Chapter 1333: Chapter 88 : The Moon’s Pull

*Noah*

Zara’s question was a very important one, and I found myself lapsing into thought. I leaned back against the chair I was sitting in letting out a hum.

“With how the mystical effects of the full moon cause us to go a little bit crazy, we should avoid contact as much as possible,” I said.

She nodded. “Definitely. We can’t miss it. We need to honor the Moon Goddess and our traditions.”

“That, and we need to maintain pack confidence in our future leadership. So... this will be difficult, beautiful.” I winked at her, causing her to blush and chuckle.

She sighed. “Your charming nature is definitely not helpful right now. But really, what do you think we can do to distract ourselves?”

“Well. I can try to occupy myself by talking with family. I’ll send over some people to ask about the baby, and how things have been going. They can meet you and keep your mind off me.”

“Alright, that sounds like a good plan. Hopefully things will be busy.” Her eyes glimmered with worry. “I... I don’t want our relationship impacted by this memory loss thing again.”’

“Me neither,” I assured her. “So, the plan is you stick close to the matriarchal female pack Elders who will doubtlessly bombard you with questions. Meanwhile, I’ll stay away as much as I can.”

“Make sure to drink as little alcohol as possible.”

“Excellent idea, yes,” I agreed. “I’ll limit that or just not drink at all.”

With that plan set in stone and emphasized up until the ball itself, we were ready to handle this exceptionally hard task of not giving into our urges.

The music flowed around us as the full moon shone brightly above, casting a shadow of dread on me. I cursed myself inwardly. I should be happy about the moon, I thought, to honor it.

Instead, there it was, a danger. My wolf tugged and pulled at me every single time my eyes fell upon Zara. Getting through the initial formal pack photographs was a challenge.

My beautiful mate stood next to me for it, which made matters all the worse. I kept in a groan at the stronger pulls, my wolf going ravenous beneath me.

Sitting down across from Zara, I looked up to see Angelica coming over to sit next to me. I gave her a light smile, though found it difficult to tear my eyes away from my love.

“This is going well. How’ve you been?” she asked.

“Well, things have been looking up. Briella is a healthy, beautiful little girl, so full of life.”

“Yeah, she is adorable. Looking to spend some time with Zara tonight?” she said, raising her eyebrows. “You haven’t taken your eyes off of her.”

“Mm, maybe after the ball. I don’t want everyone to wish they spoke with us after missing a chance, or something.”

It wasn’t the real reason, but a good one.

Angelica chuckled. “Well, the dance is up soon, so you’ll get more time with her yet. Enjoy yourself. The moon is beautiful and strong tonight.”

With that, she wandered off into the crowd. Several other members of the pack and visitors stopped in to visit and chat with me, and I updated them on how Briella was doing and the pack in general.

Soon, it was indeed time to dance, and I found myself next to Zara, staring into her gorgeous emerald eyes. The pull to her was ever stronger, that primal urge relentless.

My wolfish urges within me were rising to a dangerous degree, and I saw a glint in Zara’s eyes of sheer lust. Shit, she was having a hard time too.

My wolf wanted me to drag her off and claim her immediately. It was so damn hard to focus, especially at her breathless, “Hi,” the tone laced with lust.

“Hi, beautiful. May I have this dance?”

“You may.”

At every single step, every turn, every dig, the sensations intensified, clawing and gnawing at me to claim her. I needed her right now, needed to be inside of her as soon as possible.

I resisted the urge to growl as we twirled, and upon the conclusion of the song, I bent down and pressed my lips against hers. She groaned into my mouth, causing my heart to pound.

I was losing control, fast.

Over and over, I needed to remind myself about just how dangerous it would be to give into these urges. The tug of the moon would be the downfall of my memories.

I couldn’t lose them again.

It took everything in me to pull away from her when the kiss ended, and I panted, getting lost in her eyes for a moment.

She whispered, “Thank you for the dance. It was enchanting.”

“Understatement,” I said in a low, lustful growl, causing her to shudder. Shit, we needed to get away from each other, and now.

Thankfully, we barely managed to pull away, returning to opposite sides of the ball. She continued to speak with the matriarchs in the pack, while I took a seat to compose myself.

Matters didn’t get better when I made my rounds, greeting everyone and exchanging kind words with pack members. I could barely catch most of what was said.

“Noah! It’s so good to see you happy.”

“You’ve been working so hard lately, Future Alpha.”

“The naming ceremony was a magical night. Briella is so cute!”

“Honoring the Moon Goddess like this makes me feel so warm.”

During my discussions with my fellow pack members, I inadvertently caught sight of Zara across the room. Her elegant ballgown revealed flashes of her bare neck and shoulders.

I was entirely ravenous, almost losing control once again. My breathing began to quicken and grew much heavier at just that tiny glimpse.

The moon was reaching its peak, and the tension was spiraling, growing tighter and tighter while I became harder and harder.

I caught Zara fanning herself frequently, too. The desire rushed through her veins, and I knew it.

Shit. She wanted me, I wanted her. This was nearly impossible.

Catching Noah’s eyes made matters all the worse, and the flush that was intensifying on me had very little to do with the heat.

I barely paid attention to the matriarchs I was supposed to be talking with, yet I tried my hardest to do so despite being so distracted by Noah and these powerful urges.

“You have been doing well with your studies. It is important to be an attentive Luna.”

“I am relieved the signs of you doing so well are putting away any doubts.”

“Now, the work isn’t done yet, but—”

They drawled on, and I really wanted to be the best Luna I could be, to get advice, and everything else, but I really needed Noah, and I really needed him right now.

I couldn’t help but cast a glance over at Noah, watching him mingling confidently among our pack members. My heart fluttered, realizing just how struck I was by him.

He was so gorgeous and strong, so attentive with our fellows. My heart dripped with love and need for him, and my wolf tugged at me to go closer so that he could claim me.

The intensity of my hunger for him was so hard to resist. I wanted to run my hands over every inch of his rippling muscles. They were so enticingly restrained beneath that refined and tailored tuxedo.

My eyes undressed him. I couldn’t help it. I wanted him to pin me down and take me slowly and lovingly, with the confidence he had so many times before.

As if sensing my stare, Noah looked up from his current conversation and met my gaze. The tension in the air crackled even further, and I had to let out a breath. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

This was so difficult. I wanted to gesture at him to come over, to finally accept that we needed each other right here, right now.

But that would endanger our relationship.

I wanted him so badly, and he wanted me, but we couldn’t risk it, no matter how relentless our wolfish instincts grew.

His pants were tight, and all I could think about was him stretching me as I cried out and basked in his scent.

No, no... I needed to keep my head clear.

I exhaled, looking up to see one of the matriarchs eyeing me curiously. “Distracted, dear?” she asked softly.

I chuckled and nodded, blush intensifying on my cheeks. “A little,” I replied.

“How cute. Do you want to go spend time with Noah right now?”

Yes. Yes, I did. I needed to spend time with Noah right now... and more.

But I shook my head. “No,” I said softly, trying my hardest to resist the pull. “I think it’s important to keep talking with everyone here. We’ve been in a really good discussion, after all.”

The night just stretched on and on, feeling so much longer than it actually was. It was complete, exquisite torture to resist the pull of our profound bond.

But somehow, we did it.

At the end of the night, I was in Noah’s arms, held close to him as he whispered into my ear, “Thank you. Thank you for showing so much restraint. It was difficult.”

“It was. You did well too, Noah. Thank the Goddess that the moon is no longer at its peak. I think we are in the clear.”

“We are. Now... I can emerge in the morning with all my memories, with everything, with us, no holes, no frustrations.”

“Yes, you can. Thank the Goddess,” I breathed.

We took some time to make sure the peak of the full moon was truly, safely behind us before approaching each other again.

I placed my hand on Noah’s cheek, cupping it, as he stared lovingly into my eyes with his blazing blue. We weren’t silent for long.

“How about we have our own private ‘ceremony’ together in the privacy of our bed chamber,” he suggested in a sultry tone. “After all... there’s a lot to celebrate.”

My eyes widened, and enthusiasm flowed through me. My smile stretched, and I said in a flirtatious tone right back, “You keep your memories, and I get all of you. Win-win, handsome.”

“Mm... fuck, you’re so beautiful, Zara. I need you now, right now.”

“Well then, we’d better get moving, because I need you too.”
