Chapter 197: Flaming Hammer

After he jumped the gladius disappeared turning into lighting before going back to his shoulder. He went right through the open window. The fighting had devolved to hand-to-hand combat.

Jace barely had to stand for a moment before a Welch without a friendly tag swung a barrage of attacks towards him. Jace used his arm to push aside the first set of attacks. Following it up by a punch into the enemy’s jaw. The attack jarred the Welch long enough that Jace was able to throw the enemy out the destroyed window without an issue.

It screamed as it flew out the window. He turned back to the rest of the enemies and took stock of the situation. It was not as bad as he initially thought. But there was a hole in the roof where he could see more enemies were located. They were just trying not to crowd the elevator.

He pulled the plasma shard sniper rifle off his back and aimed through the gap. He fired once and then twice. The first shot hit the enemy’s leg, and then the head when it fell. Going right through the armor and the armor’s shield.

Jace then moved to the side as another enemy attacked him with a sword it pulled from the sheath on its back. Jace kicked the Mar’talic in the side of the leg, breaking the leg at the knee. The Mar’talic screeched in pain but Jace aimed the rifle at its head and fired. It snapped to the side before the body fell to the ground.

While the plasma shard sniper rifle made a noise as the barrel section opened up and it began cooling. He held it to the side as another enemy dropped from the hole and came rushing right toward him.

Instead of dodging this time. He stepped forward drawing back his head. Then it snapped forward as he headbutted the enemy. It groaned as the enemy’s helmet cracked and then fell apart revealing the purple skinned creature underneath it.

Then before the enemy could react he grabbed the enemy by the armor plate and threw it out the window. He took the moment to look at the others and noticed they had started to finish their fights.

But before he could help them he heard the enemies on the roof begin firing their weapons. But they were not firing at Jace nor his new allies. Then he heard it. The sound of something metal breaking followed by the elevator jostling.

"Shit!" Jace cursed and put the plasma shard sniper rifle on his back just as he reached the window. He grabbed the upper seal of the window and used his momentum to flip up onto the roof. Which is how he confirmed his strong suspicion.

The enemy troops who had been backed into a corner had given up on taking the elevator or even surviving. Now they were shooting the supporting mechanisms that were moving the elevator up and down and kept it from falling.

There were only three of them left. So Jace ran towards the closest one. An Accer with at least two limbs that were metal prosthetic replacements. It turned around with its sidearm pulled.

Jace materialized the gladius in one hand while his other one pulled out his knife. He used the gladius to block the plasma shot from the sidearm. With his other arm he threw the knife. His arm moved like a whip as there was a loud crack followed by the knife penetrating the Accer’s chest.

Jace ran past the falling Accer’s body, pulling his knife from the body. His knife had a chip in it and had a spider web of cracks. He clicked his tongue as he arrived behind the next enemy, a Tacole with a large heavy duty weapon. It was firing a large burst of plasma which was burning through the metal of the elevator.

He swiped his sword through the Tacole’s torso and then spun and jumped decapitating the Tacole. The body did not fall apart until a moment later when the Tacole stopped firing its weapon. Which is when the last one, an Ola, realized that something was wrong.

The Ola barely turned its body when it was sliced diagonally by the gladius. As the last of the enemies on the roof fell apart he sheathed his knife and dematerialized the gladius. Once that was done he looked down at the hole and saw that his allies were finishing their fights. Unfortunately there were only two of them left. The Hydragentia and the Ola. The rest were dead or looked like they were dead.

He then heard the firing of thrusters and turned around to see several transport and attack craft flying over the city. "Well... damn." There was enough to overwhelm the occupants of the city. "General Plaze, please be honest, how bad does it look?" He used the direct channel to contact the Accer General.

"I apologize Spectre Jace, it is unlikely I will be able to send any support your way. As it stands I will have to pull back my forces to secure the few points that we are holding. I wish you the best of luck on your mission." The general answered honestly with what sounded like a sigh.

Jace clicked his tongue in annoyance and then noticed one of the transports near the front of the new wave of ships redirected toward them. It began firing towards the elevator as it flew toward them. Hitting the supports of the elevator and causing it to jostle and stop for a second.

Jace pulled the plasma shard sniper rifle off his back. He aimed at the transport’s guns. There were only two of them. He fired two shots in quick succession as the transport’s plasma bolts hit the plateau cliff face around him. Shards of rock and stone fell onto the elevator and around it.

But then the transport stopped firing as its weapons were destroyed. He watched the transport float in front of him in confusion for a moment before it spun around to its side. The side then opened up to reveal a Tacole with a giant hammer.

It was not nearly as big as Isaiah, nor did the hammer look the same. But he had a feeling the fight would be just as annoying as the Tacole jumped out and onto the roof of the elevator with its hammer.

Once the Tacole was off the transport the transport lowered down. Then a bunch of other enemy soldiers were jumping into the elevator cabin. This was bad. Really bad.

"Do you two think you can hold out for a moment?" Jace asked over the nearby communication channel.

"I doubt it. There were at least twenty in total and only five jumped aboard. We are good but even we will be overwhelmed by their numbers." The Hydragentia answered.

"Well if I can get rid of this Tacole, who I think is their commander. I can come and help you two." Jace informed them as he put the sniper rifle back on his back. The armor the enemy Tacole is wearing is the Elite armor he had been told about and had seen. It was a lot more difficult to get through.

"Does he have a hammer?" The Ola asked just as the Tacole waved the hammer up and down. The hammer was then covered in pure red flames.

"Yes." Jace answered and nodded his head at the same time.

"Did it light on fire?"

"Yes." Jace nodded and answered again.

"That is one of the personal guards for the Elder Council. The only other person with a weapon like that is Isaiah the Hammer. But he disappeared during the Sima Civil War. So I wish you the best of luck." The Ola informed him as he watched the Ola and Hydragentia both run in and initiated hand-to-hand combat with the enemies in the elevator cabin. They were both using some form of martial arts that he had never seen before.

The Ola’s technique seemed to favor attacking the legs of its enemies. While Hydragentia was clearly looking to break a few limbs with its technique.

But Jace was pulled out of his thoughts as the Tacole ran toward him with its flaming hammer. Instead of dodging or attacking. He raised his hands and the longsword appeared in his arms. He used the flat end to stop the attack while electricity arced off the sword.

But it failed to get through the enemy armor, nor was it able to channel through the enemy’s hammer. For some reason it seemed like the flames were stopping it. Jace could almost feel the Tacole grinning as it pushed forward.

Jace was not buckling but he could feel the roof of the elevator underneath him buckling. If he stayed like this it was only a matter of time before the ground went out from underneath him. If he dodged the attack or deflected it, the Tacole would damage the elevator beyond repair. He needed a different way to end this fight.
