Chapter 83 - The hunt begin

The morning fog crept over the hills like a warning. Pale sunlight barely pierced through the thick gray clouds as the four of them stood before the entrance to the ruins of Eldemar — an ancient fortress lost to time and black magic. It was here their mother had traced Eira's essence. Here, they believed, the Devil himself waited.

Cain stood ahead, his flame-kissed coat fluttering in the wind, face unreadable. Leo's eyes glowed a steady blue, crackling occasionally with sparks as he adjusted the metallic cuffs on his wrists, each etched with runes of ancient origin. Eren, ever silent, summoned shadows at his feet, letting them curl like cats around his boots. Selene was just behind them, her fingers twined tightly, breath steadying — her powers quietly humming under her skin.

"Do you feel it?" Leo muttered. "This place is soaked in corruption."

Their mother, cloaked in a dark shawl, nodded. "He's close. And he knows we're here."

The gates creaked as they stepped in.

The ruins were silent — deathly so — until a faint whisper echoed through the air like wind through a broken harp. Selene paused, her head tilting. That voice. It wasn't the Devil's.

It was Eira.

"Go back... please."

Selene's heart twisted.

"Did you hear that?" she whispered, gripping Cain's sleeve.

"She's trying to resist him," Cain said, eyes narrowing. "She's still in there."

They followed the faint sound into the belly of the ruins. Black vines choked the walls, pulsing like veins. Eren reached out and touched one. It recoiled as if burned by his magic.

"She's not alone," Eren said darkly.

Suddenly, the floor shook. A screech — low and guttural — echoed from the shadows. A creature, twisted and born from nightmare, lunged from the dark corridors. Its body was made of ash and bone, eyes like molten coals.

Cain stepped forward. "Let me handle this."

With a roar, his flames exploded outward, forming a fiery arc as he leapt into the air. The beast screamed as Cain's flames devoured it. But another emerged. Then another.

Leo raised both hands, electric sparks now wild across his body. "Back to back!"

Eren's shadows danced and twisted, spearing through the monsters with deadly precision.

Selene unleashed her powers — light and energy surged from her palms, slicing through the thick darkness. But with each burst, her body weakened. Her breath grew labored. Her powers were not endless — and she'd already used so much.

"Selene!" Cain turned, his face pale as he caught her just before she fell.

"I'm fine," she whispered, but her body shook against his. "We have to find her."

"Not like this," he snapped, pulling her closer. "I told you, we're in this together."

"Then let's go get her," she said, weakly smiling.

As the last of the monsters turned to ash, the stone doors at the end of the corridor groaned open — on their own.

They stepped inside.

A throne sat at the far end of the room, carved of black obsidian, and on it sat the Devil. Their father.

His smile was cold. "My children... you've grown."

Beside him stood Eira. She was clad in obsidian armor, her once gentle eyes now silver, glowing unnaturally. A crown of twisted thorns rested upon her head.

Selene stepped forward. "Eira..."

Eira raised a hand.

With a flick of her fingers, Selene was thrown across the room, slamming into a pillar.

"Eira, no!" Cain shouted, flames leaping to his fists.

But Eira's expression didn't change. Not even a flicker of remorse.

"She is mine," the Devil said. "She chose me. I gave her power. I gave her peace."

"She died for us!" Eren growled, shadows thickening like a storm.

"You abandoned her," the Devil said calmly. "I picked up the pieces."

"Liar!" Leo screamed, lightning lashing from his body. "We loved her!"

Eira raised her hand again. Selene stood up, bloody, but steady. "If you kill me, do it looking me in the eye," she whispered.

Eira's hand trembled. Her lip quivered. For the first time — a crack.

"Selene..." she whispered.

Their father hissed. "Enough."

But Eira had already dropped her hand.

The room shook.

Light burst from Selene's chest, a radiant wave that pushed everyone — even the Devil — back. Her eyes glowed white as her body rose a few inches off the ground. Her true power — unlocked by heartbreak, love, and sheer desperation — erupted.

Cain caught her before she collapsed.

The Devil stood, adjusting his cloak. "So... the girl's awakening. Interesting."

He snapped his fingers.

The chamber began to crumble. "Let's see how long your bond holds when the truth comes out."

With a laugh, he vanished — and with him, Eira, gone in a swirl of shadow.

The ruins began to collapse.

"Go!" their mother yelled, casting a barrier to hold the stones back.

The siblings and Selene escaped just as the building crashed behind them.

Breathing hard, Cain looked around. "She hesitated. We can get her back."

Selene clutched her chest, the glow fading. "We will. Whatever it takes."
