until he suddenly had a shiver down his spine and he spun around and looked at the woods. He narrowed his eyes as he saw a shimmer before suddenly a form emerged from the woods and nothingness.
"You have good instincts. Not to mention, Gaz almost never reveals his real form before anyone." The woman informed him as the lizard-like creature with blue scales glanced at him and flicked out its tongue before kneeling next to the woman and letting her put on the saddle. As she was doing it she seemed to remember something. "Telling you his name reminded me that I still do not know your name... nor do you know mine."
Jace smirked as he patted his new horse. A black steed with a black mane, it shook its head before moving onto the road that led away from the lighthouse and toward what he assumed was the road. "You can call me Jace."
"Then you may call me Liz." She informed him as Gaz caught up with the slow trot that Jace was having the horse go at. "The town near here is a small logging town. Small population of about a hundred. Most of them are criminals so just killing a few like the guy you killed yesterday will not stir up trouble. But the sheriff will put you up on a wanted poster if you kill too many. He lets them run around because they are the backbone of the logging industry. But if they get out of line, no one raises a fuss if they get put down."
"Good that-" He stopped and looked up just as a spacecraft passed overhead. He quickened his horses pace. "I think we should get there more quickly before whoever that is figures out where we are going." He told her as he watched it fly out over the sea over towards roughly where he crash landed. But he could not see it a moment later as he was hidden by the trees.
"Agreed. That must be the Bureau of Investigation. Depending on who they sent, it could mean trouble for the entire island." Liz sighed as she leaned back. "I am getting you to the town and pointing you in the direction of the new city before splitting up. I have my own problems without having to get wrapped up in your nonsense. No offence."
"None taken." Jace shrugged with a smirk. "I get involved in a lot of nonsense." He agreed with a chuckle.

Investigator Sherlock looked out the back of the ship as it hovered over the crash site. "Has your robot reached the wreck?"
"Among others. Yes it has." His mechanic answered as he looked at a screen. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Sherlock walked over and looked at the screen raising an eyebrow as the robot moved through the piece of debris before going around it. "Is that it? Where is the rest of it?"
"That is it. I am not seeing a body either. How did that person survive a crash from orbit?" The mechanic asked in bewilderment.
"Maybe he had help." Sherlock’s assistant pointed out from the pilot’s seat. She was currently flying the ship and keeping it as steady as possible. "Scans show a nearby structure."
"Let’s go take a look. If someone crashed and survived, they might have helped them. Or they might have gone to them for information." Sherlock agreed as he moved back into the ship as a drone launched from the water and landed in the ship.
"The command ship’s commander is attempting to contact us again." His assistant informed him as he joined her near the ship controls.
"Ignore them." He told her. "It is probably political nonsense."
