Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 203: Pathway Dogfight
Jace swerved the ship to the side as another volley of plasma masses flew past them. "Do you understand my plan?" Jace asked as he kept an eye on the enemy ship’s heat signatures.
"Yes Spectre Jace, but I am hoping the translation matrix is off." The Tacole told them as he took up his position near the left side doorway with the Ola on the opposite side of the doorway.
The enemy’s ships lit up as their weapons began heating up. "Here it comes." Jace told them as he prepared to execute his maneuver while dodging the surface to air beams and lasers that were being fired at them. It started happening shortly after the pathway got destroyed. Just about any enemy with surface to air weapons began firing at them, almost like they were given an order to focus on them.
Which unfortunately went against the plan of them going in through the back door without drawing too much attention. But Jace was just as satisfied if he managed to divide the enemies attention. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Just as the enemy aircraft fired, Jace fired the engines and spun the ship midair. They were still flying in the same direction but they were now doing it sideways. He then tilted the nose of the transport down while raising the rear of the transport.
The Tacole and Ola fired in the and he saw one of the enemy attack craft explode. The first explosion started at the attack craft’s weapon. It then spread to the side of the ship and then encompassed the entire thing.
While the plasma masses flew right toward them. Jace had managed to align it perfectly. One of the plasma masses flew under the tail end of the transport. Another flew over the nose of the ship, a third was farther off near the tail end completely missing them. Then the last one flew right through the opening in the ship.
The Tacole and Ola scooted away from the edges as the mass of plasma moved through the middle of the transport. The majority of it sailed right through the open side doors of the transport. There were drops of plasma landing around the area of the transport it passed through.
But because he was preventing energy from running through the ship the plasma quickly stopped melting through the ship, making a few odd shaped dents. He figured it out by watching the plasma mass hit the Elder council soldiers defending the base of the plateau. It uses electricity to increase the plasmas ability to melt through things. He was not completely sure how it worked but he was confident that this was not originally Victorium technology.
Which also meant he had to be really careful about touching him. With all of this electricity running through him he would turn to mush in seconds.
After the masses of plasma cleared the transport he began flying towards the plateau wall. "Sorry, we only managed to get one of them." The Tacole informed him.
Jace grunted, "that is fine. I have another idea. Close those side doors for now." Jace instructed as he flew up the side of the plateau wall confirming through a camera and sensors that the attack craft was following him on his vertical climb.
He could hear the side doors slam along with them making various noises as he flew the transport upwards. After a few moments the remaining attack craft began heating up its weapons again. Jace tapped a few buttons and then the transport began spinning, flipping around so it was flying backwards up the side of the plateau while the nose and the transport’s weapons were pointing at enemy attack craft.
He began firing the transport’s guns just in time as the two plasma masses were unleashed. The resulting explosion of the enemy attack craft’s weapon had the enemy attack craft veering off and slamming into the plateau wall. It exploded before what remained began falling to the base of the plateau.
Jace began swinging the transport around while tilting the ship so the masses of plasma would miss it. But as he did so he veered too close to the plateau wall and nose of the ship bounced off it. When it did is when everything went wrong.
After the transport bounced off the side of the plateau with a screech of metal and rock. They could feel a jolt as something hit another part of the transport. Then the devices in the cockpit of the transport began blaring as one of the main engines went down. It was followed by a secondary explosion which he believed consisted of the fuel line.
"Damn." Jace cursed as they were coming up on the edge of the plateau top. He called out on the squad channel. "Nila, we are not going to be able to cover you when you get to the entrance. We are about to crash on top of the plateau."
"Will you need assistance?" Nila asked through the communication channel.
"Negative." Jace answered with a grunt as the control stick began resisting him as he was struggling to keep it straight. Then as they came flying over the edge of the plateau he took in the layout as he flew towards the tallest structure. "Focus on the mission, we will make do." Jace ordered as he looked back at the other two for a moment. "We are crashing, very hard."
He then managed to raise the nose of the transport just as they slammed into the ground. They went through a few buildings and barricades before slamming to the side of something. The cockpit’s windows were cracked and some were fully broken but he could still clearly see out of it.
They had crashed in the middle of an enemy camp that was hastily set up. The ship leaned up against the side of one of their tanks. They should be able to make it to the church-like building that housed the Elder Council and get to all of the technology from the Requiem.
