Sold to the Capo-Chapter 55: A RASH DECISION OF DEATH
ADRIANA’S POV
I don’t know how long I was out again but I woke up to the sound of a groan.
My breathing became steady as I tried to open my eyes to see what was going on again when I felt someone tap my head.
Once.
Twice.
Then I jerked away, my vision still blurry as a whimper escaped my lips.
"Fuck..." I muttered trying to ignore the ache in my head.
"Adriana?" The voice of the man who had tied me up reached my ears but I didn’t struggle against the ropes or show any sign of compliance. I was fucking tired already; my throat felt dry, my eyes were heavy with exhaustion, and my limbs ached badly.
"Tesoro?" A very familiar voice cut through the haze, and my eyes immediately shot open to see Vincenzo on his knees in front of me, his hand tied behind his back, but there was no ounce of fear in his expression, just pure, unadulterated concern and worry.
"Vincenzo?" I asked weakly, my voice cracking.
He sighed heavily in relief and struggled against his restraints briefly. "Are you okay?" He asked instead, his eyes fixed on me rather than at the man who was circling the both of us like a predator would.
"I am. Are you?" I asked, looking him over with wide eyes. I couldn’t believe that he actually came. I had expected him to hear about it and not even bother or change his mind on the way, but here he was, trying to prove what? Tears filled my eyes, if anything happened to him because of my foolishness, I would never be able to forgive myself because of that.
"You don’t have to worry about me, Tesoro" He assured, his tone level before he looked at the man who was now standing right behind me.
I felt uncomfortable as the man towered over me as I couldn’t even see him, but I knew for some reason that the man wouldn’t kill me; he wasn’t after me, he was after Vincenzo, and somehow the thought of that scared me more than I was for my life.
"Let’s quit the chat, Julian... what do you want?" He asked the man who was standing behind me.
Julian hummed, stepping away from my chair as he removed his gun, pointing it at my head. As I felt the cold barrel press against my forehead, I flinched but I didn’t move an inch.
"What’s she worth to you?" Julian asked calmly, his finger lightly pressed against the trigger.
Vincenzo’s eyes widened and he bucked slightly, annoyance in his gaze. "Don’t. We settle this between ourselves"
"Why though? I had to watch you kill him" Julian growled, pressing the gun even tighter to my head, the cold metal digging into my skin.
"Then kill me instead!" Vincenzo yelled at him.
My eyes widened, the look in Vincenzo’s eyes was clear. He wasn’t kidding. He indeed wasn’t.
"No" I muttered as Julian removed the gun from my head, a satisfied grin on his face.
"That’s much better, Enzo.. you’re whipped, hm? Never thought I’d see the day you’d be willing to bat an eye for someone’s life" Julian hummed, pointing the gun to Vincenzo instead.
"No, please don’t...." I pleaded, tears dripping from my eyes, a scream tearing past my lips as I heard the gun go off.
My eyes shut on instinct at the sound of the recoil, and when I opened my eyes, I saw Vincenzo staring down at his stomach, blood pooling already, soaking his clothes, but he didn’t flinch; he grimaced slightly, his face paling, but he didn’t scream or show any other sign of pain.
"No!" I screamed, my heart pounding. He would die, he would die because of me. Shit. No.
Vincenzo, however, just threw his head back and chuckled, the sound coming out strained though. "A gunshot wound?" He looked down at his stomach again, his eye twitching.
Julian scoffed and pocketed the gun. "Freak. I should have known you wouldn’t react to it. Being shot by your father several times until you could take the pain really paid off, hm?" He said as he looked at the watch on his wrist.
I was still breathing heavily, but my eyes narrowed on Vincenzo, who was avoiding my gaze pointedly. Why wouldn’t he look at me? He was staring at Julian who was frowning at his watch.
"10 more minutes and your wife is dust," He announced, and I suddenly remembered that I was strapped to a freaking bomb.
Vincenzo’s eyes darted to me, fear fleeting In his gaze before he bit down on his lip. He would opt out; he was far more important than I was, and I didn’t mean anything to him. I wouldn’t blame him; I had caused all this. He didn’t deserve to be hurt because of me; however, he said something that shocked me instead. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"I’ll take her place" He muttered under his breath, determination in his tone.
"What?" My eyes widened and I struggled against the ropes. "No, Vincenzo. Just go" I pleaded, tears threatening to drop from my eyes.
Vincenzo ignored me, much to my dismay, though, his attention solely on Julian. "Let her go and let me take her place"
"That’s more like it. Say please" Julian sneered.
"Mother fucker!" I thrashed about in the chair but Julian just cast me a bored look. He was not concerned with me; Vincenzo was his target, and here he was, giving himself out to the enemy.
"You know I would rather die than say that to you" Vincenzo spat.
Julian frowned at his words. "Bastard. We have 8 more minutes. I will strap you to this chair, and I will let her go back to the mansion. Win for everyone. You get your woman, I get my revenge. Do we have a deal? You won’t find me after this, Adriana; I assure you, no one will," The man said with a mocking tone.
Blood had begun to drip to the floor from the gunshot wound, and I followed each drop, my eyes stained with tears as Vincenzo nodded, agreeing with what the psychopath had said.
"Please..." I whispered as I saw Julian hum to himself, removing an injection from a drawer before coming to me, a maniacal smile on his lips.
No... I glanced one more time at Vincenzo whose eyes were wide with worry. Not for himself. Me.
Then I felt the sharp prick of the needle at my neck and my vision became hazy.
Not again.
