Chapter 132: NO ONE SEES HIM

ADRIANA’S POV

Two days later, I was already back in the LaRosa’s mansion and I was in Vincenzo’s study, looking over the reports as the family was trying to get everything back to normal after everything.

There was a knock on the door and Valentina poked her head inside, a small smile on her face which mirrored mine.

Finally, someone to talk to.

"You’re back early" I pushed myself off the chair and smiled at her as she furrowed her brows in worry.

"You shouldn’t be standing because of me. Sit down, Adriana. Master LaRosa would put a bullet through me if he saw you stressed because of me" She chided but I rolled my eyes.

I knew the risks attuned with stress now in my condition after several visits to the hospital every two hours courtesy of Micheal and Master LaRosa who behaved like I would die if I didn’t see the doctor.

Micheal was concerned because of me and knowing that this was just an extra toll on me but Master LaRosa? I believe the man was just after the baby’s health because Vincenzo was in the same state and he would never want to make someone who wasn’t Vincenzo’s child Capo...

"Are you even listening?" Val asked, sitting on the chair opposite me, her brows furrowed and I snapped out of it with a slight jerk, an apologetic smile crawling up my lips instantly.

"Oh sorry. Also, you don’t need to lecture me but sitting around all day isn’t good for my baby also. I need to have some time to work out or something"

"We could go for a walk in the evening again" she suggested.

I hummed in response. "That sounds great to me. Need some air anyways"

She looked me over, bitting back a smile. "You’re doing a great job"

I pulled a stack of papers to myself and looked up at her with a blank look on my face. "You mean I’m doing a great job but sitting in my husband’s office all day and simply going through his works and receiving reports"

She nodded. "Indeed you are. Also I come with news"

I was barely paying attention, I was more focused on the list of weapons the family would need and I was thinking of how to work the shipment. Maybe Amelia, she was still under the family after all and this was what she specialized in, maybe sㅡ

"Vincenzo moved" I heard her say and I froze. Just froze. My pen hovering over the paper and my heart thudding in my chest. He what?

I looked up at her in alarm and she grinned at me, clearly liking my reaction. "He moved a finger today and he groaned. The doctor said he’s recovering and he should..."

I wasn’t even listening again, I buried my face in my hands and broke down, my body wracking with sobs. He would live. Vincenzo would love.

Suddenly, I felt her strong hand on my shoulder, rubbing soothing circles into my skin. "Adriana..."

Sniffling, I looked up at her, my eyes red and hopeful. "You think he’ll wake up?" I sniffed, the tears streaming down my face no matter how much I tried to stop them.

She smiled softly. "I know he will. He’s a fighter. What I don’t know is if he’ll be...okay" She smiled sadly, not explaining what she meant but I knew.

The thought instantly made my happy mood deflate and almost instinctively as I found myself doing lately, I wrapped a hand around my stomach protectively. We didn’t know if he’d be fine mentally. We didn’t know if he would remember any of us. We didn’t know if he’d...

I shut those thoughts out. Nope. I couldn’t think about that now or I’d start hyperventilating and launch myself into a panic attack of some sorts.

"He’ll be fine. I’ll visit the hospital today" I wiped my eyes again and avoided her piercing gaze.

"Actually you can’t. Master LaRosa’s orders" She dropped the bombshell and I looked at her in shock.

"What?" I whispered, my eyes wide as I dropped my pen back on the table.

"He said no one is allowed into the ward for now until we’re sure he’s fine"

Anger brewed in my veins. "He can’t do that. I’m his wife and I’m in charge until Vincenzo’s awake" I reminded her, trying to make my stand.

She tipped her head back and shook her head slightly. "Oh he knows. He’s doing it for a good reason and if I were you, I’d steer clear, he’s been in a fit after finding out that Vincenzo is likely to recover and he doesn’t want anyone near the ward except the doctor and the best nurse to aid his quick recovery"

I cooled slightly at that and nodded, understanding the man’s point. "Okay...okay... I uh..."

"Don Luca wants to see you" She said again. "Evening. Said to tell you he’s coming over"

Don Luca. The man who had wanted to make a deal with us concerning the legder.

The legder.

"Plans still in place to get the legder back?" I asked her.

She nodded. "Master LaRosa is already doing that alongside Don Micheal. Which reminds me..." she leaned in closer as though she wanted to share a secret. "You’re staying in the LaRosa house and I’m guessing it’s for Vincenzo but what happens to your father? You know he has an empire and it’s not in Sicily and the reason he came back was to get you..."

This was not the type of conversation I wanted to be having. I had thought about it severally, wondered what I’d tell Michael when the time came but not now... I would worry about that later.

"I’ll handle that later. I should go take my drugs now" I quickly changed the subject and she nodded, standing up to leave.

Before she could open her mouth to say something else, the door was pushed open and I froze, seeing the person who was on the other sideㅡ Master LaRosa.

Valentina looked back and equally froze, clearly not expecting the man to be at the house so early. I thought he was at the hospital.

"Master LaRosa" Valentina bowed stiffly, her tone changed now.

I stood upright, my gaze fixed on the man, waiting for him to state his business and I used the opportunity to look him over. His usually cold eyes were filled with fear and worry and he looked slightly haggard which was a surprising thing for a man that always liked to be unruffled.

"Valentina. Salvatore has been asking for you. We just got back from the hospital now. I would like some alone time with...her" He fixed his gaze on me.

Valentina shot me a look and looked hesitant but she nodded. "Yes sir" Then she walked out, giving me one last look before she shut the door behind her.

"Master LaRosa. I just heard Valentina’s reports about what happened at the hospital earlier" I said, sitting back down and not even bothering to offer him a seat because I knew he would take one either ways and just as expected, he lowered himself down on a chair in front of me, pulling out a clean piece of cloth to wipe his face.

"Ah yes... have you taken your medicine?" He asked.

Concerned about my health now, were we?

"Actually no, I was about to take them when you walked in" I told him.

He nodded. "Ah, that’s okay. I shouldn’t be the one to hinder you from doing that. Go ahead and take your medicine" He suggested, leaning back against the seat.

My eyes narrowed at him. "What do you want?" I asked, going straight to the point. "I heard I’m not allowed to visit my husband even in the hospital because of your orders" I raised my chin.

There was a tense silence. "Indeed. However you can see him. I’m merely worried for the safety for the Don hence my orders not to let anyone else in except the doctor and the nurse but I trust you with my son just as Micheal trusts my son with you" He explained.

I hummed in response. "So why are you here?"

Master LaRosa leaned back slightly, rubbing his temple as if the weight of everything was finally catching up to him. His gaze softened—not in warmth, but in understanding.

"I wanted to tell you something about the child," he said, his tone measured.

I instinctively placed a hand on my stomach, a habit I had developed without realizing it. "What about the baby?"

He hesitated for a fraction of a second before exhaling. "I spoke with the doctor."

I stiffened. "Is something wrong?"

"No, nothing is wrong," he assured me quickly. "But he mentioned that, in a few months, you’ll be able to find out the gender if you wish to."

Of course I knew that.

Master LaRosa studied me for a moment before adding, "It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s a boy or a girl. What matters is that the baby is healthy... and that you are, too."

I frowned slightly, thrown off by the words. "That’s... unexpected coming from you."

He let out a small breath, almost amused. "I’m old, Adriana. I’ve seen a lot. And if there’s one thing I know, it’s that family is unpredictable. Bloodlines don’t always define strength—character does."

For a moment, silence stretched between us. Then he stood, adjusting his suit. "When the time comes, I assume you’ll want to know?"

I hesitated before nodding. "Yes. I will."

He nodded in return. "Good. You should come to the hospital later in the evening for your checkup."

With that, he turned and walked toward the door, pausing only briefly before looking over his shoulder.

"And if Vincenzo were awake," he added quietly, "I think he’d be just as eager to know as you." Then he was gone.
