Chapter 971: Edelweiss World

Edelweiss World was a low-level plane, governed by the laws of ice and a frigid environment.

This was the second interplanar war that Sein had participated in since setting off on his travels.

Though the battle in Edelweiss World was intense, it was fundamentally different from the Gumo Plane War that Sein had previously fought in.

In the Gumo Plane War, the Rank Five mage, Dark Flame, had clashed with three Rank Four native gods. It was a battle of equals, locked in a deadly stalemate.

Had the three native gods not attempted—but ultimately failed—to seal Dark Flame, the war might have dragged on for years, with no clear victor in sight.

In the case of the Gumo Plane War, both sides were actually desperately holding on.

It was not that the Rank Four and above creatures could not endure, but that the plane itself and the legions of lower-ranking beings were reaching their limits.

The situation in Edelweiss World, however, was the complete opposite.

Two years prior, the Rank Four creature of Edelweiss World had already been decisively defeated by Merilyn the Rank Four witch.

Had Merilyn not intended to subjugate the Rank Four native god, that creature would have been eliminated long ago.

Edelweiss World had only one Rank Four creature.

Yet, despite its defeat, the native creatures of Edelweiss World—the Edelweiss Spirits—refused to surrender.

The Edelweiss Spirits were small cryo-elemental beings that resembled little dolls, no more than half a meter tall.

They had three pairs of thin, crystalline wings on their backs.

No one could quite understand why these tiny creatures possessed such unyielding determination and unbreakable pride.

Before the invasion of Edelweiss World, Merilyn had actually intended to negotiate with these extraplanar beings.

Her plan was to extend an offer for them to join the Magus Alliance under relatively favorable conditions.

Unfortunately, Merilyn’s goodwill was met with rejection.

The Edelweiss Spirits’ temperament was eerily similar to that of the northern witches. They were just as xenophobic and had no desire to interact with outsiders.

Time and again, they refused Merilyn’s diplomatic overtures.

In the end, the formidable witch of the Northlands launched a full-scale invasion of Edelweiss World.

This was the cruel reality of a weaker world.

From the very beginning, the Edelweiss Spirits never truly had a choice.

Their unyielding pride and stubbornness had, in the end, cost them a chance to peacefully join the Magus Alliance.

The war was merciless—over two million Edelweiss Spirits and countless other native cryo elemental creatures had been completely eliminated within just a few short years of interplanar war.

Their essence dissipated into the atmosphere, returning to the purest form of ice and snow energy.

The population of Edelweiss Spirits had always been a severe disadvantage for their species.

Even before the war, the entire Edelweiss World had only a population of fewer than five million purebred Edelweiss Spirits.

For a low-level plane, having only five million dominant creatures was far too little.

Fortunately, Edelweiss World was home to various frost creatures and subspecies of elemental elves, but even so, the war had already cut the plane’s population nearly in half!

Yet, despite their staggering losses, the unyielding Edelweiss Spirits still refused to surrender.

Sein had barely arrived in Edelweiss World and experienced its frosty atmosphere before being immediately ordered to the frontlines.

Merilyn’s Little Coven did not issue communication devices similar to divine tower badges to Sein. Instead, he was only given a dark blue crystal ball.

With this crystal ball, he could accept combat missions, track his wartime earnings, and claim his rewards after the conflict.

Merilyn’s Little Coven was desperately short on spellcasters—but they had plenty of knights.

As soon as Sein arrived on Edelweiss World’s battlefield, he was immediately assigned command over hundreds of Rank One and Rank Two knights.

Sein was not the only one leading troops. Two witches, also headed toward the target location, had been assigned their own units, each commanding dozens of knights.

Both witches were strikingly beautiful.

Since arriving in the Northern Witches Council, Sein had yet to encounter an unattractive witch.

Their ages were impossible to determine by appearance alone, and Sein could only gauge their strength by observing their aura and life level.

Among the two witches traveling with him, the stronger Rank Two witch carried a more unapproachable aura, like a frozen monolith that could not be thawed.

Meanwhile, the other witch with flowing blue hair was noticeably weaker. Her promotion to Rank One was likely recent, perhaps within the past century.

Her azure eyes held a trace of longing and curiosity toward the unfamiliar.

She had probably never left the Northlands, making her fascination with the unknown and men almost inevitable.

She would frequently steal quiet glances at Sein, her curiosity toward both a man and a Rank Three grand mage barely concealed.

After arriving in Edelweiss World and stepping into battle mode, Sein summoned Yuri.

Having undergone Sky City’s extensive puppet modifications, Yuri’s combat prowess now rivaled that of a Rank Three being.

Her towering mecha, standing fifty meters tall, was an intimidating presence on the battlefield.

The strongest Rank Two knight’s mount—a giant Ice Saber-Toothed Tiger—was a formidable Rank Two beast. Even so, it was only half the size of Yuri’s mecha.

Despite having more than ten knights under her command, Veyle’s gaze repeatedly drifted toward Yuri’s mecha.

The curiosity of the Magus World spellcasters toward novelty was plain to see in the young witch.

Sein, in turn, was just as intrigued by these northern witches.

Unfortunately, now was not the time for them to exchange insights or trade.

The cold-looking Rank Two Witch had been keeping the younger witch in check.

This was Veyle’s first participation in an interplanar war and it was likely unplanned.

Despite being a registered witch of Merilyn’s Little Coven, a newly promoted witch like her would not have been sent to war unless the situation was truly dire.

Just as Sein was pondering how to extract valuable knowledge from the young witch, the situation changed abruptly.

The group had not yet reached the designated combat zone—yet the native creatures of Edelweiss World had already launched their attack!

Without warning, a ten-meter-tall cryo elemental giant burst from the snow-covered peaks and swung its massive fist straight at Veyle.

The young witch’s attention had been entirely fixated on Yuri and her towering mecha.

So when the attack came, she froze, completely forgetting to cast any spells.

This was a common mistake among knights and mages experiencing their first interplanar war.

Despite her power exceeding that of the average Rank One creature from a foreign plane, she was still a novice on the battlefield.

In every interplanar war, many mages and knights from the Magus World fell to creatures far weaker than themselves because they were either mentally unprepared, inexperienced, or simply unlucky.

Luckily, Veyle was surrounded by seasoned combatants.

Aside from Sein and the cold-looking Rank Two witch, even the knights in their company were hardened veterans.

“HAH!”

A battle cry rang out, and in an instant, about a dozen black-armored knights charged forward.

The sharp tips of their spears pierced the giant’s frozen fist, sending shards of ice into the air.

The temperature in the area plummeted several degrees.

The appearance of the ice giant was just the beginning.

Rumble!

The winds howled as the snowstorm intensified.

From the white abyss, the creatures of Edelweiss World emerged one after another, rushing straight for Sein and his group!
