Chapter 69: Kinetic Force

Commander Alexander’s voice rang out with sharp authority, slicing through the tension like a blade. His eyes scanned the soldiers along the wall, archers, clad in uniform armor, fingers twitching around their bows, breath held in anticipation. Without arrows nocked, one might have thought them defenseless, but they were anything but. These were Arcane Bowmen, trained to conjure spectral arrows of energy, lethal and precise.

"Hold position! On my mark!" the commander shouted again, his voice hoarse but commanding.

The thundering of feet beyond the wall was growing louder now, a monstrous rhythm of claw and muscle slamming the earth. As the swarm surged from the tree line, the sky seemed to darken. The beasts were fast, unnaturally so....and their low snarls and chittering cries carried over the walls.

"Loose!" The commander gave the order.

Dozens of bows were drawn, strings pulled tight with focused Qi, and as the archers released in unison, streaks of shimmering blue energy burst forth like a meteor shower. The arrows rained down, striking the first wave of beasts with explosive force. Limbs flew, bodies thudded into the ground, and blackened scorch marks spread like ink stains across the battlefield.

But it wasn’t enough.

The horde didn’t hesitate. The second wave trampled over the fallen, their claws gouging into the soil, unrelenting in speed or fury. They were getting closer...far too quickly.

Lucas stepped forward without hesitation, lifting one of the reserve bows from the rack and channeling his Qi into it. A faint glow surrounded him as he formed a radiant arrow, darker in hue, like fire and lightning fused together. He pulled back and fired.

The impact was devastating.

Where his arrow landed, a burst of kinetic energy erupted. Beasts were thrown high into the air, torn apart mid-flight, their bodies exploding like clay dolls under pressure. Ten at once...maybe more...obliterated in a blink.

Princess Nyx was beside him already, a bow in her own hands, eyes narrowed and calm despite the horror before them. Her arrows were swift and sharp, each one guided by years of discipline and power, each shot a clean kill. The two of them fired with purpose, shoulder to shoulder, matching each other in speed and intensity.

The archers around them began to find rhythm in their fear, their volleys steadier now, more focused. The swarm still advanced, but they were met with unrelenting resistance.

And yet, for all their efforts, the beasts did not slow. The wall shuddered beneath the sound of their charging mass.

As Lucas loosed another arrow from the high wall, he watched it scream through the air and burst upon impact, tearing through a tight cluster of beasts like thunder cracking through dry bark. The shockwave it left behind crushed several others that had been too close to the blast, leaving a wide, bloody gap in the swarm’s advancing line. But even as the bodies fell, more came...crawling over each other like frenzied ants, relentless and without fear.

He drew another arrow, took aim, and fired. The result was the same...an eruption of kinetic force and a swath of collapsed monsters. But as his keen eyes scanned the length of the wall, his expression slowly tightened. He saw arrows raining down from the other archers, but the effects was limited, only killing a beast per shot. At this rate..they would be overrun easily.

Only his arrows were creating devastation. The others? They were only delaying the inevitable

He lowered his bow slightly, eyes narrowed in thought, his breath steady even in the rising tension of the battlefield. Then he fired another. The blast obliterated a dozen beasts, dust rising like smoke in its wake. He didn’t miss it...how the tide faltered only when he struck.

Realization hit him hard, and not with pride, but urgency. If he was the only one causing real damage... they were going to be overrun unless he shared what he knew. He turned to Nyx, who was still firing arrows with fierce determination, her jaw clenched. He reached out and touched her arm.

"You’re not hitting hard enough," he said quickly. "It’s not just the aim. You have to channel kinetic energy plus your Qi into the draw, feel it pulse when you release...let it travel through the arrow."

She glanced at him, startled. "You’re infusing your arrows with kinetic energy?... what’s that?" She was confused

"It’s a force...a different kind of energy." Lucas didn’t have much time to explain....he quickly showed her how it’s done.

He gave pointers to Nyx on how to shoot like him, his tone calm but direct as he explained the precise method of infusing the kinetic energy into the string just before release, and how to guide the energy through the arrow mid-air for maximum impact. Nyx listened attentively, her brow furrowed in concentration as she mimicked his movements. It didn’t take long before her arrows began to shimmer faintly with energy and then detonate on impact, not as powerful as Lucas’s yet, but significant enough to deal considerable damage.

Seeing her catch on so quickly, Lucas decided to pass the knowledge to some of the elite archers nearby. He stood tall, commanding their attention without needing to shout, and demonstrated the stance and flow again, walking them through it step by step. A few archers were skeptical at first, but once the first of them tried it and watched his arrow erupt in a kinetic blast that tore through five beasts at once, the others quickly followed suit. Within minutes, a wave of destruction was being unleashed from the top of the wall. Their arrows, now supercharged with kinetic force, lit up the battlefield below with one devastating impact after another.

The shift in momentum was clear...where they had previously been pushing back the swarm, now they were decimating it. The rate of kills tripled, and the beasts began to stumble and pile over one another in their mad dash toward the wall. The pressure eased on the soldiers, and even some of the most battle-hardened ones were glancing at Lucas with expressions of newfound respect.

Commander Alexander, standing nearby with arms crossed and eyes sharp, had been watching all along. After another massive blast echoed through the air, he gave a slow nod, clearly impressed. His gruff voice cut through the sounds of battle, "That boy’s no ordinary cultivator."

Lucas, however, didn’t turn to bask in the praise. He simply kept shooting, his eyes locked on the endless swarm charging toward them like waves against rock.
