Chapter 120: HE’S HERE

ADRIANA’S POV

I stared long at the box, my phone still in my hands and Vincenzo still on the line.

"Okay, just stay there, yeah?" His voice came through the speakers sounding concerned.

I closed the safe back and stood up, nodding even though he couldn’t see me. "Okay, how’s it going now?" I asked.

He hesitated and then after a while he spoke up. "Pretty bad, I guess. According to our location of Hale, it’s seeming that he is going really far away from Lucien’s hideout. We’re still following him and I’m trying to reach out to Hale but he’s not picking up" He informed.

I paused, a chilling sensation running down my spine. "Should I contact him?" I asked.

He paused then let out a low hum before I heard him say something muffled to someone in the background that sounded like "Yeah take a right, stay back, off lane, call Justin, tell them to stay back, follow the other route... No ... Not that one..." He paused and he spoke up again. "Yeah, Tesoro, you still there?" He asked, the sound of whoever he was talking to replying to him in the background reaching me and while I couldn’t hear what the person was saying, I knew it was something along the lines of "got it"

"Yeah I’m still here" I informed him, sitting back against the bed, my weight making the bed creak.

"Okay, just stay there. Don’t go to the house now, call me if anything happens so I can know how you’re faring, okay? I’ll call you back later, okay?" He said, his tone sounding concerned.

I briefly looked around the room, my gaze resting on the door. It was locked. I wasn’t expecting someone so I was safe here. "Okay, I’ll be right here, please keep me in touch and I’ll keep trying to get in touch with Hale to know where he is" I informed him.

There was a slight pause like someone was talking to him but he sounded like he was more adamant on talking to me instead. "I have to go now, okay? I love you" He whispered into the phone then he hung up.

I still had the phone to my ear for seconds after he had ended the call and my heart ached in my chest. It felt like I was putting him in danger and a part of me detested that. My guts were telling me that something was about to happen but I didn’t know what.

Oh right. I had work to do. I stood up and peeped through the peephole of the door, nodding to myself that there was no one around the hallway before I went back to sit at the bed, pulling out my phone to call Hale.

As I dialled his number, I put the phone to my ear, the cold metal of the phone feeling weird against my skin but what was even weirder was that he wasn’t picking.

I frowned, putting the phone down as I stared into blank space. What was happening now?

Suddenly, I remembered that I actually could get the GPS app that would help me locate Hale’s car. Not technically his car since it belonged to the owner of the casino and he had probably borrowed it from him so he could go after Grace and Henry.

Immediately I stood up and left the room, my destination in mind already. I had to meet with the owner of the club, the problem was that I wasn’t sure if they would let me in the VIP section. I had never tried it.

Well, we were about to find out now.

With determination brewing in my mind, I left the room and made my way into the casino, ignoring the stares and the people who were staring at me. Most of the gazes weren’t hostile but some of them were and while I should be worried that they would try to harm me, I knew they wouldn’t try it.

The men stationed at the edges of the casino had an eye on me and a part of me knew that they were there to protect me, probably from Vincenzo’s orders to the casino. Once more, Vincenzo never failed to amaze me by how he planned little things.

As I reached the back door, the guard standing in front of it looked me down, a frown on his face. "Yes ma’am?" He wasn’t rude, just curious as he stared me down.

"I need to see the boss," I said, keeping my tone steady as I stared at him.

He didn’t immediately respond. Instead, his eyes darkened slightly, and he shifted his stance. "The boss isn’t to be disturbed." He said firmly and the sound was enough to get me thinking deeply.

I bit back a sigh. Of course, it wasn’t going to be that easy. "It’s important," I pressed.

"The boss is busy," he repeated, this time more firmly. "Come back later, ma’am."

I narrowed my eyes. "Look, I don’t have time for this. Either you let me in, or I make a call, and then you’re the one explaining to Vincenzo why you denied me entry."

If I was in need of something, all I had to do was play the wife card and I knew I would get it. I didn’t like it but what needed to be done has to be done and right now, I needed to get the location of that thing and I needed to know where he was.

The guard’s jaw twitched. He knew I had a point. After a long moment, he exhaled sharply and reached for the door handle. "Fine. But if he throws you out, that’s on you."

"Noted." I said dryly.

He stepped aside, pushing the door open. I walked past him into the dimly lit room, my eyes adjusting to the soft glow of neon lights illuminating multiple screens against the far wall. And there, lounging on a sleek black couch, was the boss—his arms draped lazily over the shoulders of a girl perched on his lap.

She giggled, pressing a kiss to his jaw, while he smirked at the screens, seemingly enjoying whatever he was watching.

I cleared my throat. "Busy, I see."

I hadn’t really had a chance of meeting the man considering how he seemed to spend all of his day in his private room and now I was looking at one of reasons he probably didn’t want to come out.

The man lifted his gaze lazily before his lips curved into an amused smirk. "Ah, if it isn’t Mrs. LaRosa herself." His voice was smooth, playful, but I could hear the curiosity underneath. He shifted slightly, causing the girl in his lap to pout. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"I need access to the GPS system," I said bluntly, not bothering to look at the girl a second time. She clearly didn’t know who I was but she seemed really pissy at me.

His brow arched. "And what makes you think I’ll just hand that over?"

"Because I’m not asking for a favor," I shot back. "One of my men took a vehicle linked to your casino. I need to track it."

He exhaled dramatically before giving the girl a pat on the thigh. "Go."

She huffed but climbed off his lap, smoothing her dress before sauntering out of the room. Once the door clicked shut, he turned back to me.

"You’re serious about this." He noted, looking me over, his dark eyes brightening slightly

"Would I be here if I wasn’t?"

He chuckled, standing up and making his way to the screens. "Fair enough." He tapped a few keys, and the screen flickered to display a map with small blinking dots. "I like having eyes on everything in my casino," he mused while scrolling through stuff but me trying to keep up. "You never know who might try to pull something."

I watched as he zoomed in, locating the specific vehicle in question. My stomach twisted when I saw the dot wasn’t moving.

"He’s stopped," I muttered.

The boss hummed in agreement. "That’s not good. Either he parked, or something happened."

I clenched my jaw. Hale wouldn’t have just stopped unless—

A sudden knock at the door made us both turn.

Don Stephen frowned. "No one knocks here."

A weird sensation crawled up my spine as I watched him move toward the door. I stayed by the screens, my eyes flicking back to the unmoving GPS marker.

Muffled voices—agitated, urgent at the door while I stared at the door.

Then— My name.

A voice I hadn’t heard in what felt like so long, yet one I could never forget.

I turned sharply, my heart slamming against my ribs. The door cracked open, and the moment I saw his face, the air left my lungs.

My lips parted, a whisper escaping before I could even think.

"Michael?"

And then he smirked.

"Hello, Adriana."
