Space Odyssey: Spectre-Chapter 200: Jamming Vehicle
As Jace disconnected the enslavement device the second robot got up and jumped towards him. Only for the other one to slam its body into it. The robot he freed pinned the second robot to the wall. Doing just what Jace figured they would do when they were freed. Assist him.
He finished disconnecting the device from the first robot just as he felt heat form on his side. The side of his armor was getting bathed in plasma fire as the special soldiers for the convoy had appeared. Likely drawn in from the battle.
His armor was unable to block the damage since its shields were still down. So he instead felt the heat move through his body. Once again, the attack was not doing any external damage to his armor, but he could feel the heat on that side of his body and it was starting to bother him.
Jace rolled away from his position of pinning the first robot. Pulling the plasma shard sniper rifle off his back. He fired three times in quick succession, causing the weapon to overheat and the cartridge to be empty.
But the attack did its job. All three shards hit the same spot on the front most enemies’ armor. The first one only pushed them slightly back as it made contact. The second one broke the enemy’s armor’s shield. Then the third one went through its armor, killing the enemy.
Jace tossed aside the sniper rifle as he picked up the railgun quickly. Loading it with a shot while he took aim at the Jamming Vehicle. He charged up the railgun just as the enemy realized what he was doing and began firing at him.
VROM!
The impact went through his body as the railgun fired. Leaving a trail of blue electricity for only a moment as the electrified bullet flew through the air and slammed into the side of the vehicle that was jamming communications. It slammed into an area lower on the vehicle that his heads up display indicated was a fuel source of some kind.
BOOM!
An explosion of blue and purple occurred as it was quickly followed up by a yellow and red flame climbing to the sky. Secondary explosions of red flames occurred a second later while Jace turned his attention to the enemies by the door. But he barely had a chance to even calculate his attack when he saw one of the robots from earlier pull one of the enemies through the door and shove its hand through the enemy’s chest.
The enemy Elder Elite forces began screaming in the Victorium language while backing up into the hallway. Around the same time his communication channels sprung to life in his ear. Causing him to flinch in surprise as his ears were assaulted with noise.
"Spectre Jace to Venture, jamming device destroyed but I am going to need back up and some engineer recovery teams. The Elder council is using something the Victorium refers to as Taboo Work." Jace explained as he moved the railgun to his back and took cover behind a piece of furniture.
"Jace this is Isaiah, message received. I am directing Cerberus in your direction as well as a few additional engineer units for cleanup. I will have your next mission for you once the cleanup starts." Isaiah responded over the open channel so everyone could hear it, friend and enemy. Jace watched as the channels he was watching activity for began going crazy. Isaiah intentionally revealed his presence on the High Priestess side to cause fear in their enemies and for moral support for their allies.
Jace picked up the shard plasma sniper rifle and pulled out the empty cartridge. Tossing it aside and putting in a new one. He looked over the side of his cover seeing that they had freed the last of the robots that attacked him. Now they were barricading the door.
Jace turned his attention back to the window and peaked out only to duck back down a second later as a barrage of weapons fire flew through the window. "Jace to Cerberus Squad, what is your eta?" Jace asked as he used the encrypted channel for his new squad.
"Eta?" He could hear over the communication channel. It sounded like a voice in confusion. Took him a moment to process that it was likely one of the Victorium squad members.
"Two minutes," He could almost hear the laughter in Vana’s voice as she responded. "We will arrive in two minutes. Anything we should know?"
Jace looked over at the robots, "yeah. These guys are wearing a special type of armor similar to the Elites. They are wielding weapons from the Requiem. There are also robots with Requiem AI who are enslaved." Jace explained as he moved to another window and peaked out.
Now that the jamming device had been destroyed all of its guards were now focused on killing him. Including the tanks which were turning toward their location. He cursed under his breath as he turned to the robots who had successfully barricaded the door. They were crouched down to avoid being shot.
"There are also tanks." Jace informed his squad while he walked to the wall that had a dent in it. He started touching around looking for a weak spot. Then he materialized his gladius and began cutting into the wall. Slicing it open so a chunk of the wall slammed onto the ground. He then moved into the next room and aimed through the window. While the three robots followed behind him.
Boom!
The three tanks fired at the room he was just in. There was an explosion of dust and debris that filled not just the new room but the outside as well. Stopping him from seeing the enemies. But it also stopped the enemies from seeing him as well. It would do more to delay them then him attacking them would.
This time he cut through the floor of the room. The floor opened up and then he dropped down. Followed by the robots a second later. Seems they had realized he was trying to avoid being seen because their movements were making less noise than before.
Instead of cutting through a wall, he went to the door and opened it up. He looked from side to side for a moment when he heard a beeping noise. It came from his heads up display, it was indicating that his shields were back up. After a second the noise stopped and he started moving again. Heading toward the stairs.
When he arrived at the stairs he was surprised to find an enemy Mar’talic running up them. The Mar’talic was just as surprised as it was to raise its weapon. But Jace’s electrified gladius slid through his head. Jace then aimed at the two enemies behind the Mar’talic and fired off three quick shots with the sniper rifle.
The one directly behind the first one he killed died on the third hit while the furthest one in the back collapsed backwards when his comrade fell on him. Still confused about what just occurred. They were the only three enemies and it seemed like they always traveled in groups of three.
He pulled his gladius from the Mar’talic’s head and dematerialized the gladius. For the moment it did not have a use. It would just get in the way. He walked past the last living member of the trio and waved his hand at him. One of the robots crouched and stabbed its hand through their chest, killing them.
Jace crouched at the bottom of the stairs looking down the hall to make sure there were not any visible enemies. He then looked over his sniper that was cooling off. After another moment he began moving again. Heading toward a door that led outside. Just as he arrived at it the door opened.
This time it was another robot that welcomed his sight. He had to dodge to the side as it reached out a hand. He used the chance to pull the robot inside and toss it to the other robots while he elbowed the door panel. Forcing it to malfunction and slam shut on the people that were just behind the robot.
Two of the robots pinned the enslaved robot to the ground while the third one began pulling off the enslavement device. But as they were doing that he watched another group run in from the other end of the hallway.
He raised and fired a shard of plasma. It hit the soldier in the front of the pack’s weapon. The weapon exploded in plasma fire causing it to scream in pain. While the one behind it fired its own weapon at Jace. The plasma bolt broke against the yellow hexagonal pattern of his armor’s shield that appeared.
He moved to a corner and began firing from that corner while the robots dragged their companion to their own corner. He was once again pinned by enemy fire. He might like going it alone sometimes, but in situations like this it was annoying to do so.
